How would the Everwood Townies handle the current Covid Pandemic?

Hi everyone. As you know, we're in the midst of the COVID Pandemic, which leads me to wonder how the Townies in Everwood, and the main characters that we all know and love, would have handled the COVID Pandemic. What does everyone think?

My thoughts are initially most of the Town would be against vaccines. They wouldn’t want the government telling them what to do, the typical Republican mentality. However, Andy and Harold would educate them on the science of it and in the end, eventually, most would get vaccinated. As far as mask wearing, I actually think if you could convince them of the science, they’d go all the way and get both vaccinated and wear masks. I think it would be funny to see the different types of masks they’d all choose to wear. LOL. I feel like this town was so united in that if you convince one you'd convinced them all as they felt like it was kind of a trend, cool thing to do... be United as one. Which is why they all abandoned Harold together, abandoned Andy with the Colin situation, it was like they all felt strength in numbers and United as one. So I feel like collectively they would come to a decision on this and stick with it. With Andy and Harold educating them on the science, they’d get vaccinated and use masks.

As for businesses and what they’d do about the economy, that is another story all together. I think they’d be smart about it and come up with a safe approach.

Regarding Linda and being into alternative medicine… I am actually into alternative medicine as well. Well, I use traditional and alternative medicine. I feel like one complements the other and the approach is stronger integrating the two. My sister is a top scientist in the Twin Cities so there’s no way I’m ever going against science.

But as for Linda specifically… She had HIV and was using traditional medicines to control the virus from turning into AIDS so I do think at the end of the day she’d be pro-vaccine as a medical doctor and patient with HIV who was using traditional drugs already. Add in her being considered immune-comprised with the HIV so all the more vaccination is important. She knows this as a physician. But I do think she would try to give the people alternative treatments to boost the immune system so if they got the virus they could better handle it with diet, supplements, holistic methods, in addition to the vaccines and traditional medicine.

Jake definitely would be worried about money and his business. That is guaranteed. Andy and Harold, pro-vaccine. Edna, pro- vaccine.

Those are my general initial thoughts.

I think that many of the “good citizens” of Everwood would have been as ignorant about COVID as they were about Linda’s HIV status. I think that many of them would have been Anti-Mask and Anti-Vax, at least initially, despite Harold and Andy’s best efforts to educate them about the seriousness of the matter, but if people started to get sick and die from COVID, they might change their tune. I always felt that many of the townspeople were conservative to the point of being ignorant, so COVID may have really ravaged Everwood initially.

Do you guys think Nina would be on board? Or what about Hannah as a Christian who might take the Carson Wentz approach (who now currently has Covid) due to Christianity? I do think that in the end, Hannah would get the vaccine and be pro-vaccine but she might have some interesting thoughts before making that decision? Maybe?

Another thought that I had is that Everwood was a small town, so any deaths in the town would have a much stronger impact than it does in a larger town or in the United States in general. We all read about COVID cases and deaths every day, but I think that many people become inured to it until it hits home, and it then affects them personally and it changes how they view it. Granted, most rational and thinking people (key words, rational and thinking) are concerned and alarmed about the COVID Pandemic, but I think that all of us become much more concerned and alarmed when members of our family or people in our town (people we know) get the virus, so if some people in Everwood got sick and/or died from the virus, it would change the minds of other people in the town who weren't personally affected by it before.

I think that Nina would be on board with COVID precautions. She's an intelligent and sensible woman. Even if she was still running the restaurant, I think she'd understand the need for precautions. Jake isn't in Everwood anymore in all of my scenarios!

The question about Hannah is different and more complicated because she was ultra-religious, but she's also very intelligent, so I think that common sense would rule and she would get the vaccinations and support the restrictions and the use of masks. Off-hand I can't think of any religious organizations coming out against masking and vaccinations, but I may be wrong about that.

So I could see the town of Everwood just kind of brushing it off until one of them dies from it and then the reality sets in.
My wife and I both like to stay at home anyway and we only go out to dinner occasionally, so this pandemic really hasn't affected us all that much either. Neither one of us is outgoing and I also spend most of my time in my den on my computer. A big plus for me is that I've mostly been able to work from home since the pandemic started, which is great, because it saves me from having a long commute and I also don't have to see the people I work with!

I remember when Jake was rather careless (if I remember correctly) over that patient with a bleeding ulcer. Not saying he's a bad doctor but his personality was such where he went with the flow. I definitely could see him worrying more about money and success over the virus. I remember when Dr. Drew initially downplayed the virus like it wasn't a big deal. He had egg on his face in the end and even admitted as much. I could see Jake just like Dr. Drew and getting burned.

I could maybe see Hannah having a breakdown over the fact that she dodged certain death by not having Huntington's only to have to deal with this now.
^ That's a great thought!

I could see Hannah as more of a Liz Cheney type. Despises the crazy extreme Right but still has common sense, intelligence (well, about vaccination stuff, not about stupid conservative thoughts in general, lol) and would go with science.

I'm thinking that the other members of the "In-Crowd" like Paige and Kayla would not listen and carelessly party. Serves them right if they get Covid!

Regarding Edna.....I agree that she would be gung ho about masking and taking precautions and this would possible cause lots of arguments with Irv. I see him as being a stubborn individual who would have to be constantly reminded to take his Mask!

What do you guys think would happen to Mama Joy's? Generally stay open throughout most of the pandemic? Transition more into a take out/curbside pick up?

I think that Mama Joy's would have been closed initially, but then it would reopen and switch to a take-out/curbside pickup mode like you said Michelle.

I also wonder what they’d do about food. We never saw them in a regular looking grocery store. It always looked like smaller food markets.
