This episode represented words that were finally exchanged. In every storyline, everyone communicated things to each other that were simmering inside for a long while... go down the list with all the storylines/pairings and "words unspoken" were finally communicated.

Andy/Amanda: Disgusting. I cannot believe how they freely spend time at the Brown's not caring who sees them. They say the most ridiculous things to each other. Amanda has absolutely zero guilt and feels like the world owes her for the way her life has played out. It is perplexing. I don't know if it is the writing or how Heche has decided to play the character but from the moment Amanda decided she wanted Andy she has been persistent and snake-like, without guilt, total manipulation and loving every minute of it. She gets mad when Andy becomes confused and pauses, leading to more passive aggressive manipulation. Otherwise, she does not care she is married or Andy has two children, the town would absolutely rip them in two if they found out; she only wants Andy. Nina tells Andy he constantly goes for unavailable women and gives him a perfect speech filled with precise advice he really should follow. Nina gives Andy a roadmap to peace, calm and clarity! What does he do? Andy does the exact opposite of what Nina tells him to do. What makes it even worse is Andy makes it completely obvious that he's jealous over Nina and Jake. He was severely jealous and still didn't understand why he was so bothered, even after talking to Nina too and finding out Jake was over there in a chronic way. Andy didn't wonder why he didn't care about Amanda briefly while fuming with jealousy and confusion over the Nina and Jake reality? Nope. Even Amanda was too stupid to understand why Andy was so bothered. Instead they proceed with the vile affair. I also remember in S1 when Colin told him not to revive if it was bad and Andy was so strict about honoring his patient's wishes. What about John's wishes who cannot express them? Can you believe S1 Andy and now S3 Andy are even the same person? Unreal. Vile. I have never been so revolted by any relationship as I am with Andy and Amanda in history of watching television.

Andy/Nina: Nina was a spiritual goddess for ripping Andy about his affair. This was not just about jealousy, although that was definitely intertwined; but what Nina told Andy was the absolute truth. As mentioned, I am completely shocked that Andy took Nina's brilliant words and twisted them into trying to justify that he, indeed, wanted to continue on with the hurl-inducing affair with Amanda! Leave it up to Andy to hear the ultimate truth and then somehow find a way to still go against that truth.

Regarding Andy/Nina, and their reactions to Amanda and Jake on a romantic level... yes, there was jealousy circling everywhere like a pack of wolves. They are both very bothered over seeing the other with someone else. Berlanti, once again, makes it very obvious that Andy and Nina are his second main pairing of the series, but right now it is so frustrating to watch what Andy is doing. He is circling the drain, all because he feels he needs punished for covering up the Madison pregnancy, something he tried like hell to prevent in the first place by keeping them apart but they wouldn't listen. A bleeding ulcer couldn't make him see the light so he proceeds to go all in with Amanda and make the entire audience feel like we lost the real Andy Brown forever.

Jake/Nina: I just don't like them but anything is better than Andy and Amanda. I take that back... I like that Nina has a boyfriend before ultimately ending up with Andy and after her failed marriage but at the same time, knowing what is to come and how long Jake stays is tough. But I can understand why Nina wants to be with Jake right now. Even lame Amanda understands why. I did find Jake's reaction to finding out Andy is the guy Nina is in love with very interesting. He is not happy, you can tell. Jake finding out was deliberately inserted in there as a future storyline in the series finale... Jake being the one to spell it out to Nina. One thing specifically I noticed in this one... Jake left work a little before 3 and then shows up at Nina's at almost 4:30. Where did he go in small town Everwood for that hour and a half? LOL. Yes, my mind wonders about the little details that could end up being profound, both in fiction-land and in the real world.

Harold/Edna: Beautiful. This is my very favorite episode for these two even if S1 had a few good ones as well. Wow, was this episode just perfect for mother/son. I loved hearing about how Harold Jr was just getting started at the clinic while Harold Sr was very intellectually passionate and Edna was helping both her husband and son run the clinic as the head nurse. What a great little trio they must have been. I loved how they had "a drink" together and where the alcohol came from which made it seem like spiritually the trio was back together again (with Harold Sr in Spirit) sharing a moment. The mother/son quick-witted bantering is so fun to watch. Edna even recalled moments when Harold was younger. It is more than obvious how much these two really love each other underneath all of that bantering. What was so outstanding about this episode is the fact that they didn't constantly cover up their true feelings underneath the bantering. They actually opened up to each other and allowed some of their "realness" to show up and make it known they care about each other sincerely which is priceless.

Bright/Hannah: They are really cute in this episode. I love Hannah going into Bright's work and coming up with that song and dance about a fake tragedy. Bright hugging Hannah was melt-worthy. I got goosebumps. It was an amazingly emotionally charged moment. Both of them racing each other to the top of the hill was adorable. That horrible idiot Bright is dating right now is nauseating. I know Bright and Hannah aren't perfectly matched now and in the future, but Bright with the other idiot is not a good match either. LOL. I love how Bright was focused on Hannah from the moment she told him about her father until the very end. You just knew Bright's mind is in a different place after this episode concluded.

Amy/Hannah: Adorable friendship. I love the healthy balance they have going on. They really connect and instinctively read each other. I adored the bathroom scene as Amy crushes Hannah into a stall. Hannah: "I'm uncomfortable." Being the overly attentive student that I was in high school, I found myself bothered by Hannah missing her American History quiz! I hope she makes it up. LOL. I also loved the scene when Hannah and Amy are talking after Hannah tells Ephram and Bright about her father and Hannah turning the tables on Amy about Amy's jealousy as Hannah tells Amy she has NO REASON to be jealous of Madison since Ephram is totally in love with HER. Hannah has Ephram and Amy perfectly analyzed... she told Amy she is 50% of the problem as to why Ephram and Amy were fighting/bickering all day long. You can tell even in the car with just Ephram and Amy before they got Bright that Hannah understood Amy was being passive aggressive with Ephram. I loved how Hannah pointedly told Amy that she needs to forgive Ephram, drop the passive aggressive deal or else she is going to lose her relationship with Ephram, which Hannah, instinctively knew Amy didn't want to have happen. What perfect advice. Hannah has supported and believed in Ephram and Amy from day 1 which I will always appreciate. The way that Amy and Hannah can read each other is simply amazing. How they can have a conversation and integrate back and forth between each other's issues and problems is outstanding. This is a special friendship between two teenage girls. Dawson's Creek had nothing close to this (Joey hated everyone but boys) and One Tree Hill didn't even have this kind of friendship, not like this. Amy and Hannah both needed each other at this precise time as well... universal magic making it happen.

Ephram/Bright: The best scene of the entire episode was between these two. Wise and beautiful, Bright, telling Ephram about the silver lining... I love how Bright told Ephram that he was instantly all wiggy in love with Amy the moment he met her. How lucky they are to have each other. Bright was talking in spiritual terms and didn't even know it either... he mentioned how they all found each other, even Hannah right next door and what it means. Absolutely. It was all meant to be. You get the sense that Hannah will get through her situation with her father not just due to Amy but Bright (and Ephram) as well. I also love how Bright told Ephram that he IS young. Bright is wise, very spiritually wise. He gets it. He might not have the perfect grades or test scores but Bright understands what really counts, the big picture, love and kindness, strength of spirit, bonds, universal power and persuasion bringing people together with similar life themes that are meant to share important moments side by side as a whole.

Hannah: Calling Jillian "Barbie" was priceless. Sure, it was out of line, but I still loved the raw jealousy. Hannah finally coming out and telling Ephram and Bright about her dad was heartbreaking. Ephram and Bright looked so devastated. Hannah getting so upset with herself for admitting the slight manipulative reasoning behind her telling the truth made me love her even more. Her balance of confidence and insecurity is beautiful. Growing up Catholic, I loved her comment about wanting to go to Church and "throw down some Hail Mary's."

I also love that Berlanti has Hannah and her family from Lakeville, Minnesota. Lakeville borders the city we live in. Hannah talking about all the lakes and beauty of Minnesota... oh yes, indeed, Berlanti and Rina understand the gorgeous beauty that exists in the state of Minnesota.

Ephram/Amy/Bright/Hannah: How cute were the four of them sledding together? It doesn't matter what your age, sledding is so much fun with those you love and care about. The four of them looked so cute together, having a blast. I also love how initially they didn't really do much but that was the "emotional bonding" part of the ditch day. Then leave it to Bright to get them into a "sporty activity" of sledding together followed by Ephram and Amy and Bright and Hannah sharing moments alone together in pairs. Perfect.

Ephram/Amy: I loved how Ephram teased Amy by driving the car forward so she kept missing the door to get in. Their adorable bantering was "on" as usual. I love Ephram saying... "Tic, tock, Abbott.. the light's going to change any second." I loved how Amy bought Ephram the hat. The little things... how they both sat on the same side of the booth in the restaurant. Amy's jabs of jealousy at Ephram regarding Madison whenever the four of them were on the walk only showed how much she was not over the band lie. Amy to Ephram: "I thought you just went to a bar to see 'Madison' play?" I loved Hannah... "Guys, you are giving me a migraine." Amy telling Ephram she loves him was nice. Amy mentioning she was disappointed that they didn't have any alone time together... so then they went off together at the end and make no mistake about it... they were not just going off for a few kisses in the car. They were both glowing, hurried to drive away, in search of the safest, most secure place so they could have physical intimacy together.

In addition, the emotional intimacy between these two is the best I have ever seen between any television couple... the longing looks, bantering, flirting, inflections, gazing at each other, eye contact. Seriously, it is PERFECTION. And so, so natural. That eye contact going on in the last scene before they go off to get intimate was amazing. Amy's change of voice into a "girly, flirty" type of tone as you could sense her excitement about going off to be alone and intimate with Ephram, was pure gold. As usual, all the credit goes to Greg and Emily for producing the Ephram and Amy masterpiece. I love how Ephram and Amy eternally conclude that they love each other and are meant to be together. It really is as simple as that.

Outstanding episode which really felt like S1 in quality and tone. Amazing episode. Perfect, truly a perfect day. It had a S1 tone. The episode was paced beautifully, as so many words were exchanged between characters with important moments that, at times, brought us back to the very beginning. I loved every minute of it minus Delia not showing up (maybe thankfully due to the Andy and Amanda vile mess) and Andy losing his mind even if a big general theme is HOPE... we all have hope for Andy Brown to find his way again even if this particular time frame is not a good one for him.

My Thoughts.......

Poor Hannah seeing Bright with a girl like Jillian. Love Hannah's line, "I thought you might be a Barbie." Hilariousl Frankly I believe that Hannah is much more naturally beautiful than Jillian.

OMG...now we doing a Hawaii Five-O theme text? We've graduated from phone calls asking about John's prescription? How creative. I really want Amanda gone. This has been going on too too long.

Ephram is a cute tease...wonder how his tank of a car performs in the snow, because I'm sure is doesn't have front wheel drive!

Harold always sounds like he is orating in a Shakespearean play. Louise is used to it, but Thurman is confused.
Poor Harold. His free day without Andy has been flooded out!

Nina! Tell him, Nina. Andy needs to hear this. Your actions are slimy, Andy, and it's not worth it because you will lose a great friend just to be with Amanda. Yeah, Jake slept over Nina's. Shocking....isn't it, Andy! Why should you have all the fun?

Jake is a good guy...overruling Edna. Edna really is a hard ass. LOL

Amy, let Hannah pee. LOL

It's obvious that Andy is really upset about seeing Jake at Nina's home. Andy wants to see others, but doesn't like when Nina is seeing others?
Plus....looks like Amanda feels a little threatened by Andy's attitude about the whole thing. You should feel threatened, Amanda.

Amanda doesn't care about others' opinions because she has no shame. I believe that to be a very bad human quality. Andy on the hand.....

Terrible acting Hannah, but it worked. Bright, cancel tonight.

"You're a Doodle." Jake is hilarious.
Come on, Edna. Be a good mother and be nice!

Presumptuous of Amanda to just make reservations for Andy. Read the room, Amanda. Andy is not okay with all of this. Andy has a right to judge what he's doing because he has a conscience. Please leave, Amanda.

About time (even though she was playing the dying father card) Hannah is being honest with everyone about why she is in Everwood. I absolutely adore Bright's hug.

Nina is a little too annoyed at Andy and Jake figured it out. Nina, you have no reason to apologize to Andy because what you said needed to be said and I believe your words reached Andy's conscience.

Jake can be super sweet and just what Nina needs right now.

Hannah is a good friend to Amy and just wants her to be happy. Good advice regarding Ephram. Amy needs to finally forgive Ephram if she wants to continue in the relationship.

Edna and Harold do make a great medical team. Love how they handled those sick kids.

Nina has read Andy perfectly and understands his current dating pattern. That's probably why he doesn't pursue Nina. She's a keeper who will love him back.

I love the deep conversation between Ephram and Bright. Tragedy is what brought these 4 friends together, and Bright is happy that it did. He sees all the positives of their life experience which is beautiful. Never knew Bright had so much depth.

Edna and Harold sharing a bottle of Harold Sr's whiskey...priceless.

Finally Amanda is coming to her senses and Andy still wants to be with her????I didn't see that coming!! Andy....think about what Nina said!!!

I adore the sledding scene! Sorry, Jillian, Bright is not going to make it!

"They have a car. We have a car....."

This episode's common theme: Great critical talks.
Amy/Hanna
Bright/Ephram
Harold/Edna
Nina/Andy
Nina/Jake
Amy/Ephram

Unfortunately Andy and Amanda did not have a great critical talk.

Finally!! I always hate when these two are together because the snark makes me sad. They are mother and son for heaven's sake! Love that Edna and Harold had this beautiful talk and went down memory lane. Love how they bonded over Harold Sr's whiskey!

The ice between Hannah and Bright was definitely broken this episode. Jillian who??

I know!! This is a perfect time for these two who have finally figured it out. Of course the writers couldn't keep it that way...would be too boring. So...this too will end.

Right? How many times does Hannah have to see Bright around another girl? I felt like at this point it was overkill, especially since we know what happens later too.

I completely agree. I don't think Jillian looks like a Barbie at all! In fact, her personality seems really annoying and stupid. I agree that Hannah is much more naturally beautiful.

Agreed. She is so disgusting. If she would have been the conflicted Amanda about life in general when we met her while going with this affair that is one thing. She is not that same person. She gives us zero reason to feel for her. She doesn't care about what she is doing at all.

That flood brought him to Edna so it's all good in addition to comedic times with the flood.

That's precisely how it came across... how dare Nina date someone! She should just sit back and watch me date women I will never end up with instead!

Yes, Amanda knew something was wrong, for sure, but didn't know it was jealousy over Nina and Jake. She is too busy trying to get Andy to Vermont!

You can just feel the energy shift to calm and clarity.

Why didn't he listen to Nina, especially after Amanda had a moment of understanding they shouldn't be continuing the affair? Obviously she didn't truly believe it or else she wouldn't have accepted his desire to continue on with the darkness but for that one moment she understood they were better off ending it and he picks that time to say he wants to continue.

100%. I am sick of Hannah having to see Bright with superficial idiots and the same goes for Nina having to witness Andy with another woman and in Nina's case it's worse because Linda was a good person. But yes, you make a brilliant point... thank God Nina was seeing Jake at this point. She deserved this! Finally the tables are turned, Andy, and you have to feel jealousy and understand Nina isn't going to wait around for you!

I don't know. I have no idea what he was doing but found it really strange the time was shown both times. Granted the time was basically a character throughout the entire episode... still... why did we see Jake leave the office at that precise time then make it a point to act like he was mildly doing something wrong for arriving at Nina's around 4:30? Very weird!

Finally!! I always hate when these two are together because the snark makes me sad. They are mother and son for heaven's sake! Love that Edna and Harold had this beautiful talk and went down memory lane. Love how they bonded over Harold Sr's whiskey!
It was so perfect.

Quote:
The ice between Hannah and Bright was definitely broken this episode. Jillian who??
Exactly! Thank God.

Quote:
It turned out to be a perfect day for the three of them. They are definitely a team.

I know!! This is a perfect time for these two who have finally figured it out. Of course the writers couldn't keep it that way...would be too boring. So...this too will end.
I am convinced Rina liked torturing Ephram and Amy. Why put in the Madison band lie if Madisongate explodes in NYC shortly? Why was the band lie necessary? It was so very unnecessary.

HANNAH: I-I'm sorry, what was your name?

JILLIAN: Jillian.

HANNAH: Jillian, okay. That's a good name.

JILLIAN: Thanks.

HANNAH: Better than Barbie. I thought your name might be Barbie.

JILLIAN: No. Jillian.

HANNAH: That's good.

Fade in - Amy is walking out of the house. Ephram is waiting in his car. The time is 8:03am. Amy tries to open the passenger door and Ephram pulls away not letting her open it. She tries again and he pulls away again.]

AMY: Very mature, Ephram.

[Amy opens the car door this time and gets inside. The music is blaring inside the car.]

AMY: So did you send your stuff yet?

EPHRAM: What?

AMY: I said did you send your audition tape yet?

[Ephram turns the music down.]

EPHRAM: Yeah. Yeah, I made it to the pick up booth right as the guy was pulling away. I gave him a burrito as a tip. Bean and cheese.

[Amy just smiles at him.]

EPHRAM: (CONT'D) Do you realize that I'm taking ceramics right now? That's what it's come down to. My academic experience consists of rubbing wet clay in an apron with girls in clogs.

AMY: It's called a smock and your point is?

EPHRAM: That's Virginia Avenue. There are two things I can do here. I can turn right, we can head into the world of Peak County High, a world of conformity and expectation. A world where Dr. Billawalla's class offers fascinating insight in the world of physics or I can turn left.

AMY: What's left?

EPHRAM: Left is freedom and opportunity. Left is a chance for you and me to spend the next how many hours doing whatever we want, however we want, wherever we want.

AMY: Are you saying we should ditch?

[Ephram's eyes are saying to Amy, "You tell me."]

AMY: (CONT'D) Interesting. Will there be pancakes involved?

EPHRAM: The bigger the better. Tick tock, Abbott. Light's gonna change any second.

AMY: I say we go for it.

[The car behind them honks.]

EPHRAM: That a girl.

[Ephram speeds off turning left down the street.]

AMY: Gotcha something.

EPHRAM: (reading the cap) "To all you virgins, thanks for nothing."

AMY: Ummhmm. Pretty good, right? I love this place.

EPHRAM: Yeah, it's great. Maybe I can get some bacon to go with my sausage. Wonder if there's any part of the pig they don't serve here.

AMY: Well, it's not like we can go to MJ'S. We're outlaws, baby, on the run. You want to be Butch or Sundance?

EPHRAM: Did you just call me baby?

AMY: Yeah, that doesn't really work for us, does it?

[Ephram shakes his head.]

AMY: (CONT'D) What else? What'd you find?

EPHRAM: Uh... (looking through the Everwood Pinecone) Pickings are pretty slim. We've got a blood drive. Oh, yard sale.

AMY: Well, we could.... No too boring. Or-or... No that's illegal.

EPHRAM: See, it's not that easy, is it?

AMY: Maybe we need backup.

HANNAH: Amy?

AMY: Sshhh. Sshhh.

HANNAH: I'm uncomfortable.

AMY: Okay, remember how you told me, you never get to have any fun.

HANNAH: No.

AMY: That your life is just a boring series of boring events punctuated by an occasional burst of Katie drama or a fight in gym class. Well, that is all about to change, Hannah. I'm kidnapping you.

HANNAH: You're what?

AMY: Yeah. We're gonna go paint the town, blow off a little steam.

HANNAH: But-But I have-have a quiz in American History.

AMY: So you can make it up.

HANNAH: No, Mr. Grinali doesn't do makeups and the quizzes are like 50% of the grade so I'm not just gonna...

[Amy opens the bathroom stall door and pulls Hannah out with her.]

AMY: Come on let's get your stuff.

HANNAH: Amy? I never got to pee.

HANNAH: We could go bowling?

AMY: Pass.

HANNAH: What about the railroad museum?

EPHRAM: Please take off that hat. You're scaring me.

[Hannah takes off the hat.]

HANNAH: Sorry.

[Ephram takes a left.]

AMY: What are you doing? We can't go down here. Someone might see us.

EPHRAM: Well, where else are we gonna go. Already been everywhere in this town twice.

HANNAH: What is that?

[Hannah sees Louise blowdrying the moose head outside the Brown and Abbott Medical office.]

EPHRAM: Yeah, this sucks. If we were in New York, we could go down to Chelsea Piers, maybe hit the Village.

AMY: Well, we're not so shut up.

EPHRAM: Go to the park, check out all the freaks.

HANNAH: You could always take me back to school.

AMY and EPHRAM: No!!

HANNAH: So happy to be kidnapped by the Bickersons.

AMY: He's the one who's fighting.

EPHRAM: I'm not fighting, all right, I'm just frustrated. It's almost noon and we're still in the frikken' car.

HANNAH: I know who would know what to do today?

[Cut to Clerk's office - Bright is sitting at his desk. It is 11:34am. He gets an email. He opens it. A picture of Amy and Ephram pop up on his screen with a message.]

BRIGHT: (reading the email) Look up.

[Bright looks up and sees his boss, Mr. Perch, and Hannah coming towards his desk. Hannah is upset.]

HANNAH: (upset) It's Mr. Jingles. There's been a terrible accident. I-I was backing out of your driveway and Jack Johnson came on so I was looking down at the radio and I just... I never even saw him. I am so sorry.

BRIGHT: Oh my God.

MR. PERCH: If you want to take some personal time, I can get Lena to cover for you.

BRIGHT: Oh, yeah. Yeah, that'd be great. Thank you, Mr. Perch. You are a stand-up guy.

[Bright grabs his coat and he takes Hannah and walks out of the office toward the elevator sadly.]

[Cut to the hallway - Bright and Hannah are heading for the elevator.]

BRIGHT: Mr. Jingles?

[The elevator opens and Jillian is there.]

JILLIAN: Hey gorgeous. You going to lunch?

BRIGHT: Uh, no, umm, funeral. Family friend. I'm probably not gonna be back, so...

JILLIAN: Oh, I'm sorry. Did you need to cancel tonight?

BRIGHT: Tonight? Ah, no, I'm still on. Just give me a call?

JILLIAN: Abso-tootely.

[Jillian walks on and Bright and Hannah enter the elevator.]

DR. ABBOTT: I most certainly did not.

EDNA: Page 3. Lab Orders. Didn't need a computer to catch that one.

[Dr. Abbott takes out his pen to sign. Dr. Hartman is getting on his jacket to leave for the day.]

DR. HARTMAN: All right, I'm outta here.

EDNA: Hang on. You're leaving me with him.

DR. HARTMAN: Yeah, it'd be good for you, Edna. Quality time with your kids is hard to come by.

EDNA: Not if you don't want it.

DR. HARTMAN: You're a doodle. Enjoyed it, Hal.

DR. ABBOTT: Yeah.

DR. HARTMAN: You two have a great weekend.

[Dr. Hartman smiles and leaves.]

DR. ABBOTT: In by 10 out by 3. Hope you two don't keel over from all the hard work.

EDNA: Well, you're just jealous. The man runs a tight ship.

DR. ABBOTT: Easily done when one has no patients.

EDNA: No patience is what I got for you.

DR. ABBOTT: Rest assured, Mother, as soon as I'm finished with Mrs. Ewing and her psoriasis, I will be out of here as fast as my feet can carry me.

Fade in - Hannah, Amy, Ephram, and Bright walking along railroad tracks in the snow. The time is 3:29pm.]

EPHRAM: I wish I was 21. That way we could actually be doing something fun. Like going to a bar and playing pool.

AMY: I thought you guys went to a bar to see Madison play.

EPHRAM: First of all, it wasn't a bar, it was a coffee house. Second of all, she wasn't there. Okay?

AMY: Thanks for stating that fact.

HANNAH: Guys, you're giving me a migraine.

BRIGHT: Amen to that. Hey, don't get me wrong, all right, I love the madness, it's just your problem is you have no method to your madness. All right, truancy is serious business, it's not for amateurs, little grasshoppers.

EPHRAM: Well, I don't see you coming up with any great ideas, rabbit hunting?

BRIGHT: Don't mock, gun play, cause I also came up with poker, wurleyball, polar bear. You guys shot all that down.

AMY: I'm not gonna jump into a lake when it's 30 degrees out, Bright.

BRIGHT: All right, it's 3:30. I got exactly 2 hours until I pick up Jillian.

EPHRAM: Isn't fraternizing with a co-worker like illegal?

BRIGHT: (laughs) Look, I don't know what you just said, man, but it's not like we're frat brothers.

HANNAH: We could go ice fishing.

BRIGHT: I like that idea.

HANNAH: Yeah, my dad and I used to go all the time when I was a little girl. There's all these lakes in Minnesota where we live and we had our own little shack with a cot and a stove. He used to make this, uh, hot chocolate with cinnamon. It was the best.

BRIGHT: You must miss your folks, huh? How long have they been in China?

EPHRAM: Hong Kong.

HANNAH: Actually, they're not in Hong Kong. They're still in Minnesota.

AMY: Hannah?

HANNAH: My dad's sick. He's had Huntington's disease since I was eight and it's really bad now so they sent me here so I wouldn't have to be around, y'know, for the end.

EPHRAM: What your dad is dying?

[Everyone is silent.]

HANNAH: (nods) Uh, it's a brain disease so it takes a long time to, y'know. I've been writing to him since I got here every week. He can't read any of 'em, but it makes me feel better somehow, y'know, connected.

EPHRAM: Why didn't you tell us before?

HANNAH: I don't know, I guess I just figured I didn't want to bum everyone out in the beginning. Y'know but I figured now...

[Bright walks over to Hannah and gives her a huge hug. He gives her a caring embrace.]

BRIGHT: I'm so sorry.

HANNAH: Sorry, I didn't mean to.

[Hannah runs off crying. Amy runs after her leaving Bright and Ephram.]

AMY: Hannah.

HANNAH: (inside) I'm fine, Amy.

AMY: You're not fine. You're crying. I can hear you sniffling from out here. I'm gonna stay out here until you let me in.

[Hannah opens the door and Amy goes in.]

AMY: (CONT'D) Omigod, this place is disgusting.

HANNAH: Try not to touch anything.

AMY: Are you okay?

HANNAH: No. I'm a horrible, evil, sick person who doesn't deserve to be loved.

AMY: Well that's true.

HANNAH: No, I'm serious. I can't believe I just did that. How can you even look at me?

AMY: Hannah, you've been carrying this around for a long time. You were just getting it off your chest. All you did was tell the truth.

HANNAH: Yeah, but for the wrong reason. I just played the tragedy card and it was totally manipulative and I hate myself.

AMY: Nobody knows why you said it.

HANNAH: Yeah, well, I do. Because I wanted Bright to feel bad for me and then like me.

AMY: Yeah, but I don't even think Bright's capable of being manipulated. He does whatever he wants anyways.

HANNAH: I just...just hate how jealous I get of all those other girls. And I know he's never gonna look at me the way he looks at them so I feel like I have to just find some other way in, but this was just, gah, so wrong. I-I feel like I should just go to church and throw down some Hail Mary's or something.

AMY: I'll pitch that idea to the boys. Seriously, Hannah, you are so much cooler than all those girls combined. Jealousy is just such a pointless emotion. Just a complete, total waste of energy.

HANNAH: Really, so you never feel jealous of Madison.

AMY: That's different. She's an ex.

HANNAH: Well, you're right, it is different, because you have nothing to be jealous about, since Ephram is your boyfriend and is totally in love with you.

AMY: Yeah, that's why we spent half the day fighting.

HANNAH: Okay, you know what, that's because you are like 50% of the problem when it comes to that.

AMY: Hannah, even if that's true, you're not supposed to say it.

HANNAH: I know that you forgave Ephram for the whole Madison thing in theory, but you-you're gonna really have to forgive him. Because if you don't, this passive aggressive thing is gonna break you guys up for real and I know you don't want that, Amy.

AMY: I thought I came in here to help you.

HANNAH: And then I turned it around. I'm tricky like that.

AMY: Come here.

[They hug.]

NINA: I think you have a real problem, Andy. I don't mean you and Amanda necessarily. I mean in general. Have you ever thought about what you've been doing since Julia died? Dating-wise, I mean?

DR. BROWN: I'm not sure I understand the question.

NINA: It just seems to me that you've made it your mission to seek out unavailable women. Dr. Trott, who you knew was never gonna stay in one place. Linda and now someone with a husband. It's like you can't get involved unless you know the relationship has no future.

DR. BROWN: Well, I didn't know that Linda was sick. Not at first.

NINA: You knew Amanda was married. I'm not trying to pick a fight. I'm-I'm just trying to tell you as a friend that you need to check in with yourself. You need to think about what you're doing and why you're doing it or you could wind up all alone permanently.

DR. BROWN: Yeah. Maybe I'm supposed to be alone.

NINA: What?

DR. BROWN: Most people don't get as lucky as I was with Julia. And I screwed that up so maybe I deserve to be alone.

NINA: I don't believe that and I don't think you believe that.

DR. BROWN: I don't know. I was a pretty lousy husband.

NINA: Yeah and you're a really crappy dad too but you turned it around. People change, Andy, all the time and you deserve to be happy and if you are preventing yourself from letting that happen. Well, I'm sorry, but I just can't let you do that.

DR. BROWN: No.

NINA: No. And you don't need to punish yourself just consider it time served. Go fall in love with someone who can really love you back. The way that you should be loved.

BRIGHT: See what I don't get is why her parents would send her away. Y'know, I mean if your dad was dying wouldn't you want to be there.

EPHRAM: Probably. I don't know, maybe not.

BRIGHT: Yeah, I don't know either, man. Damn.

[Bright hops up and sits beside Ephram.]

EPHRAM: Yeah, it's like there's no silver lining. She stays and she sees her dad die a horrible death. She leaves and she feels guilty for the rest of her life. She's screwed either way.

BRIGHT: Okay, well, Hannah doesn't need us to throw her a little pity party here so...

EPHRAM: Y'know, life just sucks. It never ceases to amaze me.

BRIGHT: Dude, buzz kill. If you're gonna slash your wrists, just give me the heads up, okay.

EPHRAM: No, I mean seriously. Seriously think about it. Think about the three of us. Me and my mom. You guys and Colin. Now Hannah. It's like tragedy's the only thing we have in common. It's practically the reason we're friends.

BRIGHT: So? Y'know, at least we all found each other. We are friends.

EPHRAM: But the point is we got screwed. We're-We're-We're like way older than it says on our drivers' license. I mean most kids our age don't have to go through the kind of stuff that we're going through. That's why most kids our age know how to throw a proper ditch day.

[Ephram gets up and walks toward his car.]

BRIGHT: Hey, you know what, I've thrown plenty a proper ditch days in my time. And I would have turned today around if you guys would have let me.

[Bright gets up and follows him.]

BRIGHT: (CONT'D) The truth is, Ephram, there is a silver lining. You just fail to see it. I think that's part of your problem.

EPHRAM: Thank you, Dr. Phil.

BRIGHT: No, seriously, you came here on your first day, you met Amy. 'Cause you're all wiggy, in love with her, it takes your mind off what probably would have been a pretty nightmare year.

[Ephram sits on the hood of his car.]

EPHRAM: I was not wiggy.

BRIGHT: And because of what you went through with your mom, you were able to help her - Amy - out with the whole Colin thing went down and now Hannah just randomly moves in next door to you. Dude, we can help her with this thing. If that's not lucky, I don't know what is.

EPHRAM: You think we're lucky.

BRIGHT: Hell, yeah, I do. I do. I do think we're lucky. I also think that we are young. You may not feel like it all the time, but you are. So if you want to have a little fun, just nut up and do something about it.

EPHRAM: Okay, next ditch day'll be better.

BRIGHT: Screw that, we've got plenty of day left.

EPHRAM: What, it's like 5 o'clock. It's too late.

BRIGHT: Ah, my ass. Get in the car.

[Bright starts to walk around to the driver's side.]

EPHRAM: What about the girls?

[Bright honks the horn for the girls and Ephram gets up and walks around to the passenger side to get in.]

DR. ABBOTT: Well, I suppose I should get going.

EDNA: You got the time, I'd buy ya a drink.

DR. ABBOTT: Oh, that sounds good, I honestly don't think I have the energy to go out.

[Dr. Abbott gets up and turns off the TV. Edna gets up and pulls a letter opener out of her pen holder and heads to the back office.]

EDNA: You may not have to.

[Dr. Abbott follows Edna into a back office. She starts opening up a space in the wall.]

DR. ABBOTT: I should fix these ceiling cracks at some point. Rain. What are you? What are you doing? Mother.

[Edna opens up the wall and pulls out some liquor and two glasses.]

EDNA: Right where the old kook left it.

DR. ABBOTT: Is that Dad's Glenfiddich?

[Edna hands Dr. Abbott the bottle.]

EDNA: He always was partial to a single malt.

DR. ABBOTT: How long has this been in there?

EDNA: Oh, going on 20 years, I'd guess. He kept it around for emergencies and special occasions. I say this one's both.

[Edna hands Dr. Abbott a glass. Dr. Abbott pours them each some.]

EDNA: (CONT'D) To beefsteak when you're hungry, whiskey when you're dry, to all the girls you'd ever want and heaven when you die. Cheers.

[They clink their glasses and drink.]

DR. ABBOTT: Seems like another lifetime doesn't it? You and I working in this office together. Dad marching around barking out orders. You remember how terrified I was in the beginning.

EDNA: You couldn't start an IV to save your life. Or draw blood.

DR. ABBOTT: You know, I've never been comfortable with the piercing procedures.

EDNA: What'd I tell ya? Pinch slap...

DR. ABBOTT: and stab. I remember. You were very patient with me. Both of you were. We were a good team once. You and I.

EDNA: Yep. Sure were.

DR. ABBOTT: Thanks for staying today, Mother.

EDNA: Junior, I wouldn't've had it any other way.

[They sit quietly and drink.]

BRIGHT: Yes, you are. Here we go. Ready?

EPHRAM: How do I steer?

BRIGHT: You don't have to worry about it. One. Two.

EPHRAM: I'm gonna hit your truck.

BRIGHT: Three.

[Bright pushes Ephram and Ephram takes off down the hill. Amy and Hannah laugh. Then Bright takes off down the slope on his stomach on a sled. Ephram and Amy go down together. Bright picks up Hannah. They are laughing and having fun and playing in the snow. When they are finished, they run down to the bottom of the hill where the cars are.]

HANNAH: This is so much fun.

BRIGHT: Oh, dude, Ephram, when you hit my truck that was so hilarious.

EPHRAM: Oh, yeah, maybe for you.

[Bright's cell phone goes off. He pulls it out of his pocket and looks.]

HANNAH: That's probably Jillian.

BRIGHT: Yep.

HANNAH: Hurry up before it goes to voicemail.

BRIGHT: Aah, I can skip it. I can go to a movie any night. One more run on the hill, little lady.

HANNAH: Me?

BRIGHT: Double decker to the top, unless you're too chicken.

HANNAH: Your sad attempt at reverse psychology is not going to work on me, Bright. Race you to the top.

[Hannah takes off up the hill and Bright races after her. Amy and Ephram watch them.]

EPHRAM: This actually wasn't half bad.

AMY: I know.

EPHRAM: Who knew sledding could be so much fun.

AMY: Uh, huh, Bright, man, he's good at that stuff.

EPHRAM: I'm sorry I was such a downer today.

AMY: You weren't. You were just being you. On ten, but since I love you I'm okay with that.

EPHRAM: Really? You still love me?

AMY: Weird, I know.

[They smile at each other.]

AMY: (CONT'D) I feel kinda bad for loading up the party wagon today. We never actually got any time together. Or together time.

EPHRAM: Well, it's never too late.

AMY: What about them?

EPHRAM: Oh, they have a car. We have a car.

AMY: This is true. [Ephram motions for them to head to his car so Amy and Ephram take off toward his car.]

[Cut to Nina's house - Hannah is in her bedroom writing in her journal. The time is 10:40pm.]

HANNAH'S VOICE: Friday, January 28th, 2005. Dear Dad, I'm too tired to write much tonight.

[Cut to scene where Hannah is on the hill with Bright about to slide down.]

HANNAH'S VOICE: (CONT'D) But it's amazing how the smallest things can change your whole outlook. I guess all you need to know that today was the perfect day.

[Bright and Hannah sit on the sled and Bright pushes them off.]

^ Could not resist posting all of those. They are fabulous.

Also, the mountains were literally a character in this excellent episode. What breaktaking mountain scenes throughout. If we can see how gorgeous Utah is on the screen, imagine what the actors experienced together filming in Utah. No wonder the cast was so close. They must have had such great times together. Majestic beauty.

I absolutely loved this incredibly heartwarming episode, which brought us back to the core of what made Everwood so unique and special – The themes of love, friendship, and family, as the lives of some of our favorite characters intersected in a wonderful way in what for some of them was the perfect day.

I really enjoyed seeing all these characters over the course of a day, and how they switched back and forth, telling different stories as the day wore on.

We saw Bright walk in to the Abbott house with his new “girlfriend” of the day, week or month, Jillian, a co-worker that he introduced to his “punk sister” Amy, and then Hannah walked in, and jealous, she told Jillian that she thought her name might be Barbie. Amy then told Hannah to “breathe” as her infatuation with Bright continued, and Hannah made a remark about Bright liking perfect looking women, and she tried to feign indifference, but Amy knew she was upset.

Amy mentioned that Ephram’s audition tape for Julliard was done, and that her nightmare was officially over and that Ephram's probably just hanging out, relaxing, with a big old smile on his face, but back at the Brown house, Ephram, being Ephram, was obsessing over which tape to send in with Andy, but this father and son moment was interrupted by the Hawaii Five-O theme song, which Andy had set as a ringer for phone calls from Amanda, ruining the moment as he stepped outside to talk to her. My stomach turned as Amanda planned to come home early without Charlie and pick her up at the airport and take the day off so they could continue their illicit affair.

We then saw Ephram pick up Amy in his car and he suggested that they ditch school, setting off a day of adventure for them.

We saw an elated Harold walking to work with Louise as Harold was overjoyed that Andy wouldn’t be in the office that day, but his elation immediately ended when he opened his office door and he found that the waterline had frozen and burst, and this set off a very different type of adventure for Harold.

We saw Ephram and Amy at the diner teasing each other, but they quickly ran out of ideas for their “ditch day” and Amy decided that they needed backup.

Andy decided to bring Amanda to his house after he picked her up at the airport, thinking that the coast was clear, but Nina observed Amanda going into Andy’s house, and she confronted Andy about his openly having an affair with a married woman, and that somewhere along the line she (Nina) had stopped being his best friend and that he had taken up homewrecking, and for the first time since she knew him, she wished that she didn’t know him. The plot quickly thickened as Andy saw a robe clad Jake coming out of Nina’s house, and Andy looked shocked and dismayed, but he had no one to blame for this turn of events but himself.

We saw Harold ask Edna to borrow Jake’s office so he could treat some of his patients, but Edna refused, only to be overruled by Jake.

We saw Andy complain about Nina and Jake to Amanda, and how Nina looked down on him for having an affair with her, and Amanda tried to alleviate his guilty feelings about their affair, but those feelings weren’t going away.

We saw Amy “kidnap” a reluctant Hannah and then they “kidnapped” Bright when Hannah went to his office and she tearfully told him that she had accidentally run over “Mr. Jingles,” and Bright, going along with the ruse, took up his boss’ offer to take some personal time, and he told Jillian that he had to go to a funeral but that he would see her tonight.

We saw Harold and Edna bickering as Jake left for the day but then a woman came in with a bunch of sick kids, one of who threw up on Harold’s shoes, and mother and son were forced to work together.

Back at the den of iniquity, Amanda suggested to Andy that they go to Vermont the following weekend and that it would be her treat, but Andy said that their going away together would be a big step for them, but Amanda unreasonably said that she wanted more from their relationship and from Andy than she was getting, ignoring the fact that she was still married, and she left in a huff.

I liked seeing Bright, Hannah, Ephram and Amy walking along and enjoying each other’s company, but then Amy got in another dig about Ephram going to see Madison, and both Bright and Hannah were tired of hearing about it.

We then saw Hannah tell everyone the truth about her father and the reason she had come to Everwood, and we saw Bright embrace Hannah and he said he was sorry, but Hannah turned away from him crying as she was ashamed of herself for telling everyone about her father to elicit a sympathetic response from Bright.

We saw Nina venting about Andy to Jake, and Jake realized that Andy was the “high school guy” that she had feelings for but who she couldn’t tell her feelings to, and Jake told her that Andy was a surgeon and those guys are all ego, and that they had a tendency to put themselves first, and when Nina apologized to him, he said that she needed to straighten things out with Andy.

I liked the conversation that Hannah and Amy had as Hannah admitted that she told the story about her father so that Bright would feel sorry for her and like her, and that she was jealous of all the other girls that she saw Bright with and that she knew that he would never look at her the way he looked at them, so she decided to try another way to get him to notice her and pay attention to her. I liked that she called Amy out for continuing to berate Ephram about going to see Madison, and just like how Amy told her she had no reason to be jealous of the other girls that she had seen Bright with, Amy had no reason to be jealous of Madison, and that while Amy had given lip service to forgiving Ephram, she really hadn’t forgiven Ephram, but she really needed to forgive him and stop her passive-aggressive behavior with him, or else they would break up, and Hannah knew that Amy didn’t want that, and her and Amy hugged each other.

I loved how Harold and Edna worked together as a team to treat all those patients, and the years of resentment that had built up between them seemed to melt away, if only for a short while, and I love seeing Edna smile at Harold.

I liked Andy and Nina’s conversation as she followed Jake’s advice to make amends with him, and I loved her honesty with Andy as she asked him to look at what he had been doing dating-wise since Julia died, and it seemed to her that he was making it his mission to seek out unavailable women like Dr. Trott, and Linda, and now Amanda, and that he couldn’t get involved with anyone unless the relationship had no future, and that he needed to check in with himself and if he continued what he was doing he might end up all alone, but Andy, still punishing himself for the way he had neglected Julia during their marriage, said that maybe he deserved to be alone because he had a good thing going with Julia and he screwed it up, but she told him that he deserved to be happy and to stop punishing himself and to fall in love with someone who could really love him back.

I loved the conversation that Bright and Ephram had about Hannah, and I loved how this scene perfectly illustrated the differences between these two young men, as the ever dour Ephram talked about how life had dealt them a bad hand and that tragedy was the only thing they had in common, and that they all had to deal with what they had to deal with, but Bright, ever the optimist, said that at least they all found each other and that they were all friends, and that there was a silver lining in everything that happened and that Ephram just didn’t see it, and that Ephram’s experience with losing Julia enabled him to help Amy through losing Colin, and that they could help Hannah get through what she was having to go through with dealing with her father’s fatal illness. I loved seeing Bright’s optimistic spirit in this scene, and I loved seeing a side of him that we didn’t get to see too frequently as he was often used for comic relief on the show.

I loved seeing the mutual respect and admiration that Edna and Harold showed each other as they finished treating all of those sick patients as they shared a drink from a bottle of Glenfiddich Single Malt Scotch that his father kept hidden for emergencies and special occasions, as they toasted “to beefsteak when you're hungry, whiskey when you're dry, to all the girls you'd ever want and heaven when you die. Cheers”. I loved seeing them reminisce about how he started working with his father and her and how terrified he was in the beginning, but that they were both patient with him, and he thanked her for staying, and she said that she wouldn’t have it any other way, and I cried watching that scene, and I’m crying writing about it now.

We saw Andy go to see Amanda and she admitted that she was a married woman and she wasn’t acting that way, and I hoped that she would have ended their affair right then and there, but Andy, ignoring Nina’s advice, told her that he didn’t want to stop seeing her and he wanted everything that they could have together.

I loved the final scene with Ephram, Amy, Hannah, and Bright, just having fun, and I loved that Bright ignored Jillian’s phone call to spend more time with Hannah and everyone else. I also loved Ephram and Amy final conversation as he apologized for being such a downer that day but she said that he was “just being you, but that’s okay because I love you”. I also loved seeing Hannah’s journal entry as she wrote to her father and she said that it was amazing how the smallest things could change your entire outlook and that today had been the perfect day.

Overall, I absolutely loved this episode, minus the Andy and Amanda parts, and I thought it was one of the best episodes of the season.

It's so easy to find amazing dialogue in all the episodes. Exchanges are often priceless!

I can just picture you sitting there crying and teresa coming into the room and saying, "Everwood again?" This development was really heartwarming and so vital for both Edna and Harold, but mostly for Harold who really needs as much positive reinforcement and love in his life that he can get....especially from his mother!

I just don't get it!! Andy was filled with guilt the entire episode and was also lectured by Nina. I honestly thought that this all sank in and Andy was ready to break it off with Amanda. The fact that it was Amanda who wanted to break it off and not Andy blows my mind!

Whenever I watch an episode of Everwood, Teresa always says "did you cry?" and I usually have to answer yes! I loved seeing the mutual love and respect that Harold and Edna had for each other in that scene.

I didn't understand it at all either. Andy did the opposite of what Nina advised him to do, and he was continuing to engage in an illicit relationship with a married woman that had no possibility of a future.
