Thanks for the new thread, Michelle!

Let's see this weekend... tomorrow, I have a cashier shift at the holiday retail job from noon to 4:30. Sunday, I'm headed over to my uncle's because my mentor and I are working on a project all day Monday. Other than that, not much!

I had a fun afternoon today though. I met up with a girl from OK Cupid who I think will turn out to be a good friend. Her name is Melanie and goes to grad school in Maine, so she was just home for the holidays. We spent 3 hours in this cute vegan cafe near her that she hadn't been to before, but I had visited with a different girl from OK Cupid a few months ago. Melanie has already e-mailed me since we parted ways and I think the fact that she isn't looking for something (she and her ex broke up a couple months ago after dating for about 8 months) and I'm not looking for something either (because, um, I have started seeing someone...) takes some pressure off and we can just focus on building a friendship, which will primarily be via e-mail since she's headed back to school on Sunday.

Anyway, Melanie and I had a pleasant lunch (she got a beer-battered sandwich with grilled mushrooms and onions over crispy tofu with sweet potato fries; I got crispy eggplant parmesan over a homemade cheesy tomato sauce with garlic bread... to drink, we both had cranberry lattes with almond milk). And then we played Quiddler, a game I got for Christmas from my aunt. I won by TWO points. Afterwards, we had dessert (at first, we were too full, which is why we played the game, so we could digest) and then she dropped me off at my bank so I could deposit some of the Christmas cash money Mom gave me. The bank closes at 3 and we had met just before noon, talking until almost before the bank closed. So yeah, that was a really fun time! It's gonna be great having a new friend to chat things over with while experiencing this new relationship

I think I'm gonna head to the gym soon, so I can get my Nexercise in for the day (Nexercise is an app where I get points for exercising and then I can redeem those points for gift cards to places like Amazon). My phone is now at 62%, which is better than the 18% it was when I got home (and that's primarily thanks to a portable charger Mom got me for Christmas as it was at 4% when I left Melanie -- phone weirdly didn't charge while I had it plugged in at the cafe, it does that sometimes).

Thanks for the new thread Michelle. I like the title !

Betty
I think that in the past the buildings in our country were made with bars. I remember that when I had to apply for dorms in the university, I specifically said that I don't want the first floor because they windows have bars there and I don't want to feel like I'm in prison . I can't help it - that's how I feel.

I have no specific plans for the weekend - I will relax, maybe go to the mall to do some shopping and I got this special pan for pancakes, so I might try it.

Gaby sounds that you had fun with Melanie. It's cool that we can nowadays find people on the net .

Buildings in a city often have bars on their windows....but my school is in a really nice suburban town. Of course, We're not safe anywhere these days!

Gaby, that's awesome and I will get more in detail with my thoughts on PM since I have that response to get to.

Koni, how do eat prepare and eat your pancakes? What do you put on them?

I am catching up on work this weekend and watching sports, especially the pro football playoffs. Tomorrow night I have a birthday dinner/party I might drop by for a bit. I haven't decided yet.

Michelle I agree with Betty but it depends on how you are feeling too. If you are not fine, maybe it will be better to stay home and rest .

How I eat my pancakes? I'm a really boring girl. I like to eat my pancakes without anything. I don't put chocolate or fruit or jam. I like them natural. Just like I prefer the yogurt natural. It's all about natural with me. I even don't like too much salt - it messes up with the taste of the meal I eat.

As for preparation I found this easy mix to prepare them. I just need to add water and it's ready. I don't eat often pancakes so I just wanted to try this. Otherwise it would be of course the full recipe (with milk and not water to the eggs and the flour).

Exactly, it will totally depend on how I feel. The party/dinner is about 20 minutes north or Minneapolis which makes it close to an hour away from where I live. It's also a casual friend, not a close friend. I'll just see how I feel and go from there.

Koni, I love plain pancakes too! I will also eat them with fruit but I love them plain as well. Do you eat anything else with pancakes? Here, we sometimes throw in some breakfast foods alongside the pancakes or it can be a main dish as well.

No I don't eat them with anything else. Pancakes are supposed to be either dessert or breakfast here. However I don't eat more than one course at once as strange as it sounds because I don't want to mix too much foods in my stomach. And I don't want to mix the fruits with other stuff too, so I prefer the pancakes plain. Oh well actually I don't know if you've tried it, but you could add butter to the pancakes right when you get them out of the pan why they are really hot. It sounds fat, but it's not that much, but it makes the flavor better (well at least for me).

It's actually good that it's casual friend. This way if you're not up to it, it won't be strange that you won't be there.

From the old thread -

Quote:
Taryn, as a parent, I'm interested in your opinion regarding what we were talking about on the previous page. Would you prefer to have your children's teachers do a lock down in the classroom, or run outside with them if they are near an exit?
I think it's very important for the school to have a lockdown plan in place, BUT I absolutely would want a teacher who KNOWS they can get the kids to safety even if it means doing something different than the plan, to do so.

Our school had a lockdown situation not too long ago, nothing major but an autistic middle schooler got mad at another student and started throwing desks. The school handled it pretty well, from what the kids told me.

Yes! Sometimes I drizzle butter on the pancakes.

Oh right, so if you are eating carbs with fruit, not good, right? Man, I still have to work on my food groupings because I know I am not doing this right at all!

Precisely. I would never flake on a close friend but since it's a casual friend, whether I attend or not is not a huge deal.

The thing with fruits is that I don't eat them with anything else. They say that fruits are better eaten separate from the other foods. Otherwise they ferment in your stomach and I don't want this. So I try to avoid it at least.

I could help you a bit with the food groupings so if you need, just ask . Carbs are OK with vegetables, but shouldn't be mixed with proteins. Which is why I don't eat salt pancakes (with cheese). I don't like them either btw. I just prefer plain pancakes.

Yeah you need really good reason to flake on close friend (like being really seriously sick). With casual friend a lot of excuses could work.
