I really like how he took care of Faith.

He genuinely cared for her and wanted to be the father in her life.

That scene with her in the dress. That was so sweet!

There isn't one... But there should be one.

He was a horrible father figure. He may have tried to instill a little self-respect and manners onto her, but he nutured her dark side. He got her to kill innocent humans for him. He encouraged her to do evil things and to hurt the people that could have helped her become a better person. She was going to be at his side when he became a giant demon and ate thousands of innocent people.

I agree that he did really care for her like a father. But it was NOT in a healthy father/daughter way. Not in the Giles cares for Buffy way. If he really wanted what was best for her he wouldn't have helped stain her hands with blood.

... you have a point...

When I say he was a good father figure I look at the self-respect nurturing part and the affection he showered on her along with the love. Yeah he was a bad guy, but I don't think he ever thought he was doing her wrong...

I agree that she needed that unconditional love and attention but I think it really hurt her progress to get that emotional support from someone that was unabashedly evil. Would he still love her if she didn't have that darkness in her? If she didn't want to hurt innocent people for him? Soulless Spike was able to take joy in Buffy's darkness but ultimately loved her for her goodness but I'm not sure that was the case with Mayor Richard Wilkins. He turned her into his Assasin for Hire. He polluted everything that a Slayer is supposed to stand for and use her powers for. He had her destroying those she was meant to defend. And by asking her if she wants to play mini-golf and telling her she should drink more milk and other fatherly and friendly things like that, he was making her even more confused on what was right and who to trust.

I think that at the time, that was the only type of love Faith could respond too She needed to be someone's "Buffy" and it meant being the opposite of everything Buffy stood for.
