I think it shows a nice contrast how Buffy was indifferent and uncaring towards Tara's birthday in "Family" and how she later needed Tara at hers in "Older and Far Away". What a wonderful progression. I like how their relationship was an initial awkward "just my friend's significant other" thing and how it was awkward for them to be alone together (as shown in "The Body"). While Tara wasn't exactly Buffy's new best friend in S6, I do think Buffy had a deeper relationship with her than any of Xander or Willow's other girlfriends or boyfriends, except maybe Cordelia.
One of things I loved about "Family" was that the Scoobies defended Tara to her family BEFORE it was confirmed she wasn't a demon. That makes me want to laugh in the faces of all the wrong AtS fans who always talk about how the Scoobies are black and white and hate demons no matter what, which isn't true. |

Definitely, and I think even more than that, it definitely shows growth in both characters more than can possibly be stated
I never understood that way of thinking, in all honesty. BtVS was just driven by more human characters rather than ones that were demons. AtS had more so in that regard, but that hardly means the former was bad in some way. __________________

That claim against BTVS is so dumb. I mean, look at Buffy with Riley in New Moon Rising, getting angry with what she saw as his prejudice against all demons without knowing facts, and how she called him out on that. As well as the example you mentioned with Tara, and there are probably more.

I read a lovely post on Tumblr the other day with some adorable headcanon friendship scenarios between Buffy and Tara, I'll try and find it again to post next time. One was Tara teaching Buffy yoga to help her zen out and therefore become more focused when fighting. Another was taking the scenario of Buffy being bisexual in the comics and her realising it earlier, during the show, with Tara being the first person she came out to.

Awww
Both of those I could honestly see happening on the show Especially with how close we saw Buffy and Tara get to each other in Season 6 __________________

I'd have loved to see the yoga thing happen on the show, for example

I honestly think all of those would be good additions, especially since we didn't get that many scenes between these two on the show sadly

Tara being there quietly for Buffy in The Body, not overwhelming her, just trying to offer support any way she could. A wonderful understated moment

Buffy probably really appreciated that, someone just sitting quietly with her and not constantly crowding her or asking how she was. Plus Tara had been through the same situation, she was probably the only one who truly understood.

Exactly Some people might like having people constantly asking them how they are, but you could tell Buffy just wanted some time alone to try and make sense of everything. What Tara did was just the right amount of giving her her space, and checking to make sure she was alright.
