Yeah, it really was at that; and that sole relationship in the show has done me immesurable good, standards-wise; as Rupert basically kind of became her daddy; and he did show solid manhood and masculine values... he is a lot saner than a lot of men today; and that's shameful of guys' anatomy and physiology if we've fallen that far behind in terms of standing up for ourselves and our families and neighbors.
*That* is another thing I like about this show a lot: it shows the need for men to *act* like men- I think it does a lot of overall good in those areas.

Yeah, and in several ways it is very good for me to observe his reactions to, as he thinks of them, his adopted children's foolish conduct. Me? Honestly, if any associate of mine even contacts a *benevolent* spirit, not to mention a *malevolent* one, I'm liable to end them for treason against humanity.
That said; characters like Whistler and Lorne, would rate rather as good spirits; alien beings who've said, in the course of their lives, that service to neighbor is right, good, and wise, on an objective level. In some degree, I've reached the semiconclusion that what they'd see as what we call the "War in Heaven", would be akin to the Spanish Civil War in a lot of ways: initially it was something like a secular state trying to institute a state religion, with its "Shigalov" (think "The First Evil" aka the devil itself, as it is clearly supposed to be) as its semi-god... well, some of them said "NO! that's *dumb*." and wouldn't participate. Ironically it appears that the work of a professed atheist was the catliist for me to conclude that detail about such things.
I am not saying that the author's a good man, I don't have that kind of data, I am saying that his work has done *me* some solid good.
