The show will return in the summer of 2014 as an event series called "24: Live Another Day." Kiefer Sutherland has signed on to play Jack Bauer again, with the story picking up several years after the last season, which aired in 2009. There's no word yet on any other casting.

"Live Another Day" will run for 12 weeks and keep its real-time format, but FOX Entertainment Chairman Kevin Reilly says it may skip hours here and there.

"As [executive producer Howard Gordon] would design the season, the spine of the 24 episodes was really about 12 hours. Those were where the big events occurred, and then there were little twists and connective tissue in between," Reilly told reporters on a conference call Monday (May 13). Each episode of "Live Another Day" will still unfold over the course of an hour, but viewers won't see as much of the in-between hours. "It may go 7 a.m., 8 a.m., 10 a.m.," Reilly says, depending on how the story comes together.

Reilly says the return of "24" grew out of the network announcing it was making a push into limited-run series, and Gordon and the "24" team's frustration at trying to design a feature film based on the show.

"As they got into the feature film, I think they all agreed that '24' compressed into two hours is not '24,'" Reilly says. "Talking about it over the last couple of years, they kind of got their juices flowing again, and when we announced this new [miniseries] franchise, a little light bulb went off for Howard. He said, 'Wait a minute. Why are we killing ourselves trying to crack a feature when this is the perfect format?'"

"Live Another Day" will probably be paired with another scripted series in the summer of 2014 -- Reilly mentioned the drama "Gang Related" as one that might hold until then. Another limited series, the thriller "Wayward Pines," is currently set to launch in the late summer next year and carry into fall.

Calling the shots is JAMES HELLER (William Devane, “The Dark Knight Rises”), now President of the United States. Heller is flanked by his Chief of Staff MARK BOUDREAU, who is married to Heller’s daughter – Jack’s former flame, AUDREY RAINES (Kim Raver, “Revolution”). Meanwhile, a hardened CHLOE O’BRIAN (Mary Lynn Rajskub, “Firewall”), Bauer’s CTU confidante, is now working underground with high-profile hacker ADRIAN CROSS (Michael Wincott, “The Crow”). Even though we know her role is to find and do whatever the CIA wants with Jack Bauer. Plus the stills are showing action involving Jack facing off with Cia Agent Kate morgan .

Add in we do not know what is going on , figure first few days of shoootng has to be for Episode 1 . Also think a few of the scenes are for the promo .. Yvonne wasnt in London last week when Kiefer and Mary Lynn shot there promo scene

Probably a romance will happen, not different from when Renee was searching for Jack in Season 7.. Audrey is back but she's married so ya never know.

Hey Tia /Tim how is this fan made banner for the Op ? dont het me crying over my late 'renee" in looking back S-8 jack going on rampage killing everyone that had to do woth renee death , her death was very important for S-8

I think based on todays set photos they may have been doing some for the promo . only based on what I saw, seemed like "jack was injured " I felt if they are shooting ep 1 , why would Jack be hurt so early on

I wish they'd bring Tony back. I'm not a big fan of Audrey's but I'm so happy the show is back, I'm not complaining.

Love the gif! and remember for very important stuff... use spoiler tags. It doesn't hurt. lol I don't want to get spoiled too much about the series and what's going to happen with characters. I've never bee spoiled with 24, that's what always made the episodes great for me.

When combined with inventory in the halftime show and before and after the game, the minutes can add up – giving some viewers the impression the TV network is running as many ads for itself as it is for makers of soda, chips and cars.

The selection can be telling. The programs a network chooses to pitch during Super Bowl Sunday usually serves as an indication of which shows are higher up on the network’s list of business priorities. Both “Cosmos” and “24” are new efforts in a Fox initiative to devise top-draw programming that may not last as long as a typical broadcast-network series. “24” will take place over 12 episodes while “Cosmos” will last 13. Both series will prove instrumental in helping Fox build viewership over the summer months, a time that is growing more competitive for the broadcasters.
