S'appenin everyone?

The Confederations Cup should be enjoyable. However, it's not enough. I hate the summers without a World Cup or a European Championship. I need my football fix! The English league doesn't start until August, and the Norwegian league is just sad to watch.

Cristina Ronaldo
Glad I won't be seeing his horrible whining face as much anymore. And that transfer fee... Just ridiculous. It's a joke. The working man's game, eh? Sad the way football's turning out.

Isn't this super? It's like old times....everyone is here. I thought that I was hallucinating and I was on the wrong page! Then I realized that it was page one and it was real.

I feel your pain, Matty. That is a definite long wait for you. Of course, you can always watch the MLS.

Yeah, that is unbelievable. How could anyone be worth that much? Is he that good?

Wow. I had to pinch myself when I saw this post. It's been too long.

I actually watched the third period of game 7. It's the first time I've watch hockey on tv in a loooong time, but I was glad I did. The final 7 minutes was certainly exciting. And I'm glad to see my Penguins finally returning to winning form.

Alex and Michelle! So great to see you two. x2.

Congrats! You bums. Hee! I really liked watching all the interviews with the Pens last night. I think CBC up here interviewed every single player. Fleury's was the best. One of our interviewers asked him what was going through his head at the end and Fleury went something like "Holy oh..sorry" Hee. It was very cute. Matt Cooke was also really great, he had his son (who looks exactly like him) and the interviewer asked his son what he thought about his dad winning, and the kid got a big smile on his face and said, "I skipped school!" Hee. Lots of great guys and talent on that team. Seeing Mario hoisting the cup again to a huge roar from the crowd was also very very cool.

Matty. My dad agrees with you completely on Ronaldo. He thinks it's ridiculous too. Not the kind of money that guys got when he was a kid, to say the least. The money he gets per week, or will get per game is astronomical.

That's right. That 80 million all goes to Manchester U. Now Ronaldo has to negotiate a weekly salary with Real Madrid. Can't wait to see what that will be.

They're talking about £250,000 a week! He'll be by far the best earning player in the world. Liverpool's biggest earner gets £120,000 a week, and I've heard of players getting £150k. But £250k!!! Jesus.

He's a good player like, but this is just sick.

I played with the nubers a bit... If he has a six day work week, and puts in 8 hours a day, he'll be earning £5200 per hour. Or £1,44 each second.

I don't get 250,000 a decade. This is ! Of course, I was always a terrible football/soccer player, so maybe that's why I'm not getting paid the big money, hee.

Not being a follower of soccer/football, this is what I've thought of each time I've seen or heard Ronaldo's name come up over the past few days.

Game 5 tomorrow! And I...clearly have nothing of any substance to say today. Apologies.

Hee, Cake Wrecks is love.

The game starts at 8 Eastern/7 Central. And a little part of me is still sort of hoping for an Orlando win, just so the Lakers could then win the championship at home. But that's probably not a good way to think, because then we'd probably wind up with the Magic winning three straight, heh.

Yeah, be careful what you wish for, because I was hoping to see Detroit win at home last night, and we all saw how that one turn out.

Ah, it's Saturday. I don't have the energy for anything substantial either, hee.

Hey Alan, it has been way too long.

Oh yes, those final minutes were enough to make me want to climb a wall. I was at a casino watching it Friday night (with tivo recording it for future analysis if the Pens pulled it out ) and my heart was about ready to jump out of my chest when Detroit scored to bring it within 1 goal. I thought for sure this was it, they were going to score another one rather quickly and they almost did! Fleury was outstanding as usual. I really think if Detroit would have tied it even with the crowd being a huge factor, with Crosby so injured, I believe Detroit would have won it had they tied it up because I think Pitt was off a bit offensively the minute Crosby got hurt. Well, I shouldn't necessarily say that... I just mean I would have felt more confident with a healthy Crosby should it have gone to a tie with Pitt needing another goal. Thank God they didn't!

Tos, I thought of you so much while watching the game. *will get to the pms verrrrrrrrrrrrrrrry soon* Hee. You know I like Detroit as well but Pitt is so much a part of my blood ties on my moms side so it was so refreshing to see them win it. You are so right about seeing Mario. I LOVE MARIO!

Malkin is the MVP but IMO Pitt NEVER would have pulled off this upset in game 7 without Fleury. That's what I think this series really boiled down to. Goalie. Fleury was the better goalie, or I should say the goalie who stopped so many amazing shots that if he wasn't exactly on top of his game when he absolutely had to be, there was no way Pitt would have won the Stanley Cup. Even the few saves he made at the end of game 7! I was like WOW. I would love to just strictly watch all together all of the saves he made throughout this series. Incredible stuff. However I am satisfied with Malkin getting the MVP because if you look throughout the entire playoff run who DEFINITELY did the most as far as even getting Pitt into position for the game 7 in the finals, oh it was Malkin, surely. This guy is absolutely phenomenal. And for Pitts coach to get this Cup after only 4 and some months is amazing in itself.

I am sort of in the middle as far as what I think of Alex O of Washington. I find him sometimes way too hyper for my liking and I love the classy, smooth, no nonsense Crosby soooooooooooooo much better when it comes to personality alone... but these are the two superstars of the NHL right now. Crosby and Alex. However, IMO the minute Crosby was lifting that beautiful Cup is the minute Crosby is now a bit separated and in his own league. He now has what Alex O doesn't have yet. I kind of like this being a huge Crosby fan and huge Pitt fan for obvious reasons. Hee.

Lastly, Hossa... my God, what an idiot.

Penguins Parade Could Be First Of Many For Steel City
By REUTERS
Published: June 13, 2009
Filed at 7:13 p.m. ET

Pittsburgh was busy planning a parade for their Stanley Cup champion Penguins on Saturday which could be the first of many to come for the Steel City.

With the core of their team just barely old enough to legally drink the champagne being chugged in their dressing room following a gritty 2-1 Game Seven win over Detroit that clinched the Cup on Friday, the Penguins appear well positioned to take a run at many more championships.

When 21-year-old Sidney Crosby, who stills lives in team owner Mario Lemieux's guest house, skated forward to accept the treasured trophy from NHL commissioner Gary Bettman he became the youngest captain to hoist the Stanley Cup.

But the Canadian is not even the youngest player on a talent-laden roster that forms the nucleus of what many believe could develop into the next NHL dynasty.

Jordan Staal, who scored a shorthanded goal in Game Four that shifted the series momentum to Pittsburgh, is just 20 while resilient netminder Marc-Andre Fleury is a battle-hardened 24.

Evgeni Malkin, who led both the regular season and playoffs in scoring and collected Conn Smythe trophy honors as the Stanley Cup MVP, is just 22 and next week could add the Hart trophy as the NHL's most valuable player to his haul.

"That's a great thought," laughed Penguins coach Dan Bylsma when asked if the Penguins' Cup win was just the start of something special. "That's a great thought and it's a dream.

"But there's a lot of hard work and building and laying a foundation every year that goes into every year.

"It doesn't happen without building that foundation on day one and day two. They just don't hand you a trip to the Stanley Cup Finals again the second year.

"So we're going to enjoy this one...and come September we'll start building the foundation again for what this team could possibly do."

A dynamic, forward-thinking coach, who was working in the minors at the start of the season, Bylsma has proven to be a perfect fit for the young Penguins.

Taking over the floundering squad in mid-February from sacked Michel Therrien, Bylsma guided Pittsburgh into the playoffs with an 18-3-4 run to close the regular season.

He then skillfully steered Pittsburgh through four best-of-seven series, becoming just the 14th rookie coach to put his name on a Stanley Cup.

"I had dreams about this," said Bylsma. "I hoped this would happen some day. But good coaches have coached a long time and never gotten an opportunity like this.

"A lot of times your first opportunity doesn't come with a team that's this talented or this group of players.

"But I'll take the opportunity. I believed I worked hard enough and was prepared for the opportunity."
Amazing how Crosby still lives with Mario. So awesome and even adorable.

Also, it IS scary how young these core players are! Crosby, Fleury, Malkin to name a few. They really could contend for years to come.

It was said by one of the analysts on CBC after the game, and again by one of their interviewers, that we could very possibly see another Detroit/Pens final next year. Detroit has been the closest thing to an NHL dynasty in the last decade and that doesn't look like it's going to stop anytime soon. The Pens, with a young core and some good cap management, could very well be that too. It would be insane if we had three of the same finals in a row, and I'm thinking it's not likely, but I do think a dynasty in the East (Pens) and a dynasty in the West is very possible.

You know what I think about Ovechkin (I want to marry him, in the most hetero way possible, hee!), but I don't think there's much doubt that Crosby is the better player. Defensive, leadership, team play (although I think Ovechkin gets an unfair rep about selfish play, because he's as excited as anyone when his teammates score) are all things that he does better than Ovechkin. And, yes, now the Cup, definitely some further separation. Both of these kids, and Malkin, they are SO good for the NHL. I am fans of every single one of them, and it's too bad that some fans (not talking about you, of course, but some of those online hockey fans that are whacccckkkooo, heh) play them against each other and do all this hating of Crosby or Ovechkin. They're all amazing players, and the only way that the NHL is going to thrive is if they keep being amazing. Root for 'em all, is what I say. I like that the players themselves have a little rivalry going on, but you think of what Ovechkin told Crosby when they did the handshake: he told him to win the Stanley Cup. These guys do respect each other.

Eee, hockey discussion with Michelle! I missed this.

What do you think about all the dramatic changes going on with the Wild?
