Oh, yes, I remember that episode very well! Poor Julia. Aww, you think she is difficult for most to like? Why do you think so?
No, I don't want spoilers. I am very anxious to catch up though because I've come across a few spoiler pictures on accident. I am assuming that Julia and Joel end up adopting an older boy.

I don't know, I think in Season 1 Julia comes on very strong. She is mostly about work, and not home as much with Sydney. Her siblings pick on her because she usual has an agenda of her own in most situations, and she can be controlling. That type of stuff I can imagine makes her unlikeable. But I think she is a good person, you see other sides of her very quickly. She's a great character, I love her!

I'm now through 3x08 and they're on their way to adopting Zoe's baby, but I kind of already know it doesn't work out for whatever reason.

(So glad Seth is gone. He was totally going to ruin Sarah/Mark!)

Ah, that's true! It's been a while since I've seen the first seasons so I may be thinking of her progression through the series, but she was actually always my favorite anyway! I always found her sympathetic, strong, and one of the best female characters on TV.

Seth may be gone, but so is...

NEVERMIND.

Your prediction would almost always be right, but this is the rare circumstance where it's wrong! It's actually because "amandes" means "almonds" in French, so his name is literally Tom Almonds. I found this out recently when I was at the store L'occitane (it sells French lotions and such, if you don't have it where you live) and it had one labeled Amande. Of course my eyes widened with surprise and delight at the label, and then I saw that the translation was "almond" for the scent!

See how you are meant to hook up with Tommy Almonds? Only you would encounter this situation and think of Amandes.

Really, only me?! Oh, come now! If you saw the word Amande on a lotion, are you truly telling me you wouldn't bat an eye? Chelley! For shame! As an "Everwood" fan--and as a Harold fan!--you should think of Tommy too!

...Then again, if only me noticing that means that I will hook up with Tommy someday...I'll take it.

I suggest that we promptly kill this thread so you can start the new one with your own creative new title and even redecorate the first page. I mean, you are his significant other, so you should be the thread starter after all.

Oh, my, now that is quite a task, and quite an honor at that! *rolls up sleeves determinedly* TO THE NEW THREAD! Onwards and upwards!

Question: Was there a moment while watching the series when you knew you loved Harold?

You know, I think it went like this (I may have told you this story or parts of it before, but bear with me for the sake of my answer to your question): my family and I bought the first season of "Everwood" years before I actually watched the entire series, and we watched perhaps a few episodes. For some reason, we didn't get into it and never watched beyond those. *I'm not sure what we were on at the time* But then in 2011, after marathoning and becoming obsessed with "Prison Break" during the summer, we decided to embark on another series to watch as a family.

I looked through our DVDs and stumbled across "Everwood". I remembered that we had enjoyed the first episodes we watched even though we didn't continue and that it showed potential; I also remembered that there was one character in particular that I suspected would make it especially intriguing.

So we decided to give it a proper shot and we became hooked from "The Pilot" that time around! I suppose we had come to our senses! Upon rewatching, I was keeping an eye out for that persnickety doctor character and his scenes in "The Pilot" reinforced my suspicions that he would be my favorite, especially his first meeting with Andy of course.

I'm fairly certain I also developed a crush on him since that first episode but I feel like "Deer God" was a turning point for me as well. Perhaps after his newspaper craziness, it turned from a crush into love? *ponders* That might have been it.

I know you have said that while Amy is your favorite character overall, Harold is your favorite "older character", so I must throw the question back to you! When did you realize that you loved Harold?

Fantastic story! I think I've heard a slight version of it. I don't remember how you stopped and picked it up again. Imagine if you would have not found that DVD and suggested to watch it again?!

You might never have:

1. Watched Everwood ever again!
2. Dated Tom/Harold.
3. Met cool me!

As for when Harold was my favorite older character... it was when Harold and Andy first met, Harold was ticked at where Andy parked, Harold insulted where Andy was setting up his medical practice, Harold was pissed at Andy for stealing all his patients, Harold was basically obsessed with the Great Doctor Brown.

I also loved these quotes:

Quote:
DR. HAROLD ABBOTT
My daughter is dating a paroled addict.

DR. ANDREW BROWN
My 16 year-old son is dating his 20 year old baby sitter.

DR. HAROLD ABBOTT
Barkeep, two more.
Even the couple of Andy/Harold knew Tommy and Madison sucked.

Quote:
Harold: Did I mention I had only three hours of sleep last night?

Edna: About a hundred times now. I swear, you yammer on like an old woman. Besides, we're almost there.

Harold: Almost where? We're in the middle of forest oblivion. If I didn't know you better mother, I'd think you brought me out here to knock me off. On second thought...
LOL! I loved the interaction Harold had with Andy and Edna so much. Amandes is such a captivating actor. I noticed him immediately. Same with Emily. They both have this eye catching acting that you can't miss. It really is the acting for me. Tom just brought it and I noticed!

I know, right?! It's crazy to think about that! I would have missed out on seeing one of the greatest-written and greatest-acted shows ever, dating my dream guy, and meeting one of my best friends. I'm so glad that Fate stepped in that day and made me find that DVD!

That scene truly showcased so much of what we have all come to love about Harold, and about the Harold/Andy dynamic. Truly the perfect introductory scene! Berlanti, Amandes, and Williams = genius.

Oh, and in "The Pilot", when all of the patients were lined up at Andy's office and the one man said "Thanks, Mr. I-Can't-See-You-Without-An-Appointment" and it's supposed to be a moment of victory for Andy and for the audience...I was probably one of the few that felt bad for Harold and kind of wanted to wipe the satisfied smirk off Andy's face.

I love that part too! I loved all of the Andy/Harold bar scenes. Man...they should have had more of those in season 3 and 4; in fact, I don't think there were any at all in those seasons. And it was blasphemous in season 3 when they showed Andy and Jake meeting and taking medicine at the bar.

Ha! The Harold/Edna scene!! YES. I love them together. They play off each other so well since they are both similar and opposite at the same time. Wow, that'd be another thread for me to revive--or create if it hasn't been already.

And you're definitely right about the acting. Harold could have easily been a one-dimensional character, someone like Taylor Doose, but obviously Berlanti never intended that for him and thank goodness that they got an actor with such a wide range, extraordinary in both comedy and pathos, to bring this complex character to life. I really don't think too many actors could pull off the task of making Harold kooky and crazy, uptight and snarky, and warm and sympathetic all at the same time.

How does it get any better than that trio? Seriously.

It's true love is what it is!

Seriously, think about how hard that was on Harold. He was the town doctor for years.. his father was the town doctor before that. Suddenly, a hot shot NY arrogant filthy rich neurosurgeon doctor moves to town and instantly takes all his patients by paying for their healthcare? That had to suck!

I know! Jake was one huge reason why Harold/Andy had limited scenes in those two seasons. Their season 1 scenes especially were golden and I really wish that would have maintained in the later seasons!

Do it!!!!!

To be honest, I am not sure there even is a Harold/Edna thread! I don't remember seeing one unless I lost my mind and can't remember at the moment.

Let me check something... I don't see one that was created back when we kept track of threads being created: http://www.fanforum.com/f104/read-fi...rces-63044474/

Feel free to create one!

Totally! Tom made Harold very likable and lovable. I think if another actor played Harold with less talent, Harold could have come across as rather unlikable. Harold was a tough character to play. The audience had to embrace and pick up on all of his quirks and traits. Harold screws up, annoys, is awesome at the same time and because Tom plays the character, the audience just cheers and loves Harold.

Oh yes, both Harold and Amy were 20% script/Berlanti but 80% Tom and Emily. The talented actors made those two characters.

I'll help with this killing of the thread. I have to admit that I wasn't crazy about Harold when I first met him. But since this is an appreciation thread...I have to say that when I was first made aware of how Edna abandoned him....how he strongly kept his dad's family practice going while Linda was trying to save the world...when I saw what a wonderful loving husband and father he was....when I saw what a good loyal friend he became to Andy...when I saw that he finally realized that Ephram was not a future felon and a good love candidate for his daugher....that's when I started to love Harold!
