Thanks for the new thread, Michelle. I should be sleeping...but got hooked on a soccer match (LA Galaxy). I like watching Beckham and Donovan.

Sweet! What did Beckham do? Cry or pout? Heh.

Penguins celebrate '08-09 Stanley Cup

Pittsburgh Penguins raise 2008-09 Stanley Cup banner before final Mellon Arena opener - ESPN

AP Photo/Gene J. Puskar The Pittsburgh Penguins raised their third Stanley Cup banner to the rafters Friday in the final season opener at Mellon Arena.

PITTSBURGH -- The Pittsburgh Penguins raised their Stanley Cup banner to the rafters before their opener against the New York Rangers on Friday night.

With the Stanley Cup on a table on the ice and the Prince of Wales, Art Ross and Conn Smythe trophies also on display in front of the 119th consecutive sellout at Mellon Arena, the Penguins' players surrounded a trunk containing the banner that represents the franchise's third championship.

Then, they watched as it was raised to a spot just inside the blue line in the end the Penguins shoot at first, about two-thirds of the way to the top of the inside of the steel, retractable dome over the facility.

Players, coaches and members of the front office -- including co-owner and former Hall of Fame player Mario Lemieux -- were introduced in a ceremony that delayed the start of the game by about 20 minutes.

Despite steady rain, hundreds of fans gathered outside the arena to watch the game on a big screen, as many fans did throughout the playoffs last spring.

The home opener is the final one at Mellon Arena, the league's oldest venue, having opened in 1961 and been the Penguins' home since the team's inception six years later. Next season, the Penguins will move to the Consol Energy Center, which is under construction across the street.
Awe. LOL. They won tonight too, holding off the Rangers 3-2. Sid the Kid had one goal and he didn't even interfere with the goalie. Hee.

Do you still think he's gone eventually and going back to Europe to play? Is it that much of a done deal do you think?

Thanks for the new thread, Michelle.

Your first taste of the Wild tomorrow! Or, well, today at this point, but still. And whoever wins, you won't be too upset. Or, I guess, too happy for whoever wins since you like both, heh.

Welcome and hee, that's right! Considering my list of teams to pull for feels like 10 lbs as I am carrying it around.

It's true though. I don't really care either way so maybe I should hope for OT so at least one team gets a point, another gets 2? LOL.

I am checking to see if we get Vancouver today. We better!

So, as per my usual Saturday morning ritual, I was perusing coachesaid.com to check out the Oklahoma high school football scores, and I came upon this score: Deer Creek-Lamont 92 Kremlin Hillsdale 42

How often does a team score 42 points but still lose by 50? It is a Class C game, which means it is 8 man football, but that's still amazing. The most lopsided score I found was Booker T Washington 90 Miami 0, which is quite the thrashing, especially for a 5A matchup.

Thanks for the new thread, Michelle!

Baseball, hockey, college football, so much on today!

Good thing I can watch while I am absorbed inside of my law books and cannot leave the apartment as a result.

I take it you are not hitting that party tonight, Michelle? I saw you said you were going to an early dinner but no party was mentioned though it doesn't surprise me since you hate parties but I thought I should ask.

Not often. LOL. It is rare for a team to score 42 points and not only not win the game but if you are going to lose, you lose like 45-42 or something, not with the other team scoring 92 points. Wow!

Big time domination to the largest degree. Hee. I can imagine a player from the losing team asked randomly how they did... "Oh we lost, we lost pretty big... er by 90 points and, well, we didn't score a single point either... looks like we need to work on a few things in practice." LOL.

Hee, a very correct assumption I am not attending the party tonight. I have also decided to eat dinner at my sisters tonight since my mom is making tons of homemade food (and how can you ever say no to that kind of situation?) but what really sealed the deal was whenever my nieces showed me their pretty blue eyes while asking if I was coming over so I couldn't resist. I can't resist them, ever. Still an early dinner, though, and it will be while watching sports, of course, since my bro-in-law and father are sports obsessed just like I am. Since my sisters house is two minutes from my parents I can slide back here fairly quickly once I spend some time with my nieces and eat my mom's great food so a great deal all around!

You said it about sooooo many different sporting events on today/tonight. Currently, I am watching college football, the Gophers versus Wisconsin downtown of course. There's hockey coming up, more college football since I want to watch Ohio State especially, and baseball as well. Hockey starts pretty soon and I have to check the line up of games that are on. Wild/Columbus on tonight, Canucks on in a couple.

Great sports day!

They keep advertising the Vikes/Pack game Monday tonight during ths Gopher/Badgers game. Hee.

Hockey in 25 minutes. The Canucks usually suck at these afternoon games, so I'm hoping for a different result, obviously. Heh.

ETA: 1st intermission.. Colorado is up. It's okay! Things will turn around, I can feel it. Or I hope. Hee.
