Hi guys! Welcome to the new OT2 thread #36!

BepperGirl 06-20-2011 11:33 PM

If you post a list of what you watch, I'm sure Betty or Grant would add your list at the first chance they got :)

I've really got into Robin Hobb's fantasy books. I'm currently 3/4 of the way through Book 1 of the Rain Wilds series and it's excellent. I love her tough female characters who are awesome in spite of all the societal restrictions placed on them. Also, it has dragons in it!
I saw Rio the other day, it was very cute and I loved Linda Hamilton, Blu's owner. She owns a library, is really well-read & reminded me of a more confident Hannah. Tulio, who works at the bird sanctuary in Brazil was adorkable too & I liked that there were certain typically masculine pursuits he had no experience with whereas Linda believably did. It was quite funny, though the thieving monkeys were obviously stolen from the lemurs in Madagascar & weren't nearly as amusing, but then they weren't voiced by Ali G, so that's to be expected really!
Beginners was absolutely excellent. Ewan McGregor is still really pretty to look at and his acting was spot-on, as he said so much with his eyes. Christopher Plummer was brilliant too, as was Melanie Laurent who looked a lot like Stana Katic from Castle when she was wearing a dark wig at the start. I thought the parent-child relationships were really well portrayed and I guess the situation of a gay man getting married to a woman wasn't all that uncommon in the 50's, seeing how homosexuality was considered to be a mental illness.
I'm gutted Season 3 of Glee will only be available on Sky, but I'll follow the recaps/discussions on the relevant sites and get the DVD if I think it sounds worth it, which I'm sure it will be. I will also continue to buy any CDs that come out, especially if they contain Chris Colfer (Kurt) solos/duets. I've really enjoyed Season 2, even though the season ended with a fizzle rather than a bang. I thought Kurt's story of being bullied was excellent, but wish it had been more wrapped up by the end of the 22 episodes. I also want to see more of life at the Hudson-Hummel home, as Carole (Finn's mother) married Kurt's dad early in the Season but we haven't seen her interact with the rest of them at all, which sucks!

You are officially added, Patricia! :)

The obvious question is Pacey/Joey or Dawson/Joey, but any general thoughts would be interesting. I loved me some DC for a long time. Hehe.

Also, while we're editing opening post stuff, I've changed my list to weed out shows that are no longer on or that I no longer care to watch, and added a few.

Alan's new list (for now): Friday Night Lights, Chuck, Castle, Fringe, So You Think You Can Dance, Community, The Vampire Diaries, Being Erica, Psych, White Collar, Warehouse 13, Haven, Covert Affairs, Pretty Little Liars, Falling Skies, Rookie Blue, Game of Thrones, Nikita, Modern Family, Happy Endings, Raising Hope, Parks and Recreation, Lost Girl, Leverage, Rizzoli and Isles, and The Glades.

Parks & Recreation: Season 3, Episode 16

That was the finale, I liked it. Lil' or Li'l Sebastian died, some were sad, me not so much. :look: But I liked the goodbye event, Andy got to sing a new song called "5000 candles in the wind" - he did really well. :) Ron lost his eyebrows due to a unexpected explosive flame. :D Tom partnering with Jean Ralfio is a strange thing, I still don't know what the business is about. And Leslie has to keep her "affair" with Ben a secret. But she got offered the possibility to candidate for the major post - and she said, there's nothing wrong with her life. Ui, but she will have to decided between Ben or her career. :( Looking forward to fall for new episodes, it's only 3 months, that's not that long. :)

Nikita: Season 1, Episode 18

Nice episode, Nikita searched for another black box, with Owen Elliott and Michael on her side, it had some nice action and an interesting storyline. The smaller plot about Alex' questioning by Amanda was interesting, Michael will get into trouble and Percy is now angry - I hope they can keep up the good work in the last 4 episodes.

Dawson's Creek

My only canon het ship I could really get on board with Joey/Eddie with a small dose of Joey/AJ. Slashwise, there was Joey/Audrey and early Joey/Jen. I could never completely ship Joey/Dawson, but that was definitely preferable to Joey/Pacey, which I loathed because I love Pacey/Andie, especially in season 2, far too much.

My ranking of the seasons from best to worst: 2-1-5-3-6-4

I could never forgive the character assassination Andie went through in season 3, but still put a season with her above season 6. Andie is my favourite of everyone, then Jack, then Jen (only time I wasn't keen about her was when she was pining over Dawson in early season 2; it felt beneath her). Pacey had his moments as did Joey, but not when they were together. That never happened.

I knew Pacey/Joey ended up together before I started watching, did not know I was going to grow so attached to Pacey/Andie. I only kinda liked PJ in that one season 1 episode, before I was smitten with Pacey/Andie.

I liked Jack's journey more than the destination of ending up with Doug, which felt cheap to me. At the same time, I'm glad Doug became more comfortable with his sexuality. I don't want to believe they're going to last.

Jen's death in the finale was something I loved, the series began with her as a new girl, she instigates the action. With her death, the action stops. Very full circle. I also loved Dawson getting his dream meeting.

It was great to briefly see Hilarie in her MTV days and it was hilarious her scene was with CMM. Also, I enjoyed spotting Torrey DeVito (aka Melissa Hastings) in her very first role according to IMDb.

I'm glad Joey got her dreams come true with Worthington (hey there, Vinnie VanLowe), but IMO, she didn't get the dream guy.

I shipped Dawson/Jen more than Dawson/Joey.

Audrey was a good addition for the college years.

I really really love Andie and Pacey/Andie. I loved their scene in 4.22 The Graduate where Pacey tells her, and her alone, that he graduated from HS. I also love the line in my sig. They made each other complete.

Mitch getting killed off in season 5 sucked. But it certainly motivated characters for that season.

I had no idea Jackie Florrick was Jen's Grams until I started. I love Jen and Jack's close friendship throughout the show; they were soulmates in my eyes, only to be separated by Jack's sexuality. Toby was a good first boyfriend for Jack.

What is up with this show's obsession with inappropriate student-teacher relations? I mean, I know a lot of shows depict it (PLL and Life Unexpected, to name a couple recent examples), but this show had THREE off the top of my head.

It's a toss up if I like the meta on the show. Sometimes I like it, sometimes it annoys. I am glad not everyone went to the same college, which I feared would happen after Joey's remark in whatever episode that was. But it made sense they'd meet up in Boston on their own paths since it is a college town and by the water.

Very cool to see Sasha Alexander in season 4. She was a bright spot in my least favourite of seasons.

Well, that's what springs to mind right now. Ultimately, I am glad I watched (understanding a lot more cultural references; btw, I've owned both soundtracks since I was a preteen) even though I don't agree with a lot of the end choices, and I know from Michelle that DJ and PA were the original ending. Sucks we didn't get that :(

The Crow 06-21-2011 02:44 PM

Well, obviously I disagree with you since I was a die-hard P/J shipper, but I did enjoy reading your thoughts. I liked Pacey/Andie, and I too thought she suffered horribly in season 3, but from the first of season 3 when Pacey found Joey on the dock, I was on the P/J train, which is odd because all of season 1 I was a die-hard D/J person. Shifting alliances I guess.

My favorite characters were Pacey, then Jen, then Joey, then Jack, then Andie, then Dawson (I guess). I still haven't seen all of season 6. I didn't watch it at all when it aired, except for the series finale.

It's weird to go back and see all the people who were on the show. Hilarie, CMM, Ali Larter, Brittany Daniel, and that's just off the top of my head. I'm sure there were more I'm not thinking of.

Switched At Birth: Season 1, Episode 3

I liked this episode a lot, it was even better than the last episode, it's getting better and better, it could be great, I like the cast, I now like almost every character. Joe McCoy was a football-obsessed dad on FNL - and today he played the basketball-obsessed somewhat father for Daphe, that was nice, cos I didn't like him so far, but today he showed heart, okay, he did not do everything right, he pushed Daphne too far, but it was really nice that he tried. Also one scene with Bay, he tries, it's not easy, even harder with Bay. Liam tried to apologize to Daphne, but what he first said was stupid, he didn't really know what he did wrong, but it's good that he's not the perfect guy, the sunnyboy, he makes mistakes, but he tried and tried (liked how he called her and she could talk to him with her phone, where a tiny guy signed her :D Wow, 2011 has some great stuff going on. :) ). Daphne is great, she's a beautiful and nice girl, but she showed enough depth, she was angry at Liam for not defending her, she was not pleased with John as her basketball coach pushing her and she got angry when Bay asked her about her dad (Bay's dad), but Bay acted insensitive, she said: „He had zero interested in being your dad, he may not feel the same way about me.” WTF should she think about that? That was more than rude, that was mean. She apologized in the end, that was great, but Bay has to act on her behaviour sometimes. At least we got one Bay-Daphne scene, that's nice. Emmet by the way thinks that it's not good to have a hearing bf/gf, I understand his point, he's not totally wrong, it's hard, it's not easy, it's a whole different world as we could see today.

Bay hung out with with Ty, but when she wanted to give him money for his car he rejected her and got angry, that was interesting, Bay has to learn not to act like the rich girl, but Ty should've been more patient, cos Bay wasn't around "poorer" people much, and it wasn't that big of a trouble, at least Tobey had 2-3 scenes with her, I like to see more of him, but he's the middle child without girlfriend, without being switched, without new parent, that's a bit sad that he doesn't get more screentime. Bay wants to meet her dad (I know the actor, and I'm looking forward to that :D ), but Regina said he left when she was born (Daphne, she, whatever) and that was it. But I want to see Bay digging for more infos about her dad, it's her right to wanting to meet him. And I like her painting.

Regina got a job from Kathryn in a barbershop, some back and forth, a little fight about the reasons why she does it and so on, about why the Kennish doesn't want to let the world know about what really happened. But in the end, Denise got told the true story, now everybody will know it soon.

And not to forget the action (?) or better the suing against the hospital, Bay doesn't see the point, I honestly don't do too, cos what does it help the Kennish parents? Do they need the money? No. Do they need to take money away from a hospital for a mistake they made 17 years ago once? Regina could use the money, that's right, but she said she doesn't want it (why we don't know), so I don't know what John wants? Justice or public awareness, I think it has something to do with him being rich and acting like life was unfair to him.

That was it, I liked the episode, but there's still potential for more, cast and characters are a lot of fun, the mix of drama and normal or even funny scenes are something really nice to watch. [This post is that long cos I do post on the SAB-board. :look:]
