I agree with everybody who said what was the point of Audrey's death. at this point, 24 deaths has just been pointless.

I felt Renee death last season could've also not happened, so I'm just at the point of knowing that it's all about making Jack life more miserable then his previous years.

It gets...boring, you know? That was a twist in season 1 when he seemed like a family guy and stuff, but by now it's just not surprising anyone anymore, so WHY keep doing the same freaking thing over and over??

teri-murdered by nina
renee-murdered by Russian sniper
Audrey-murdered by cheng's sniper
palmer-murdered by logan/Henderson/jacks father and brother/Wilson and a bunch of others
michelle-ditto
walsh-killed in a gunfight while he was right next to him
mason-took jacks place on the plane that saved los angeles from the nuke
chapelle-killed by jack to stop suanders from spreading the virus
Curtis-killed by jack to stop him from killing a reformed terrorist
tony-killed by Henderson, brought back from the dead, now (last check) is in prison by jack capturing him

the only 3 people that aren't dead or permanently messed up (yet) are kate warner, kim and chloe lol

I didn't mind Audrey dying as I'm not a fan of that character at all. I knew once Jack got that news though, that it was going to put him into overdrive, and I love overdrive Jack lol.

I love that they left the ending open should the show return. *crossing fingers it comes back somehow*

There is 2nd version of the season 1 finale Kim and Jack find her alive ! one of the few happy endings ,well alternate one !!

I have posted a interview with the Excutive producers on Why they felt Audrey had to die .

Chang we knew was a no brainer , sans him killing audrey he would have killed him anyway .

The sad scene of Pres Heller watching as her casket is removed and carryed to the plane was sad. Perhaps if Jack was there to say goodbye it would have been even sadder .

My only issue is wtih 100% confirmation to the Chinese that it was Chang alive and in "custody" they still had doubts . One would think they have just as advanced software to imenditaly verify what they had already been told .

One other hole where is device ? Chang was so busy tryong to get out and with Jack fighting his way onto the ship . Barely a mentiion of Override device in safe hands . Kate was avoiding sniper fire trying to protect audrey .

When i saw Jack on the ship i thought back to end of Season 5 , he says goodbye to audrey and is taken by chang ..

It wasn't necessary to kill Audrey unless they just wanted to close the chapter on the Boudreau's I'm just glad Chloe is ok, trading her life for Jack's capture by the Russians is something I would expect from Jack Hopefully, it leaves the door open for a new season and the next chapter of 24

ironic that the Chinese needed verification that there own former agent was causing all the trouble.

since he was doing there dirty work when he kidnapped jack in the first place.

yeah, that alternate ending i have on the season one dvd.....

That alternate S1 ending was so ridiculously cheesily done with all those long hugs and such. You can pull off a happy ending without an extra cheese on your pizza, you know.

Anyway back to the LAD ending.
I liked Jack being taken by Russians in the end. I was worried that all that revenge spree would be conveniently swept under the rug, I am glad Jack actually paying the consequences of his actions.

Audrey death cliche and very predictable but I suppose it is still true to the character. She, as a civilian, was getting captured every season, episodes were spent just to get her out of trouble, in essence she got away from death way too many times, so I suppose it was her time to go now.

I would say this was pretty much her worst season along with S6 with really nothing to work with as a character, no arc, barely any character development, just minutes of interaction with Jack. She pretty much only existed just to support the three male characters arcs (Heller, Mark, and Jack) this season for them to feel and act sth rather than being her own character. The writers clearly struggled to give her anything this season, and when Mark and Heller were also done, so was she.

Kate makes a blunder with Audrey mission by wasting too much time on that park after the initial save. And I was getting too many Renee flashbacks with Kate failing to Save Audrey - Renee failing to save Marika and leaving the badge and gun in the final episodes of S7 and LAD. Anyway, I think she made the correct decision to quit. Honestly, after all happened to the characters in 24, staying in law enforcement is the worst decision someone can make in life, LOL.

Writing despair stirs up emotion, sure – but tears are cheap. It’s easy to get our characters into scrapes, to beat them bloody, to take away everything they care about; it’s harder to get them out of trouble, heal them, and give them their hearts’ desires while making it meaningful and believable instead of nauseatingly cheesy.

they really had no intention of using that ending though, as evidenced in the commentery to the deleted scene........

no offense to terri though, but i just cant imagine jack being happy on this show unless they have a REAL 'finale with him riding off into the sunset, no threats, no kidnapping, no physical danger.......either him alone or finally with the woman he loves (whoever that may be)

This isn't over!

Two possible options: There's a big threat to the world, so the Russians have to release Jack, or there'll be a rescue team of Kate, Chloe and Belcheck.

Great ending, great season. Nothing more to say. Except one: I love Yvonne Strahovski!

Oh, yeah. Overdrive is when Jack is at his most dangerous. I loved in season 1 when Nina lied to him about Kim being dead, and he went after the Drazens, killing all of them.

Belcheck is easily one of my new favorite characters without doing much at all...

Hi everyone - I'm a long time lurker of these boards and post a bit over on the 24spoilers site but feel I need some discussion regarding last night's episode.

I’ve been thinking about the finale for 24 hours now and I still have such conflicted feelings – I think it will always be like that.

Jack does succeed in saving the country/countries as seems to be his life purpose. He does go to Russia to willingly and happily pay for his sins – the sins that landed him there but also symbolic of all of his sins and the death and destruction that seems to follow him around. The Chloe/Jack moment at the end was beautiful but no more beautiful than the similar moment in S8. I appreciate that it was his last sacrifice, for his friend but the moment didn’t hold enough significance for me to change the mood from everyone else’s storylines…

I did not enjoy how season 9 officially screwed every single character. Jack is more heartbroken than ever especially as he told Audrey he wanted to rescue Heller “for her” – well he sure did but Heller’s going to die soon anyway and oops, now Audrey is also dead. Chloe is alive sure but she has a dead husband, child and no life to run back to. Audrey is dead – I think her character deserved better than a rushed, meaningless, illogical, emotional ploy of a death. Getting one last phone call with Jack was important for Jack’s character but for Audrey, although seeing Jack again I’m sure was amazing for her – not worth dying for. Mark (I’m not saying I was a fan) actually wasn’t that “bad” but now he was a dead wife he loved and is up for treason charges for a country he loves. Heller has a dead child and his Alzheimers will ruin him sooner rather than later, and I bet he is willing it to because of the pain he’s in re. Audrey. Kate who was only introduced this season didn’t escape heartbreak as her husband’s storyline was woven in, a friend died, she was betrayed by another friend, she couldn’t save Audrey for Jack or for Heller or for the USA (Who I’m sure would be rocked by her death – as any president’s child dying would in our society)…

So, I really did enjoy this season. I will always maintain that 24 is filled with action and suspense and is not like any other show, even though you sometimes have to excuse the recycled storylines and insanity of some plot lines (we love it, come on). I really feel like they killed all hope this season and whilst a lot of characters did get closure, it was worse than the open endedness (before S9 I imagined Heller for example as a powerful politician still or retired but still powerful with a probably recovered daughter) left by previous seasons…

It is so integral that Jack is “superhuman” and can handle personal loss after loss after loss yet still come back to save the country for the greater good but the other characters don’t possess this (That’s what makes Jack who he is) so to see all of them burned to the ground in one way or another was a little heartbreaking for a non superhuman audience.

The story of Jack Bauer is tragic and sadly I don't think he will ever get a happy ending.
