- I find it endearing how Andy attempts to start cooking for them, even if the Ephram/Delia comments about his failing in this area are so hilarious. LOL.
- I love how Ephram knows Delia is scared over the movie. It shows how close they are as brother and sister. Of course, it's just as important to note that Andy had zero awareness of Delia suffering from anxiety over this movie for years. Also, I'm with Delia when it comes to this movie. It used to scare the crap out of me too, especially the part where the Violet girl turns that awful shade of blue, essentially transforming into a blueberry. That scene always freaked me out no matter how many times I attempted to view it. I slept with my parents on nights I watched this movie. - LOL Ephram and Delia ordering pizza was awesome. - There is the Violin. It is beautiful. - I like how Andy goes into flashback mode with Julia while trying to figure out why Ephram is being so moody and rebellious. It's great that he remembers conversations he had with Julia in order to figure out how to deal with Ephram in an attempt to fix their relationship. Sarcasm = emotion, got it. - It is great how Andy transitions from remembering a conversation with Julia to immediately having a real conversation with Nina, even sharing some thoughts on his absent father bit. It is clear Berlanti wants us to realize Andy & Nina are to be remembered and penciled in as a future close relationship for Andy. - The Harold/Andy banter is so great: Quote:
- The Greg/Emily chemistry is entrancing. Every Ephram/Amy scene has me on the edge of my seat because sparks are flying everywhere. No matter what words are exchanged, you know these two are ending up together. I feel it is 100% in stone they are the main couple that is going to stick. - Wow, I totally forgot how different Bright is in these earlier episodes. His coming out of the bathroom stall with two of his goons in order to bully Ephram is just lame. Of course Ephram making the dig at Colin for being unconscious is not exactly classy either. Nevertheless, it's fun to watch how the dynamic between Bright and Ephram gets started. It really did originate from the depths of hell. LOL. - We can see Berlanti's own personal political views as it appears he was not impressed with President Reagan. Did Greg Berlanti already know Reagan was the start of darkness that would result in Trump? Seriously, this is very interesting since we've discussed the evils of Reagan very recently on OT3 and then this shows up in 1.2. Not a coincidence since I don't believe in coincidences. So yes, through that horrible teacher, Berlanti showed this as he had her commending his work and plastering his name in bold on the blackboard. Berlanti actually wrote this episode, too, so all the more this was his work. I love Greg Berlanti. - Speaking of that teacher... she was so horrible. I wanted to take my hand, pull it into my screen, make a fist and punch her directly in the face. The boys sitting in the front and the girls sitting in the back... just wow. Delia, all cute with her Denver Nuggets hat questioning her was the best. - Gino Changs having both Italian and Chinese is full of awesome. Quote:
- Harold really is elitist in this episode in a large way. He made fun of the boy painting, he was pissed his table at the restaurant he likes was taken, calling Ephram a future parolee. Harold has always been Harold but like Bright, he is a bit extreme in the early episodes to say the least. - It's difficult getting mad at Andy for having to leave Ephram and Delia at the restaurant when he's being so kind to the woman with all the children who have pneumonia and are very sick. It was very sweet of him to take the entire family to the all night pharmacy in order to get them well again, not to mention paying for absolutely everything. I understand why Ephram sees the same routine as NY, but in this case, Andy really is being amazing. - I love how everyone is giving clues that Ephram and Amy will be together eventually: Bright, Andy, Delia, Harold. They all are giving hints about this. - Ephram getting into bed with Delia after she had the nightmare was so cute. - Ephram/Andy fight, more fireworks since apparently The Pilot didn't have enough of the 4th of July stuff. LOL. - The view of Thawfest with the mountains and Ferris Wheel (hello, Ephram/Amy and their last scene of the series/happy ending) is so beautiful. - I smiled while viewing Ephram/Amy on their first unofficial "Date" at Thawfest. It doesn't matter to me that Amy has a plan to get Colin better because that is not what is only happening between Ephram/Amy. They are falling for each other. - When Bright puts his arm around Ephram/Amy at Thawfest I am instantly reminded of what happens between this trio in the future which makes this scene all the more awesome. - The Harold and Edna fight at Thawfest is outstanding. Berlanti using humor to show emotion is one of his many talents. - The direction of the Ephram/Amy scene on the Ferris Wheel is goosebump worthy. The direction and music are two characters on this show. It is remarkable, everything about this show is remarkable. - I love when Delia grabs Andy's hand as they are all watching him talk to Julia's Spirit. Such a powerful scene. - The Brown's laughing in the car and Delia using that moment to hand Andy the note from school was hilarious. I also loved the talk Andy and Ephram had about Julia. What a great moment. - The town is so fickle headed back to Harold's practice. - Mrs. Dudley bringing tears to Andy's eyes was a great moment. - Andy bitching out Delia's horrible teacher was as good as it gets. - What a powerful scene at the end while the Brown's ate dinner together with Julia at the table looking at them. That was no hallucination, thank you very much. Some extra thoughts: As much as Andy needed to hear the 'Great Doctor Brown' speech, that must have really upset him to know that Julia was going right along with Ephram in mocking him with it. Especially since in one of his flashbacks, she calls him that. It really had to hurt him. The way Miss Violet treated Delia was disgusting, especially how she invited the other students to make fun of her too. That was so disappointing to see but I was so glad Delia recognized immediately that Miss. Violet had the problem, not Delia, and Andy made that fact well known in the concluding scene with the horrible teacher. Ephram and Andy go back and forth between having positive moments and having negative moments. One step ahead, one step back and it goes back and forth, back and forth. There is so much love and pain between them. You see and feel it so very clearly. I do believe Ephram realized in this episode that Andy is really trying to become a man that didn't exist in NY. Ephram sees this which is why he is having some sensitive moments with his father. You do feel hope between these two. Also, even if at the episode it makes you doubt what Amy's true intentions are with regards to Ephram, it is still crystal clear to me she genuinely cares about him. I think when the Browns moved into town she really saw it as an answer for Colin but she genuinely enjoyed hanging out with Ephram. In addition, why would Amy even need Ephram to get to Andy? She could have easily presented her thoughts to Harold who could have talked to Andy, she could have gotten Edna involved given that she worked directly with Andy, or Amy could have gone to Andy on her own. She didn't go with any of those options. She went to Ephram while feeling a close chemistry with him that she enjoyed. He made her feel alive, alive in a way that she hasn't felt since well before Colin got into the accident. She feels a pull to Ephram and he feels it right back. Those close to them all make it well known in this episode that is the case given their comments. I think Bright just kept telling Ephram that Amy was playing him because that is what Bright wanted to believe. I think it's important to keep in mind that Colin was Bright's best friend as well as Amy's boyfriend, and it seems the three of them hung out and did everything together. So Bright sees Amy smiling again, feeling happy sometimes, and that is what had Bright feeling threatened over what was going on between Ephram and Amy. It also reminded Bright of Colin being replaced, Colin not recovering, and it tore Bright up mentally. Also, Bright might have felt like Amy was moving on and if Amy of all people goes there, why can't he move on and will he be stuck feeling this guilt and pain over his best friend forever? This was a fantastic episode. It makes me want to watch 1.3 right now. Last edited by jediwands; 01-16-2021 at 11:45 PM |

Great write up Michelle.
I've been thinking a lot about Miss Violet. I know they wanted to use her for a point, but I hated how old fashioned - and for me, out of place - she felt. I get that Berlanti and team wanted to show the small-mindness of the show, but it felt like she was from the 1950's not the 2000's. I wished there was another way to explore this school story without relating to that. I also felt Harold was really really A Lot here. I'm so glad his character grows, and Tom Amandes is able to show how well rounded of an actor he is, and I also know that the character doesn't have a ton of backstory at this point, but still...gahhhhh. I did love when Rose points out to him he has been complaining about all of this for far too long What's beautiful about the Abbotts is you can see how all of the actors/actresses sort of lean into one another, like a real family. Bits of Harold's personality shows up in Bright in the many scenes with Harold/Andy and Bright/Ephram, and Amy too has aspects of her mom and dad in "her". Kudos to the crew I also love the juxtaposition of Andy seeing Julia/a memory of a conversation with her and the real life talk with Nina. I am excited for Nina's centric episode (which I think is next, or soon) about the surrogacy. Feels like they are slow burn setting up Andy and Nina (which we know is slooooooooow burn). And of course love Ephram and Amy at Thaw Fest I did have to laugh as a teen I did not see that the backdrop is clearly a backdrop, whereas an adult I was like they're on a Ferris wheel behind a cloth background to look like mountains I also love the funny thought Ephram has about Amy coming up to the Browns at dinner and how it leans into the dream he had in the pilot __________________

Berlanti definitely established Andy/Nina & Ephram/Amy as THE pairings of the series. Quote:

Wonder if Harold would take this back if this would have been around 1/6/21. Quote:

Meet our biggest Ephram/Amy Shipper, The Ferris Wheel...
Season 1: Season 2: Season 4: The Ferris Wheel shipped Ephram/Amy. Seriously, such great evolution/Berlanti remembering the Ferris Wheel being significant for his main romantic pairing. Last edited by jediwands; 01-17-2021 at 06:19 PM |
