As I'm not that familiar with horror things, not really. But I'm not surprised Ryan took inspiration (gave a nod) to old horror stuff.

It's not actually a horror movie. It's a dark cult classic, but essentially, the popular girls start dying (staged as a suicide). They're all named Heather. I would definitely recommend seeing it. It really reminds me of this show show.
