Here aer some highlights i loved from this ep.

Wes: "Step one: Dobermans are happily gnawing on the steak. Alarm and vid lines are disabled (pulls out a scanner and looks at its display) no infrared. Caught a break there. Step two: we cut a hole in the glass, snake in the mini-cam and scan the interior."

Gunn walks over to look in the glass door while Wes pulls glasscutter with a suction cup out of his duffel bag and attaches it to the window.

Wes: "If it's all clear, we disable the locks and bolts on the side door thus completing... (Gunn tries the door and it swings open) ...step three."

Wes closes up his duffel and moves over to follow Gunn inside, then hurries back to detach the suction cup from the window and stow it in his bag while Gunn waits for him inside.

Wes hurries in and motions for Gunn to close the patio door

Angel: "I was just thinking about things. - People. You know. How they relate. Take you and me for instance. We're very different. *Very* different. Obviously (points at Cordy) human (points at himself) vampire. (points a Cordy) Woman (points at himself) man...pire."

Cordy: "Has someone been putting vodka in your blood?"

Cordy yells towards Wes open office door: "Angel loves me. I love him."

Angel: "Oh, my god!"

Cordy: "You guys love us and we love you."

Fred, Wes and Gunn chorus: "We love you Angel."

Fred: "Who's Darla?"

Gunn: "Angel's old flame from way back."

Fred: "Not the one that died?"

Gunn: "Yeah. No, not that one. The other one that died and came back to life. She's a vampire."

Fred: "Y'all have a chart or something?"

Gunn: "In the files. I'll get it for you later."

HAHA i loved this ep when they first learn she's preggers with Connor aw :)

OFFSPRING
The Good;
Season 3 really kicks into high gear with the arrival of Darla and her 'passenger'.
The Bad;
?
Best line:
CC; "What are friends for?"
Darla; "Knocking you up and leaving you high and dry"
Just beating Lorne's "It's beyond my Ken and my Barbie and all my action figures"
Jeez, how did they get away with that?
Cordy describes Angel as not going evil but 'going male' which is positively misandrist.
Apocalypses: 5
Angel Cliches
Inverting the Hollywood cliche;
Darla the pregnant mother is still pure evil, defying all our expectations
In disguise; 8
DB get's his shirt off; 12
9,
Cheap Angel; 7
Fang Gang in bondage:
Cordy: 5
Angel: 11
Wes: 6
Gunn; 3
Lorne; 2

Fang gang knocked out:
Cordy: 11
Angel: 14
Wes: 5
Doyle; 1
Gunn; 1
Lorne; 2
Kills:
Cordy: 5 vamps, 3½ demons
Angel; 28 vamps, 40 and 1/2 demons, 3 humans
Doyle; 1 vamp
Wes; 7 demons+1 vamp
Kate; 3 vamps
Faith; 16 vamps, 6 demons, 3 humans.
Gunn; 8 vamps+ 6 demons.
Fang Gang go evil:
Cordy: 2
Angel: 2
Gunn; 1
Wes; 1

Alternate Fang Gang:
Cordy: 2
Angel: 7

Characters killed:
45
Recurring characters killed;
7;
Total number of Angel Investigations:
5, Angel, Cordy, Wes, Gunn and Fred

Angel Investigations shot:
Angel: 11
Wes; 1
Packing heat; Wes takes the pistol from the scroll owner
Wes; 4
Doyle; 1
Angel; 1
Gunn; 1

Notches on Fang Gang bedpost:
Cordy: 3 ?+Wilson/Hacksaw Beast+Phantom Dennis
Angel: 5; Buffy, Darla and The Transcending Furies
Wes; 2; Virginia and the bleached blonde

Kinky dinky:
Wes refers to the date rape drugs GHB/rohypnol. CC refers to the Furies as Angel's 'chippies' and hopes they're on the pill. CC refers to Angel 'boning' Darla.
Captain Subtext;
The Kyrumption subtext between CC and Angel finally comes to the fore but Darla's arrival puts a spanner in the works. Darla seems appalled by the world suggesting her baby is already giving her a soul.
Know the face, different character; 4
Jack Conley as Sahjhan, also played the werewolf hunter Cain in the Buffy season 2 ep Phases
Parking garages;
5,
Guantanamo Bay;
Buffy characters on Angel; 16
Wetherby, Collins and Smith. Angel, Cordy, Oz, Spike, Buffy, Wes, Faith, Darla, Dru, The Master, Anne, Willow and Harmony
Questions and observations;
Hang on everybody, we're going for a hell of a ride! Holst appears to be a Catholic which is ironic given that he's based on Oliver Cromwell who was markedly anti-Catholic despite being largely regarded as a champion of liberty. Gunn is a great juggler, I wonder if he was taught by the same person as Buffy in 'Hell's Bells'?
Marks out of 10; 8/10

:star: That speech where Fred rambles on and on in an attempt to tell the gang about Holtz's imminent arrival and they all just shout in unison, "FRED!" :rotfl: She was adorable at this point in the show. Amy Acker does a great job of showing a balance of Fred being very intelligent but also dopey. :innocent:

:star: Cordelia's reaction to discovering that Angel slept with Darla is VERY, very revealing. It's basically a foreshadowing of her realization about him in 'Tomorrow'. It can also be interpreted as a call-back to her yelling at him in 'Disharmony' about the drastic potential consequences of sleeping with Darla, but I'd say it's an overwhelming sign of Cordy's true feelings for him. :nod: She's clearly very hurt by it, and this shows in how she immediately reacts by becoming very protective of pregnant Darla. It's a desperate attempt to distance herself from him.

:star: The scene where Darla goes hunting for children to feed on in the play center because she cannot bear the hunger that her human fetus is causing her is deeply scary. There is a horror movie called CLOWN that has the villainous clown (who was previously a human male that is being taken over by a clown costume) doing the same thing, preying on kids in a play center. It's horrific, and every time I watch this episode I think of that. :eek:

:star: I love that Cordelia fights back against Darla when she gets aggressive. Angel had prepared her for training sessions in the basement in earlier season 3 episodes and it really shows here. :punch:

4/5 rating. It used to be higher on my list, but in retrospect, Darla's pregnancy and Holtz's arrival just becomes part of a convoluted plot that is completely exploited in season 4. Perhaps it doesn't help that David Greenwalt, the show's co-creator and writer of this episode, was gone by season 4. :pout:

I love how Fred can see the connection between Angel and Cordy. Angel tries to deny it but just the way he looks at Cordy you can tell he has feelings for her.

This. :nod: I was confused at first as to why Cordelia would suddenly become so protective over Darla just because she's pregnant, but that makes sense. It's a good job she didn't completely let her guard down around Darla or she probably would have been in a worse condition.

I'm still curious as to how Darla could be pregnant as it's been stated many times that should be impossible.

wickedrum 01-20-2024 10:25 AM

I think it’s a pretty natural reaction, becoming very protective of pregnant women, regardless of their nature

livstevi21 01-20-2024 10:34 AM

True.

sum1 02-12-2024 09:01 AM

Except Darla wasn't a woman, she was a 400 year old soulless vampire who'd as soon snack on them as look at them. I found Cordy's behavior dumb and annoying.

wickedrum 02-12-2024 03:43 PM

For the unborn child’s sake then?

sum1 02-13-2024 04:37 AM

Connor? As played by Vincent Kartheiser? No way.

wickedrum 02-13-2024 02:21 PM

She didn’t know that at the time :lol:

BlackWhiteRose 03-05-2024 03:17 PM

I agree.

sum1 03-06-2024 04:45 AM

Maybe somebody should have told her about the bottom of the sea thing.
