And imagine this scene. Bright finally is about to score. They begin going at it and all of a sudden Bright starts moaning, "Oh Colin!" Laynie freazes and slaps Bright screaming, "What?!!?!?" Fade to commercial. Now of course big time screentime can only come with pairing her off again with a certain whiny someone. Course that would probably end badly again. The show has been emphasizing the "connection" between Amy and Ephraim with all the subtilty of a bull in a garden. That Amy would backstab her best friend seems almost a certainty. Though a far better scenario of course is Amy linking up with Laynie and leaving our whiny little friend to... whine. __________________

Raja - you're priceless! I laughed so hard at the 'Colin' scenario. ... and everything else. - I'm still all for Laynie/whiny little friend though.

First since she'd get more screentime being with one of the main stars of the show. (For better or worse Bright's role on the show is far more minimal). Second Laynie is much more direct, is a lot tougher, and has a lot more spine than Madison. She'd call out our whiny little friend when he started moaping into self-indulgence and self-pity. Even if he exited the relationship with two black eyes and a broken nose he'd be far better off for it. Third because as I said before it would be a trainwreck waiting to happen. Amy HAS to poke her nose in there and ruin everything. And deceit and betrayal are always fun to watch. And when things go down she'll be sure to make little Ephraim PAY. And she won't be pulling any punches with Amy either. Just hopefully she won't run off to boarding school again. __________________

Thanks for starting this thread, Laynie's one of my fav characters on the show. Nora is an amazing actress and I can't wait to see more of her work.

She was acting out alongside Amy and was going through a lot of what Amy went through. I was however a bit disappointed that they never really showed how things were from her side of the fence and how she specifically was reacting to Colin's death. They mainly used her as a sounding board for Amy. The whole pairing scenarios were a bit tongue and cheek but a little bit serious nonetheless. I'm always annoyed that shows I watch are so quick to pair people off. And how sometimes they seem at a loss of what to do with anyone who isn't paired off. It seems like they almost limit themselves in the story they can tell. Everwood seems a lot more creative than that, yet it really hasn't been to a certain extent. The prime example being Bright who it seems they really should be doing more with. And of course our little neglected Laynie. not to defend the writers but: i guess they figured if they mentioned she was on antidepressants then that was enough of "showing how she's doing", they definently should have and should still show more of the harts past the whole dad's alcoholism story line.

Where has Laynie been in the past few eps? Now that Amy has realized her mistake with Tommy they need to bring her back into the picture.
I love the idea of Laynie and Bright..maybe they're saving that for next season. __________________

I guess a lot of it does come down to how central the Hart family is on the show. With the prominence Colin had last season and with Laynie coming back I mistakenly assumed that they would be playing a more prominent (though of course not equal to the Abbotts or Browns) role on the show.
One of the things I do like about the show compared to say Gilmore Girls is how they handle "minor" characters. They don't waste them. When they are brought out they do important things, are fully developped, and shine. When they don't serve a purpose they are literally locked away in cold storage. Which can be annoying in the case of say Nina who disappeared for way too long or Laynie who we of course want to see more screentime for. But it is a better alternative than just having them make silly or stupid cameos. Or giving them badly developped subplots that are blatant throwaways to give them 3 minutes of screentime. But given Laynie's closeness to Amy I still wish they'd make just a bit more room for her. If not for her than for Amy's character who does very badly need a female friend. Especially one like Laynie who has gone through some of the same things she has. [ 04-08-2004: Message edited Raja ] __________________

Raja - Thanks so much for those pictures.
I missed monday's episode. I'm hoping they'll bring Laynie back in soon. Just because they're fighting doesn't mean she fell off the face of the planet. No evil glares in the hallway? Nothing? I'm hoping they'll become friends again soon. I'm not much of a Tommy fan. As for Laynie's relationships, I'd love to see her with Bright or Ephram. |

Stupid question. How old is Laynie supposed to be in relation to everyone else on the show? I always assumed she was Colin's little sister and was the same grade as Ephraim/Amy but I cant recall them ever showing us Laynie in any classes (not that we ever see much of any of them in places beyond outside or the principal/guidance office).
