Episode Discussion Ep#306 "Shoot the Moon"

from the wb

Andy (Treat Williams) worries that Ephram (Gregory Smith) is beginning to question himself and his chances of getting into Julliard after he applies to a college in Colorado as a back-up plan. Similarly, Harold (Tom Amandes) has concerns of his own when Amy (Emily VanCamp) informs him that she's not applying to the school they always dreamed of her attending, Princeton, because it would take her too far away from Ephram. Meanwhile, Andy jumps head first into helping Amanda (Anne Heche) and her disabled husband (guest star Jason Beghe) with a new therapy involving music, but it may be too much and too fast for Amanda; and Edna (Debra Mooney) and Irv's (John Beasley) marriage hits a rough patch after Irv loses his job and they contemplate their future together.
Vivien Cardone, Chris Pratt, Stephanie Niznik and Merrilyn Gann also star. Michael Green wrote the episode directed by Matt Shakman.

Well, at least that explains what Dr. Abbott and Amy were fighting about in the preview.

The only other comment I have now is that I'm glad to finally see Irv...even if it is in less than perfect circumstances.

I hope Amy has other reasons for not wanting to go to Princeton in addition to wanting to be close to Ephram, even though I love that reason anyway. But, I hope it turns out that Ephram is one of many reasons for her. And maybe Princeton was always Harold's dream for Amy and not necessarily Amy's dream.

I am also glad we get to see Irv/Edna.

Not looking forward to seeing Andy/Amanda stuff.

I couldn't agree more Wilpen.

My take on the episode, as it is taking place. Posting during the commericals, basically.

Ok, first, the slight attempt at a voice over, very nice!
although, a good theme for them to focus on ephram and juliard. well, ephram and his future.

amy is bugging me. she needs to pick schools that interest her, without being close to ephram.

steve from sex and the city, awesome lil guest spot.

i hope ephram expands his horizons, and applies to more then the 2 he applied to. because it would be a shame if he didn't get into either.

-----

i cant believe irv just quit his job like that. thats just not irv. and edna is not going to take this fine, shes gonna yell at him, and i dont know. i mean, he seemed like the stable one in that relationship.

andy's music medicine? seems like a crock to me. and its so obvious there setting something up between them, but shes a skynard fan,

harold is putting way too much pressure on amy, i don't know if i like that. i mean yeah shes got 8 schools, but what is his infatuation with Princeton. I mean ... maybe she feels its too far, from ephram. if thats the case, then thats stupid.

andy shouldn't go with ephram to the college. hes just gonna cause more trouble, and question ephrams decisions.

--------

wow, alot of horny edna/irv action. i was kinda shocked by finding out he got fired, but how ok he was about it. im glad shes there to support him, but his actions were ridiculous.

ok, andy was being a complete jerk there. i hope this is a wake up call to him, because ephram is just looking out for himself. he, unlike andy, cannot get everything he wants. hes thinking ahead. andys behavior was childish, and very uncalled for. im glad ephram told him like it is.

i cant believe edna quit dr hartmans office. its just going to make more problems, and this could break up the two enda/irv. wasn't a good move.

ok, amy finally got it like it was. and what she said to bright was just foul. she does go about her life by the guy shes dating. harold had to tell her like it was, her revenge is immature. and i hope harold eventually tells her about madison, so she can stop thinking everything is good, and safe. she should have been planning ahead, incase stuff happens. shes acting ridiculous. her point at the end was pathetic.

----------

ok, im glad amanda gave andy the tape to watch. and the whole point of getting to know the real man, before working on him. i liked that.

edna/irv - guys this aint looking too good. i dont think edna is going to settle down, shes a worker. and what does this mean for the show? are they leaving? i sure hope not.

i didnt like ephrams rant about being undecided, because when i registered i was undecided, and he made it sound like such a horrible thing. like we just never take interest, and then go on to nothing jobs. thats not true. hes very naive.

i liked that amy left, because she knew he was in a bad mood.

the dr abbott/ ephram conversation was like a long time coming. and im glad it happened. i loved the line about harold being God's favorite channel. and also, im glad he asked ephram to ask amy, because she listens to him. nicely played, hal.

-------

well ... im starting to like jake. hes very persistent. and he was so confident, and its like he got to know her in a short amount of time.

lol, ephram tried to help dr. abbott, but it didn't work. shes sticking with her own agenda.

poor edna/irv. it looks like its over. or about to be. its sad.

amy kinda borke her dads heart. i feel bad for hal. i think deep down hes aware of the incident ephram had with madison, and is scared her heart is going to break and she will be lost.

im glad andy apologized to ephram. but, his assurance of him getting into juliard im not so happy with. if he doesnt get in, its going to be a great loss. and i think andy is putting too much pressure on him.

im shocked that ephram filled out the application essay for amy. will this change things between them? and lovely voice over to tie it all together.

next weeks: wow, sex already. lol. that has to mean that the madison situation has to be mentioned. and didnt amy already know about madison/ephram sex? im kinda confused. it looks awesome though.

this was a great episode filled with alot of drama. the vo was perfect, and showed how lost the show was without it.

I REALLY liked this episode. Especially the E/A stuff. Okay, I totally understand where Amy is coming from in wanting to be close to Ephram. Do I think she should be so dead set on being at a college right next to his? No, of course not. But I understand WHY she feels this way. With what she went through with Colin, I completely understand her line of thinking. And being a die-hard E/A fan, I melted whenever she said to Ephram.. "I'm betting on us." So incredibly adorable.

And Ephram.. I am falling in love with this guy more and more. I didn't think it was possible to love him more than I already do. LOL But whenever he filled out the essay part and sent Amy's Princeton application, I died. How incredibly selfless and loving was that? Even though I am scared at what Amy's reaction is going to be whenever finding out about it. All the same, I love how selfless Ephram has always been regarding his love for Amy. It is deep, it is endless, and it is also completely selfless. He could have just sat on cloud 9 knowing that Amy wants to be by his side and completely gotten engulfed by it. Instead, he thinks of her and what would be BEST for her. Even if that means that they would be apart for their college years. And even if that means that Amy is going to be ticked beyond belief that he applied for her. He is only thinking of what's best for her. That is true love at its finest.

I LOVE E/A and this episode is just another example of why. And their chemistry was off the charts again, as usual. I just love them. And this is all thanks to Greg/Emily. They just light it up on the screen together. It is so natural and captivating. Simply amazing.

As for Harold… funny how it was pointed out by Rose that Harold gave up going to Princeton for their relationship, so I found it kinda weird that he was having a huge problem with Amy wanting to be near Ephram whenever he did the same, exact thing. Although, I loved the Harold/Ephram convo.

Not much of Bright. That sucked.

Andy bugged the F out of me with the way he was acting during the college tour. Hello dude, chill out! I was so embarrassed for Ephram. I wanted him to smack Andy right then and there. Although, Andy sort of redeemed himself at the end I guess.

As for Amanda and Andy… blah to me. Although I think Anne Heche is acting the crap out of her character. She is doing a really nice job.

Even though we aren't seeing much kissing from E/A, I think it is pretty much inferred that they do their fair share of kissing based on Ephram's comment when he thought Amy was coming over to make up, but it was Harold that was there instead.

Next week looks great. I doubt E/A will have sex yet, but it will be interesting to dwelve into getting some scoop on the physical part of their relationship.

I liked tonight. Some really good E/A scenes and the end I think he showed how much he cares for her by mailing that. I really enjoyed the Harold and Ephram talk I think it was nice. Amy is her own person though and should be allowed to make her own choices although I don't think it's wrong of father to voice his opinion but I do think he needs to respect her choices but I don't agree she should base everything on the man she loves but hey Love is Love. Andy I want to someday hook up with Nina so I hope this is all leading to that someday. Liked all the Edna stuff.

Michelle, I just knew that you would say that you loved all the Ephram and Amy scenes! I did too.

I’m too tired to write my episode commentary tonight, but I taped the show, and I’ll write it tomorrow. To put things briefly though, I loved this episode, and I especially loved the scene with Ephram and Harold. God I love this show.

~Ephram looked quite sexy all wet! *sighs* I feel like a dirty old woman having such thoughts. Hee.

~I miss Bright..... At least we got to see him for a minute. I wanted to slap Amy for being mean to her brother.

~Andy needed a slap too. At least he apologized to Ephram.

~I hope Edna and Irv survive the angst coming their way.

~I'm starting to like Anne Heche. I like how she put Andy in his place.

~I really enjoyed the Harold/ Ephram talk.

~Ephram writing Amy's essay kinda squigged me out. On one hand it was sweet but on another its just not right.

I really enjoyed this eppy. Oh, and Ephram needs to cut his hair.

I really hope that Ephram doesn't just shoot for Julliard only. He needs to be happy with the decision he makes, not his father.

Andy, I have no words, he's just... yeah.
