The homemade kind, do I like or the store bought? Love both.

When I make the homemade kind the apples are kind of chunky. I deliberately go there, so good! The store bought kind I purchase is soft and smooth. I could get the chunky kind as well but opted for the smooth kind because of the surgery. The homemade kind I also throw in a little cinnamon. Very good.

How is it going?
Okay overall. Same old stuff. Thankfully, nothing dramatic this week given the extraction/surgery.

That's good that the sharp severe pain is over! I hope that soon the soreness will be less!
Thanks. I woke up this morning with continued jaw and neck soreness. But obviously soreness is the key. Don't want sharp pains. If I'm going to get a dry socket, this is the time period I would get that dreaded beast people say is far worse than childbirth. Of course, until you get it packed and treated even though it takes a while to get sorted. Then again, when I had the dry socket with the other one a few years ago, it hurt but not terribly because I was on top of it and got it treated immediately. Just had packings in for about 10 days. Still, I didn't have what so many do when it's so severe you cannot function without a treatment and maybe even two treatments at the same time.

My sister had FOUR dry sockets when she was in high school and had her wisdom teeth out! I remember her showing me the sockets. It was because she got really sick with the anesthetic and threw up repeatedly when she got home. Blood clots didn't hold. She was in the office that Saturday (had surgery on a Friday) after my mom calling and getting the surgeon to come in after hours and she was treated and comfortable until things got back on track.

Hopefully I will pass this time period in recovery and not have to worry about that.

Ugh stupid Chrome and its Development Tools. I hate it. It deleted everything I had written.
Sucks. I hate when that happens.

Ah I see. At least you are covered. Why do you think they break that often?
I honestly don't know. Two broke in the past year, same brand. It was certainly not the most expensive brand/product out there but it also wasn't cheap either. I bet I had a warranty but just didn't bother. I was sick of that product, lol. This new one I bought is a different brand so hopefully it lasts longer!

It's like I get seasonal depression in the beginning of the summer instead of during the spring . Not sure how it happens. I am weird. Most people sleep more in the winter and less in the summer. I am the other way around. I do relate it to the sun and Vitamin D. It's why I love the summer. I get more Vitamin D and as a result I sleep better during the summer.
Makes sense. Yes, I hide in the summer, not because I'm comfortable since I hate it... but because I hide away from the elements that make me sick with the heat and humidity. I stay indoors with the air conditioning just waiting it out until Fall. I also take a Vitamin D supplement so who needs sun.

Ah I see . I read that with each 1 grade change in the temperature, the production of sebum gets higher by 10%. That's like a lot . I now bought a moisturizer that has 63 % iceplant. It's basically hydrating, but the iceplant keeps the temperature for the skin lower hence controls the sebum production. Interesting approach for sure.
What is an iceplant?

Quote:

Yeah with the changes that is to be expected.

I have slight itching quite often and I don't remember about it. I remember only the cases where I had so severe itching I could not even sleep.
That's good it seems to have lessened!

Makes sense to get the smooth and soft texture.

I hope that you don't develop any dry socket.

Ah I see. For me is exactly the opposite. Given the dry air here I need the humidity for my dehydrated skin to live.

Quote:
Mesembryanthemum crystallinum is a prostrate succulent plant native to Africa, Sinai and southern Europe, and naturalized in North America, South America and Australia.[1] The plant is covered with large, glistening bladder cells or water vesicles, reflected in its common names of common ice plant, crystalline ice plant or ice plant.[1] The bladder cells are enlarged epidermal cells. The main function of these bladder cells is to reserve water.[2] It can be annual, biennial or perennial, but its life cycle is usually completed within several months, depending on environmental conditions
So for short iceplant. Basically its idea is first to keep the water in your skin and then to keep the temperature low.

We will see if it's temporary or not .

Nothing really. I just find the older I get the best way to get anything done is to be straight up. I have a sort of baby voice so people don't tend to take me seriously unless I am being blunt.

She really did. It's one of those things I remember too. She showed me her bare sockets (with bone and nerves exposed) and I could hardly believe what I was seeing. I didn't understand what was going on but I remember intuitively that wasn't right! My mom got her in immediately and she doesn't remember if the dentist made those sockets bleed again to form new blood clots or he just packed them. She just remembers relief Saturday morning. Imagine how she was experiencing post-surgical pain in general too? Yes, that was incredible. Back then you didn't really have a choice about anesthetic either. Everyone did the general. Anna did general recently too. Most healthy teens/young adults do the general because they don't want to have to sit through it. That was my sister's first experience with general anesthetic too. She has since had knee surgery and gallbladder surgery and both times they gave her preventive meds for nausea and she didn't have a problem with either surgery. Oh and two C-Sections of course with Anna and Sara but she was awake for those.

24/7. Even Buddy is comfortable when he's home alone.

For me, the GI symptoms caused by the heat rule everything. When you're constantly going to the bathroom (such a nightmare while playing soccer, anything cold in the heat went right through me) and generally feeling bloating and sick, it's not fun. Plus, I would get major rashes all over my legs too... heat rash. My body hates the heat! It's not just a mental preference either. My Immunologist told me people with immune deficiencies do better in colder weather. The heat does something to the immune system. People with arthritis and rheumatic disease feel sicker in the winter with the cold on their joints. Total opposite for people with immune deficiencies. The heat overtakes the immune system, an immune system that doesn't function perfectly as is so it rebels is the best way to explain it. I'll put up with winter dryness any time of the day as a result.

That makes sense. You are right about having to be straight up though in order to get things done. I am learning this as well. I hate saying this but being a woman in certain situations also gives you a disadvantage if you're reserved too. Sometimes you aren't taken seriously. I have learned that being blunt even if it comes across is bitchy (so the stereotype claims) is better than sitting back and not being taken seriously.

Indeed back then there was not that much choice when it comes to anesthesia . And overall as far as medicine goes, we were not that advanced back then. It sucks that she went through this .

Definitely sucks when you have such problems because you can't control the conditions outside. Yes I hate for similar reasons winter. My whole body aches because of the cold. And the fact that air is dry both outside and in the office makes matter worse for my skin.

But we will see how I will deal with the hydration in the winter. I watched a video with idea how to hydrate the skin by layering a hydrating toner 7 times on your face. So most probably this is what I would do in the winter .

Exactly. Yes, it was really unfortunate. I think the surgeon really helped her. I don't remember her struggling too much after she got treatment the next day. My mom called him after hours because they didn't even have office hours on the weekend but he came in twice that weekend for Kris. The good thing was she was so young so her body bounced back very quickly.

Not one sign of knee pain in such a long time.

True . This definitely helped . Good that she bounced back quickly.

But yeah we will see how it will be in the winter. Hydration takes time so we will see. Another fun fact I read is that you need to exfoliate the skin but it also prevents from products being absorbed by the skin. So basically you might put on hydration and it will sit on top of it, the skin would be shiny and it will be still itchy and dehydrated. It's all really connected.

Interesting how the dermatologists don't even construct their treatment plans on this stuff! I believe it's because they are working for drug companies. If a patient finds a way to figure this stuff out and treat on their own the drug companies do not make money. It's all sadly connected. That is not to say there are not good doctors out there of course. But as a rule, remembering the doctor/drug company thing is key when you are truly trying to find relief.

I used to be overly concerned as coming across like an angry black woman, but I don't care anymore. If it means I get things done, then so be it. No matter what I do, people will see a stereotype. My sister used to call it the triple curse: black, female, and muslim.

Your sister is right. You're battling three things. Look at it this way... only people that matter and/or have brains and hearts only see those three things and realize your make up is special. The others are trash and don't matter anyway.

Honestly, I try not to think of myself in those terms. Most days I am just She, wife of Eric, mother of five and maker of a mean cup of joe. But, there are those days where those three labels define me and instead of fighting it, I embrace it.

You should embrace it, along with the other things you listed. You should embrace every part of you because those things are what makes you you.
