Saaaame. I can understand them not wanting to have a baby on set all the time (bet it was expensive too) but I def wanted more adorable family scenes. And if they did age him up, I wish it had been done a different way than the Holtz storyline and awful writing for adult Connor.

Ugh.
We had a citywide internet outage all day today (Wed Oct 21) for some server update and it just came back on about half an hour ago.

Although I'm usually hardcore with quoting, all those amazing caps--I can't do it.

Angel: "I'd call me, wouldn't you?"
Cordy's face: Hell yeah I would!

Since our 'Provider' watch party, my favorite line in the episode is: "I shouldn't have left you and the baby alone like that."
Anyone who caught that moment with no knowledge of the rest of the franchise would have assumed Cordy was Connor's mother.

She was such a natural with Connor that I've wondered if perhaps she did some babysitting on the side while she worked at the dress shop in BtVS s3 for extra money.

Besides the issues Straws mentioned with using an infant onset, it couldn't have lasted plotwise. Connor would have become distracting and pointless but I concur that I'd have loved if the CA parenthood had been drawn out a bit more. It was just too precious.
I also have a guilty pleasure for fanfics that have the Scoobies react to CA as parents.

That was mine too. It has to be one of the most 'big husband energy' things Angel has ever said.

Do you have any fics like that you can recommend off the top of your head? There's one I really like with A & C getting into a food fight and The Scoobies walking in on them, but I can't remember the author right now.

It is and for me, another one that has stuck with me despite that I've never re-watched post-WITW season 3 and never will was when Connor was kidnapped. Fred had suggested that Angel call Cordy on her stupid vacation and Angel refuses, snapping at her something to the effect of:

"Cordy will be back soon, with gifts for Connor and he's going to be here so she can give them to him!"

(I'd look it up because I prefer accurate quoting to paraphrasing but don't recall the exact episode.)

That came across as a very spousal thing to say, as though he wanted to protect a mother from the pain of losing her child.

I can picture teenage Cordy burning food, getting grossed out having to clean up spills or PTB forbid having to change a diaper and at the end of the night having to bribe the kids to sit quietly or go to bed.
I hate to find it amusing because it's very Xander but yeah, I do.

Of the Scoobies and Connor trope specifically?

There's the one I mentioned on Discord:
Seperate Hearts by Becjane.
Angel has Cordelia and Connor go into hiding from W&H at the Summers' home under the protection of the Scoobies.
It's extremely well written and while angsty, CA/Baby!Connor is ultimately fluffy and sweet.
As I mentioned on Discord, her Buffy reaction to Connor is spot on with Buffy's line in 'Halloween' about preferring vampires to taking kids trick-or-treating.

I believe Wavelengths by Lysa might be considerable although CA's parenthood isn't so much at the forefront.
It's a fusion of sorts of Connor's kidnapping and the BtVS episode 'Gone' in which Cordelia and Connor are both kidnapped and Angel finds he must enlist the Scoobies' help to find them.
Even if it doesn't quite fit this particular trope it's still an excellent fic.

The last one I have on hand (because I'm grabbing from my rec list) is Prophecy Boy by wereleapard58.
The writing isn't great. It's a time travel fic with a rather badly inconsistent BtVS timeline but the overall plot is well-conceived and the tropes were portrayed well.

The way he's looking at her here is cracking me up. He has no idea what to make of her lack of tact.

Looks like he got his wish.


Cordy and Angel working together to help the (helpless) Buffy. They had no idea how soon working together for them would be second nature.



Xander: (shakes his head). Give it up, Cordy. You're never gonna get between those two.

And thus begins why Cordy was so oblivious/in denial of her feelings and Angel's in ATS S3.

I've seriously read all the best parts of that thing at least 4 times. Hehe.

Admittedly he did look kind of ' Ugh, stake me' at the very beginning.

Which reminds me of much the same expression on his face while he watched Cordy's performance as Nora in 'A Doll's House' in 'Eternity' (I can't imagine her stooping so low but I also can't imagine how she got that role without sleeping with someone).



Despite my admittedly bad memory of BtVS, I'm quite certain that this was the most comfortable he'd ever been with another person in that series including Buffy.
DB might have gone off-script because he couldn't manage to look "uncomfortable and disgusted" but I actually think the "unmad" reaction fit better. Cordy treated him like a person rather than like a parolee even if it was out of ignorance and talked to him about cars, how could he not be interested?! Additionally, we got Jealous!Buffy which was awesome. Sorry, that sounds kind of evil but it was.

A lot of folks, including CAers argue that in BtVS Cordy was only interested in Angel as a trump card over Buffy which I agree is true but I feel there was real interest there as well and the way she looks at him here, with this super cute genuinely smitten expression supports that.
I mean just look at the guy!

He's like: "Is this girl for real?" and I think inside, he's totally loving it.

Wow. I did not recall the context of that line, that she wanted to celebrate Angel's birthday. Though I wouldn't be surprised if Angel doesn't remember his birthday. 200 years of it not mattering would do that.

Reminds me of a fic I read in which Cordy throws Angel a huge birthday party and even invites the Scoobies but of course danger is just around the corner.

The plot is really well done and has a unique and well-developed villain.

I feel there has to be some form of unintended foreshadow or symbolism in the fact that CA are the only ones not affected by Ethan's spell because Angel doesn't do Halloween and Cordy just happened to be the one person to not purchase a costume from Ethan.

Ugh. I concur, I blame Xander for a lot of her insecurity in her relationship with Angel, and for her fear of Karma because the ass just had to constantly throw cracks at her about it.

ex. SAR:

Cordy: "Why do terrible things keep happening to me"
Xander: *fake cough*Karma*fake Cough*

True, but I think Angel would've looked like that no matter who tried to sit with him due to his antisocial tendencies lol. But I don't think he would've smiled like that and loosened up for just anyone. Her power.

Haha. I love how tortured Wes and Angel look while watching that.

I don't think she slept with anyone for the role, but the casting director/someone important in the play must've had a huge crush on her and been willing to overlook her, uh, lack of suitability for the part.

I get a kick out of Buffy being jealous of CA, too, and I love her with my whole heart so oops lol.

Buffy wouldn't have been jealous if she didn't sense something there between CA. Or at least, that's what I'm going to believe.

There's just so much unintentional foreshadowing in the ep, Buffy's jealousy included.

Also Willow's "Angel will never fall for her act". Cut to S3 when Angel has, in fact, 'fallen for her act'. Buffy was right to worry.

Re: Cordy treating him like a person. It's probably because I read too much fic, but I like to believe he was a little disappointed when he realized she hadn't known he was a vampire and backed off once she truly found out.

Hmm. I wouldn't say she was only interested in him to get one over on Buffy. Cordy shows immediate attraction to him upon first seeing him and that is before she knows about his connection to Buffy at all.

It's highly possible her continued pursuit was partially due to her and Buffy's rivalry, but I also think she genuinely thought he was a hottie and wanted some Angel smoochies lol.

Oh, I love that. There is a certain symbolism there about only the two characters destined to go off and be leads on their own show not being affected. A power duo from the beginning haha.

Lorne's "It's fate. It's the stars" comes to mind.

I love waxing poetic about these two in here. No other ship makes me gush this much haha.
