THOUGHTS WHILE VIEWING EPISODE
THOUGHTS AFTER VIEWING EPISODE Eugene & Andy & Ephram Once again, more brilliance on the screen: Charles Durning as Eugene Brown and Treat Williams as Andy Brown together is a dream. Let that sink in… watching these two together so late in the game for a couple of episodes is pure Everwood. The amount of high quality on our screens for four wonderful seasons is truly amazing. Specifically, what an interesting parallel between S4 Eugene and Andy plus S1 Andy and Ephram. Both sons in each dynamic felt abandoned for different reasons. All three in Eugene, Andy and Ephram, are stubborn and rigid. Andy and his father have so much in common as they both were absent fathers during important time periods. I really appreciated meeting Eugene Brown because it feels like going back to the origin of Andy Brown and seeing how his relationships with his parents affected him as a husband and father. It all bleeds together. Ephram was able to absorb all the more why Andy might have behaved certain ways based on his father’s past with Eugene. There is a sense of finality with the Brown men as some blanks were filled in. The last scene between Eugene and Andy was really good and I like how Ephram even said he could never have forgiven the driver that killed Julia but Andy forgiving Eugene was different because he is Andy’s father. It was also a sweet touch showing Eugene understanding immediately what was going on between Andy and Nina. More than once he noticed just how much Nina meant to his son. He hadn’t seen Andy in over a decade yet immediately picks up on something significant between Andy and Nina. Parents just intuitively understand these things. Eugene & Delia Everwood is known for perfectly inserting a very important scene in an episode when you least expect it. In this episode that scene is between Eugene and Delia. The two of them discussing pancakes, the Jewish faith, how much Andy has changed, Julia, Ephram, and the needy hilarious comment was extra adorable. What a brilliant scene between Grandfather and Granddaughter. Andy & Ephram I love how Ephram was talking to Eugene and until Andy filled him in, he did not know Eugene was his Grandfather. It just felt magically fated how Amy mentioned the guy stealing her tip money and Ephram feeling the need to talk to him. There was this Universal pull, and Energy if you will. The conversation between Andy and Ephram as Andy explained everything was powerful. What a heartbreaking story explaining how Andy’s mother passed and might not have passed away had she gone to see the top cardiologist Andy wanted her to see. Ephram still told Andy this was his father he needed to listen to and find a way to forgive him. Ephram not mad and upset over Andy deciding not to tell Ephram and Delia that Eugene existed demonstrates Ephram’s maturity. If this was S1, Ephram would have made the situation about him and punished Andy. Instead, he was patient, understanding, while giving his advice on what Andy should do about the situation. A thought on Ephram & Delia regarding their Paternal Grandfather So Ephram and Delia maintain a loving relationship for years with Julia's parents and never once were curious enough to ask Andy about their other set of Grandparents? Ephram didn't know Andy's father existed until this time period was admittedly slightly unrealistic on a show that usually maintains realism. That said, I love how Ephram and Delia handled the situation overall. They love and trust their father which is demonstrated in how they supported him throughout the episode. Andy & Nina & Jake I was so disappointed in Nina. How could she let Andy find out about California in such a heartbreaking way? She is so passive right now. She literally wants to be with Andy (she refused to tell Andy she wanted to go with Jake repeatedly) yet believes the best situation for everyone involved is to run off with Jake to California. Nina is giving this intense loyalty and dedication just because she said she would try to work things out after his addiction resurfaced. Why? True feelings and love should matter, Nina. My heart broke for Andy having to find out Nina accepted the offer to move to California. It was completely out of character for Nina to let Andy find out that way. She was afraid to tell him, but the real Nina would have found a better way to soften the blow. Andy was clueless and at times, insensitive, to Nina’s feelings during the first half of the series as he was distracted by Dr. Trott, Linda and Amanda (even if Andy still found a way to show the audience he was falling for Nina). That said, Andy has been “punished” for this a million times over since then. He has had to endure Nina with Jake for nearly two seasons coupled with pain and hurt over and over again. What makes it devastating is Andy understands that Nina wants to be with him, not Jake, but there is nothing he can do about this sad reality. Honestly, Andy has endured enough pain and frustration in every aspect of his life. Enough. This man deserves some peace and happiness. It is sad seeing him love Nina so much but circumstances keep getting in the way with Nina passive and not courageous enough to put a stop to this triangle and declare what her true feelings are once and for all. Eugene gets it immediately yet Nina cannot be honest and decides to run and hide instead. Poor Andy is not just losing the woman he is in love with but it is a double blow because she happens to be his best friend (along with Harold) too. It is not fair. Andy Brown deserves happiness. Bright & Hannah I just don’t understand what Rina wanted to do with these two. They were mismatched from the start, then Bright cheats and they remain in limbo for the rest of the series. It is irritating. They never should have gotten together romantically if they were going to have the cheating storyline and lingering after that without true resolution. It is really draining. Even Ephram was frustrated in this episode seeing Bright not living and of course he almost died due to alcohol and depression. Hannah doesn’t want to move on either. The way I see it: 1. They should have always remained friends. 2. If they went romantic, they could have broken up earlier realizing they were too different and better off as friends. 3. They also could have just stayed together without the cheating. The cheating made it so much worse because there wasn’t a clean break after the cheating. What really was the point of Bright's fall? Was it merely to emphasize Hannah's sainthood by having her revive him? Or was it to provide redemption for Bright? There is nothing like literally falling down drunk and crashing through a bar window to make your ex forgive your cheating and realize she still loves you. At least the writers didn't have Andy rush in and do the surgery. Hannah & Nick I really like Nick. I could easily get on board with Hannah and Nick. He is even a Christian which goes perfectly with who Hannah is. I thought their scenes were really cute even if Hannah makes it clear she’s not in the perfect place to give things a serious try at the moment. They also have some nice chemistry. I do not understand why Rina brought Nick into the situation because all it does is showcase how much better it would have been for Hannah with a Nick type over Bright. Was that the point? Rose & Edna What a touching scene. Edna was right on about the bruising most likely relating to medication. The irony of Rose telling Edna to look out for Harold is that it will be Harold looking out for Edna in the future after Irv passes away. Harold & Rose I really loved seeing them come together when they needed each other the most. I loved the moment when Harold told Rose the scan was clean and she was in remission. Amy Amy had a strong episode. The scene when she calls Hannah about Bright while she's crying was incredible. Emily can convey through non-verbal communication endless emotion. I have never seen better. Only Emily can flawlessly accomplish this. Amy's general reaction to Bright was incredible, her loyalty to Hannah strong and passionate, and the return of jealous Amy appeared, which is always worth the price of admission. Amy & Hannah Their friendship was strong in this episode. They argued, they talked, they trusted each other. I love that Amy was all over a LEGO set since it is a nice tool for your mental health. I think it was a reminder that Amy has healed beautifully. Hannah could use a LEGO set right now. Ephram & Ephram & Stephanie I remember when this episode entered spoiler-land and reading the sides. Many were worried about how Ephram was going to act based on the script. Some were shocked Ephram would casually allow Amy to be around another girl he was interested in. Didn’t Ephram say he would wait for Amy and as we have been viewing, they are clearly getting closer? It seems odd that Ephram wouldn’t understand Stephanie around at Bright’s party knowing Amy was essentially planning it with him was simply a bad idea. Ephram is certainly intuitive enough to understand he and Amy are edging slowly back to each other. The idea that he would risk blowing it is beyond comprehension. It doesn’t make any sense. Also, first impression, I do not like Stephanie. I am perplexed as to why Ephram would be attracted to her at all. The sides predicted she would be Laynie-like (I totally remember this) and she turned out being nothing close to Laynie. If anything, Stephanie’s arrogance reminds me more of Madison. I actually do not mind Stephanie in the next couple of episodes overall (even if I do not love her) but first impression will always be I do not care for her. I also think that Ephram was out of character in this episode with his drinking and general behavior at the bar. The drinking theme with Ephram throughout the entire series is that he drinks when he’s upset. That is not what was happening in this episode and it seemed off. I know they are saving the fairytale happy ending for Ephram and Amy until the series finale but there was momentum building between Ephram and Amy that seemed to stop dead in its tracks in this episode given Ephram all over getting with Stephanie and not caring if Amy witnessed any of this. Ephram & Amy I will forever be happy that they actually received the first scene of the episode. I loved the playful banter going on between them. So perfect. I loved how Ephram was so confident that he would get Eugene to crack (who he didn't know was a relative at the time) and Amy humored him, allowing him to "hang himself" whenever he failed miserably. I loved Andy walking in, casually going up to Amy and asking her what was up, which Amy immediately started to go with the playful digs about what Ephram was attempting to do. It was made clear (once again) that Andy and Amy continue being comfortable and friendly around each other since they bonded when Ephram was in New York. Back to Ephram and Amy... you can finally tell that any awkwardness and residual effects from the end of S3 are clearly over. Amy is still not entirely ready to get back together with Ephram yet it's obvious that the painful memories of the past are now over and done with for good which is really nice to see. We witnessed this for a little while now but this episode cemented it in reality. Jealous Amy certainly resurfaced in this episode as she immediately asked Bright who Ephram was with at the bar. You could tell that Amy tried to act casual about it but then her eyes said it all. She was thinking in such an intense way. She also couldn't stop looking at them coupled with her looking down emotionally taking it in. Historically, Amy always looks down to the ground when upset about something. Stephanie is clearly being used as the one who allows Amy to wake up and realize she needs to reunite with Ephram for good. I loved Ephram being there for Amy at the hospital. The vending machine scene was incredible! Without words but moving… so very moving! The looks, expressions, gestures. I loved how Ephram looked sort of hesitant, it appeared he almost wanted to embrace Amy but held back. He gazed at her then stepped away as Amy sort of followed him briefly with her eyes. So beautiful. And yes, so incredibly similar to S1. The biggest observation? Amy was wearing Ephram’s hoodie he was wearing earlier. What a subtle, beautiful added extra. We do not see Ephram give Amy his hoodie, but if you pay close attention you see Amy has on Ephram’s hoodie at the hospital which is precious. You always feel like Ephram and Amy are together because their connection is unbreakable. They are drawn to each other. Always. Irv The end scene with Irv is always so difficult to watch. Notice how that scene is similar to the Colin scene in S1 when Colin goes to the refrigerator and collapses due to a seizure. I do not really understand what the necessity was to kill off Irv. I have to wonder if they were preparing for S5 and Edna heavily interacting with her son and family so Irv was expendable. We viewed in S1 Irv almost dies from a heart attack and now it really happens a few years later. Was S1 always foreshadowing for his future passing? Was Edna so worried and upset in S1 after his heart scare due to intuitively understanding eventually Irv was going to pass away from a heart attack? Either way, it was heartbreaking. Edna was finally ready to retire and experience the world with Irv but he passes away right before they get the opportunity of a lifetime. FINAL THOUGHTS I was reading over my first review and remembered when TV GUIDE opened with saying that Everwood was the best acted, best written, best family drama on TV and yet... the CW inexplicably did not add the series to their network. What an absolute joke this was… the critics know it, the cast knows it, the fans know it. This episode was a strong one. I liked Eugene showing up and how it affected the Brown’s as a whole. The theme of the episode centers around life being short and embracing those around you while you can: Rose and her cancer testing, Bright drunk and almost dying and Hannah seeing the light on what he means to her, Eugene and Andy finally healing wounds they left alone for years, appreciating those around you because they might not always be there. Irv’s passing represented embracing love. It was a very sad and heartbreaking situation for Edna. Nina denying her love for Andy and Amy having to witness Ephram around another woman while she still hasn’t made the official move to reunite with Ephram represents hesitation and not fully embracing the love in your heart. Life is short, so live life to the fullest while you are residing in this playground called earth. Lastly, I think the biggest theme of this episode gently inserted in there goes right back to parent and child once again, the overall theme of the series. In this episode, Everwood cleverly found a way to showcase this theme once again between Andy and his own father. Eugene and Andy, as I mentioned above, give us a backstory on Andy. But I think the episode took it even one step further, circling around and back to Andy and Ephram once again. The biggest line of the episode was Andy talking about how you have to be there for your children, and Eugene asked, "Even when they hate you?" and Andy replied, "Especially then." Especially then was such a powerful response and as usual, Treat as Andy sold the meaning masterfully. You can literally flash back to all the yelling, fighting, and pain that transpired between Andy and Ephram (to a lesser extent, Andy and Delia, and even Harold with his children)... but especially Andy and Ephram... there were moments during the first three seasons Ephram could not even handle being in the same room as Andy, because it was too hard. S1, Ephram acted like he had zero interest in developing a relationship with Andy but Andy kept trying. Andy did not even want to tell Ephram about Julia's affair even if he knew it might score him some points and make things easier with Ephram. Andy tried to do what was best in S2 when Madison entered the picture and his father instincts told him she was bad news. He still hung in there with Ephram even if he was making some wrong choices. After the Madison pregnancy reveal, clearly the darkest time for them, Ephram acted like he was cutting all ties with Andy. During the most complicated, darkest time, Andy was patient but never abandoned Ephram. Andy never gave up on him, no matter how much Ephram portrayed intense hatred and wanting to extinguish Andy out of his life for good. Andy never gave up, not even for a second, which is why Andy Brown turned into an incredible father... one that Julia is so proud of as her Light shines down on her family. Looking forward to the final episodes of Everwood. Last edited by jediwands; 04-13-2023 at 09:40 AM |

WOW, what a doozy of an episode. So much happened. Def. one of the best episodes this season imo, I don't even know where to start...
But I guess first I will tackle Nina and Jake. I am disappointed of course that Nina agreed to just drop everything and move with Jake without really thinking it through or talking things over. Just leaving her Diner that she wanted so badly doesn't make sense to me at all. She is not a California girl... I think she made it pretty obvious the true reason why she is considering it, which is to get away from Andy to make things "easier". But I find that so silly because it was her decision not to be with Andy??? And I just dont really get what the writers are doing here. If I were watching this show live, I would think Nina and Jake were endgame because of how they are being written. It doesnt make any sense to still have them together at this point. Nina could have ended it this episode and Jake could have decided to leave on his own, it would have been the perfect timing for that! Ugh. It's so frustrating to watch and this storyline has def. been the most disappointing one this season. Bright's storyline was very random to me, him falling through a window was so dumb. How did he lose his balance like that and how freakin cheap is that window to just break? lmao. Kind of dumb, and then the whole death scare just felt weird. I totally forgot that this even happened and it kinda feels like a cheap way to bring Hannah back around to him... idk, I wasn't fond of this SL. I thought Hannah was yet again rude to Nick on the phone, and he could do way better than her, but at least she seemed to be pretty nice on the actual date. And the fact that he is seemingly religious too, I mean, hello Hannah, why are you hesitating? I do however understand the feeling of just getting out of a relationship and not quite being ready to date again, so it makes sense, but Nick is such a sweetie. I was kinda bummed they didn't actually kiss in the episode. To be frank, she should have ended up with him, ngl. Stephanie seems fine, shes cool enough imo, but shes so random. To bring a new character into the mix in the last 4 eps of the show just seems dumb to me and really pointless. Again, I think its just a way to see some jealousy from Amy but Steph/Ephram really had no chemistry at all lol. And Ephram inviting her to Bright's party with Amy there seemed like an odd choice to me. Also, a first date at a bar, really? lol. Edna and Irv... what a sad storyline. Edna finally decides she wants to stop working and travel and then Irv has a heart attack? How horrible and depressing. They deserved better than this. I would have preferred a time jump where they had been traveling for a few weeks or something and then this happened, forcing Edna to come home, because at least they would have gotten to do what Irv has been wanting for a while now and they would have gotten at least one episode to be freaking happy, jeez. So glad Rose's cancer wasn't back, and it was hard watching her be all depressed in this episode thinking it was. Not much else to say about that storyline really, but i think they could have dragged that out into another episode or so. Ephram and Amy finally had some nice interaction this episode. Loved the hug. Loved the jealousy from Amy. Loved the hospital moments. Loved the opening scene with them making a bet, but idk, somethign is just lacking for me. And its not the actors, but its just bad writing. I dont remember being this disappointed with this season before but I really am. These two are the shows OTP, they deserved so much more this season imo. The best storyline of the episode was with Andy and his father for sure. I just wish this storyline had been done at the very least in season 2 or something. 15 years is a freaking long time not to talk and its not even that they didn't speak its that he didn't even know anything about Andy's life! He's only just now discovering that Julia died? Only just now learning he has a grand daughter? The whole storyline felt so werid to me and honestly a bit tacked on. They did a good job with it, but i kinda hate how this was written. I wish instead they'd just had a strained relationship and it had been about 6 years or something since he'd last seen the kids, I think that would ahve made heck of a lot more sense. How the two fell out, I get that, the mom dying is a big reason as to why there was so much animosity there, but damn, knowing what Andy was going through with Ephram and them both losing Julia you would think he would have tried to reach out after that??? To me, if my father didnt contact me for 15 years there is no way i would ever let him back in my life so I'm just a bit lost on this. I wish the actor had gotten a better scene with Ephram, we didn't even see them talking to getting to know each other??? But I did enjoy the scene with Delia. It was cute and it was nice to finally see some more dialogue from Delia, though it makes me even more angry that we didn't get more from her through the years.... This top 5 is tricky but I will go with: 1. Ephram 2. Andy 3. Nick - (he was one of hte few people not being an idiot this episode lol) 4. Amy - didn't do that much this ep but she continues to be awesome and not annoying lol and Emily is a good crier. 5. Eugene - simply because the actor was good __________________

Yes, I have no idea if the writers found a convenient way for Hannah to forgive and forget the cheating and make her realize she wanted to get back together with Bright or what but that was really stupid too. We saw Hannah's behavior and that was already telling the story overall. She was super upset, in pain, and did not want to go there with Nick at all. So the Bright accident was not even necessary. See, back when the episode aired live they were selling the episode as someone gets sick and dies. Literally, that was the sell. So I think what happened was they teased us with Bright possibly dying, Rose finding out her cancer was back and actively dying, and then Irv was the real one. That is what they were doing, this dramatic very WB, very unlike Everwood twist and shocker type of thing. I think that's why it felt rushed, they were pushing this dramatic reveal and the audience knew it was coming. Quote:

Did the fans hate Nick or did like they like him back when this was airing? Quote:
Yeah Michelle its just so sad and disappointing when shows wait til the last minute to put their pairings together. Literally no one wants that! The finale of the 2nd to last season sure! Even with like 5/6 episodes left, fine, but we want to see them as a happy thriving couple and get cute moments good gracious, why is that so difficult for people ???? How can they not understand that or know how to write healthy, happy functioning couples? lol. Quote:
I'm not as livid about the cancellation because 4 seasons is a heck of a lot better than 1, or 2, or even 3. lol. And it did close pretty completely without cliffhangers. __________________

I am not sure what the point of Nick was. I don't know if it was to show that Hannah was not over Bright but if so, why include that Nick matched her religious beliefs and all of that? They seem to be going for a great match for Hannah only to take it away. Quote:

My Thoughts......
All of a sudden Amy is angry at Bright for cheating? He's still her brother and it is his birthday. Love watching Amy laughing at Ephram's failure. Adorable and so natural. Surprise surprise...you have another grandpa, Ephram. Unreal that he hasn't seen Andy for 15 years. I just can't relate. Hannah...I still think Nick is the right guy for you. Give him a chance. Why are you being so abrupt with him? Oh...Stephanie. Her perkiness gets on my nerves. Please don't be intrigued, Ephram. Nina, props should not do it for you. Props are not Andy. Don't make a hasty decision. Foolish...foolish girl!! Andy's dad is a stubborn stubborn man. Can't really blame Andy for finding it difficult not to be angry with him. Losing a mother is a big deal and there is such a chance that she would have survived if the dad had listened. Andy's analogy regarding forgiving the man who killed Julia is excellent. I didn't realize Bright is 2 years older than Ephram. Damn...Ephram is asking Stephanie out. Rose has a bruise.... Edna finally wants to settle down...smart move. At least she and Irv are finally on the same page. Too bad that's an omen for something bad going to happen. Hannah...just go out and enjoy a date with Nick! Eugene...doesn't like French cars...smart guy. Poor Andy....not a good way to find out that Nina is moving. Shut up, Eugene. Andy is upset! I guess Andy is taken out his devastation on his dad. Nina, you can't fix this. Andy is not angry at his dad, He is very upset that you're leaving. What do you mean....you can't abandon Jake now? That's not a good enough reason to uproot your entire life. Why is Bright still wearing a sling?? You can't blame Rose for being worried. She'll be okay. Eugene....you're just not my type of person. You can be sweeter. Just shut up. Poor Andy had no role model of how to be a father. It's amazing how awesome of a father he has become. Andy did not abandon Ephram when Ephram hated him. Amy is taking the presence of Stephanie amazingly well. Nick is really cute. And he goes to church, too. He really is very much more suitable for Hannah. Too bad it's too soon, but she is having a good time. Oh boy...you don't do trick shots when you're that drunk! Horrible accident. I think that would have been a great kiss between Nick and Hannah. Too bad it was interrupted by that devastating news. Familiar site....Ephram comforting Amy at a hospital and getting her something from a vending machine. You have the comparison between Andy and his family and Eugene and his family. Andy stepped up for his family when his wife died. Eugene abandoned his family when his wife died. Andy stuck by Ephram when Ephram hated him. Eugene did the opposite. Eugene is miserable, but Andy is not. It's never too late to change, and it's never too late to apologize. "Please don't die, Bright." "Okay" Good answer! LOL Things are going too great for Irv and Edna. THat is never good. Last edited by everwoodfan52; 04-22-2023 at 06:01 PM |

I thought that this was an incredibly well-done and ultimately tragic episode that followed a theme of reckoning, and how certain actions can have consequences, now, or later.
The episode started with Ephram and Amy back to their usual happy banter and Ephram expressed concern about Bright, but Amy had little sympathy for him, and he convinced her that they should take him out to celebrate his upcoming 21st birthday. Amy then complained about an old man at one of her prime tables who was ordering nothing but coffee, and Ephram bet her $20.00 that he could get him to move, and Amy took him up on the bet, but the old man was test and mean, and Ephram went away defeated, much to Amy’s delight, but then Andy walked in and he told him that the old man was his father, and the expression on Andy’s face indicated that his relationship with his father was as fractious as his relationship with Ephram once had been. Andy asked his father Eugene what he was doing there and his attitude toward him was very hostile, and it was obvious that he some deep-seated resentment toward his father that was unresolved, but his father said that he just wanted to see his grandchildren and Andy said that he could stay in Ephram’s room and Ephram would give him a ride to his house and he left. Following a theme of meeting new people, Nick, the nice Australian guy who Hannah had a disastrous date with in the last episode through no fault of his, called her up and he asked her out on a date, and she accepted, and Ephram, putting flyers up for his piano lessons, met Stephanie, who was putting flyers up looking for a roommate, and they flirted and exchanged some witty banter, and Ephram took her number. Moving on to a story we don’t care about, Jake gave his pitch to have Nina and Sam move with him to Los Angeles, using silly props to do so, but Nina had already made up her mind to do so. Ephram came home and he asked Andy to explain what happened between Andy and his father, and he said that him and his mother were very close, and his mother had endocarditis, an infection of the heart, which was a serious condition but it was treatable, and Andy wanted his father to bring his mother to see a specialist in New York that he knew that could treat her, but his father refused to consider it, and two months later his mother died, so after the funeral 15 years ago, he never spoke to his father again. Andy said that there was a lot that he hadn’t dealt with when it came to his father, and Ephram said that 15 years was a long time to hold a grudge, and Andy asked if he could forgive the driver of the car that killed his mother and Ephram said “Probably not. But he’s not my father.” We then saw that Andy’s father has heard their whole conversation. Ephram went to see Bright and he tried to have an “intervention” with him to snap him out of the depression that he was in over his breakup with Hannah. Ephram said that he was going to plan a party at a bar for Bright and that he had met a girl that he wanted to ask out to it, and Bright said “So you’re doing this to ask out some chick. Makes me kinda proud!” Nina came to see Andy, intending to tell him that she was going to move to California with Jake, but then his father came out saying that he was going to leave and him and Andy started fighting, so Nina diffused the situation by inviting everyone to dinner, and she didn’t get to talk to Andy about her plans. Edna told Irv that Jake was moving to California and that she would be out of a job, and that maybe it was time for her to retire and see the world, and that she was ready for Phase III, and Irv was overjoyed. Hannah told Amy that she wasn’t sure if she was ready to move on but Amy said that Nick was a rebound guy so there was no pressure so she should just go on the date and “have a terrible time.” At the dinner at Nina’s house, Eugene dominated the conversation and he was quite obnoxious, and then Jake blurted out that him and Nina were moving to Los Angeles, much to Andy’s shock and dismay. Andy took his hurt and anger out on his father and he left, and then Nina came out and she talked to Andy, and in a scene that I found sad and very telling, she basically said that she was doing this out of a sense of obligation, and that it would be easier for everyone, which is the wrong reason to be with someone and to uproot your life to be with someone you shouldn’t be with. Back at the bar celebration for Bright’s birthday, Amy asked who Ephram was with, Bright mentioned that he missed Hannah once again, and he started drinking. Harold and Rose were talking to Edna and Irv about a Trailer Home that they were considering buying, and Harold and Irv left to take a look at it, and Rose expressed her fear to Edna that her cancer was back due to a bruise that she had on her back, and she said that she was scared, and she asked Edna to come back and take care of Harold if her cancer was back in a very emotional scene. Andy had a very contentious conversation with his father that also started to break the hostility between them, and he said that his father had abandoned him when he needed him the most. Back at the bar, Amy was looking for Bright, and Ephram good-naturedly teased her, and she met Stephanie, who was with Ephram, and Stephanie said that Amy was in one of her classes, and she complimented her for saying smart stuff and having a nice leather coat, and then Amy found a drunk Bright outside trying to call Hannah and she told him that she was on a date, which caused him to go inside and drink even more. Back at the bar, Ephram and Amy were trying to get a very drunk Bright to go home, but he stood on a pool table trying to do trick shot and he fell backwards through a plate glass window and he hit his head and was knocked unconscious. Nick and Hannah were on their date and they seemed to be having a really nice time and they seemed to have a lot in common, and he seemed a much better match for Hannah than Bright ever was. At the end of their date, they were about to kiss, but they were interrupted by a phone call from Amy, who, crying, told her about Bright’s accident, and that abruptly ended their date. Ephram told Amy that everything was going to be all right and they embraced. In the hospital, Bright’s situation seemed dire, and everyone anxiously waited as he underwent surgery. Harold told Rose that Bright was going to be all right, and just as she was going to tell him that her cancer was back, he told her that her doctor had called and her scan came back and it was clean, and she was officially in remission, much to their mutual joy. Eugene talked to Delia and they had a nice conversation and Delia told him how Andy really stepped up for them after Julia died, and Eugene then told Andy that after his surgery he had gone to Andy’s hospital and he found out that he was gone and that Julia had died and that he had loved Julia and he thought that her passing would make things easier for him to apologize because he thought that Andy would be miserable, but instead he saw that Andy was surrounded he loved and who loved him because he had changed and that he (Eugene) had made a lot of mistakes in his life, but that Andy was never one of them, and that he was sorry for letting him down over the years, and that he missed Andy’s mother every day, and Andy said that he could relate. Hannah sat at Bright’s bedside and she held his hand and she tearfully said “Please don’t die,” and he woke up and he said “Okay,” in a very moving scene. In a very tragic final scene, Irv was preparing a breakfast tray for Edna, complete with a rose and a note that said “My Sweet Edna” when he had a heart attack and collapsed, ending this episode on a heartbreaking note. Overall, I felt that this was another incredible episode, as we head into the final episodes of this wonderful show. __________________
