A few thoughts while watching episode
1. How sickening Amanda used John (fake prescription) as code for more cheating sex with Andy. Can Amanda and Andy degrade a paralyzed, neurologically impaired man even more at this point? 2. Andy and Amanda call sex and their affair Soup. Vile. 3. Emily is an amazing dancer. Professional dancer. You see it clearly in this episode. Dancers body, and obviously her dance moves are amazing too. I wish we could have seen her dance more. 4. Delia: Coach is working on slap shots today. I love Delia. 5. The Judy Blume comments are great. I read her books while growing up so can relate so much. 6. Jake is a grown man and should have broken up with his ex before leaving for Everwood. I don't like the idea that he's such a nice guy that is why he couldn't be honest with her. 7. Delia playing center hockey outside with mountains surrounding the rink is gold. 8. It is sad that Amy gave up dance around the time Colin got sick. It is not right. She was just a teen girl having to deal with life and death and not able to do normal teen things. She really had it rough during the Colin storyline, giving up regular activities, developing anxiety and depression which turned her world upside down. She understands loss in every way, which is why what Ephram does to her soon is even more heartbreaking. 9. Andy telling Delia's coach why she was off is so ridiculous. Are you serious, Andy? 10. Jake telling the story about prescribing medications to other doctors (with the kid that died of an overdose) is very interesting because he isn't totally honest with Nina during this supposedly sweet moment. He never tells her about HIS substance abuse issues at all. 11. Bright asking Harold and Rose if they think he should talk to Amy because he’s all about failure has me laughing for several minutes. 12. Ephram and Amy throughout are so cute. Such great talks and moments. 13. Principal Green from Dawson's Creek told Amy she had to lose ten pounds. See, I knew in the end I would despise Dawson's Creek. Overall Thoughts (not in any order) after watching episode I loved the opening scene with Ephram, Amy, Bright and Hannah, as Jake's ex pops into town... Amy was so funny telling Ephram and Bright to close their mouths. LOL. Ephram's all.. What? I'm not... Hannah looking at Bright was cute too. Amy actually watching her walk away intellectually was hilarious as well. I think it's funny how very little it takes for most guys to drool and be impressed without knowing one thing about the person but that's another topic all together. Quote:
As mentioned above... I also find it interesting that Jake tells Nina the story about his shady practice (that really is what went on) and the boy who overdosed with his name on the prescription... he tells her all of this which was enough for Nina to somehow want to kiss him and yet... never bothered telling her about his big secret (substance abuse). So as I watch him grab the shovel and start helping her with the snow, then give her honest details of a bad experience back in LA, I cannot conjure up much sympathy knowing what is to come with his true demon he never told Nina about during this time period. The scene when Andy and Delia come inside the house after the game and Delia is on Andy's back was too cute for words. Delia looked so adorable in her uniform. I love that she plays hockey. It sucks she feels the need to give it up. It also sucks she doesn't play in Minnesota because if she did, she would be on a girls team in the State of Hockey (Minnesota Hockey nickname). Girls hockey programs have been in this state for decades. Emily VanCamp was extra brilliant in this episode. Every, single, scene she blew me away. Andy and Amanda: Please show me where the nearest bathroom is, so I can promptly hurl from feeling ill. What is the purpose of this relationship? To make everyone feel sick? The minute they hit the screen together, I am busy trying to come up with new swear words that I can shout at the TV. This affair needs to end. Now. Of course we know when it ends but just saying... it is so nauseating. As I mentioned above while watching... they joke and laugh about their affair, Amanda uses John once again (medication) while calling Andy as Delia can hear for a sexual affair moment once again, they laugh while nicknaming their sick evil affair SOUP, Amanda had the nerve to offer to talk to Delia about getting her period. What a disgusting joke they are and it doesn't get any easier rewatching. They literally joke about how they can hardly talk because they have 55 minutes for Soup. Amanda basically put a victim tag on top of her head and almost came across as it was perfectly fine she was with Andy because she needed it, deserved it. We never saw her struggle in the least. Then again, I feel like the Andy/Amanda relationship is really about Andy and what he was going through... bleeding ulcer, affair with a married woman who happened to be the wife of one of his paralyzed patients. Horrible. Andy was punishing himself over the guilt he felt due to the Madison pregnancy situation and Ephram not knowing. So I think Amanda was basically another bleeding ulcer if that makes sense... the writer's didn't really care if we connected with her since it was all about seeing what Andy was doing to himself. I read that Greg Berlanti was shocked so many people hated Heche's character. Like, really, Greg? Are you serious, dude? Amy calling Ephram The Stepford Wife was classic. Ephram telling Amy he is being the supportive boyfriend was so sweet. Amy was eating up all the attention he was giving her. I was so giddy just by how these two looked at each other. Such an intimacy in their eyes. Loved this exchange: Quote:
Ephram and Delia: I thought it was so cute how Ephram called Delia... "Rocket Brown" and I was laughing hysterically when Ephram screamed for Andy once he realized that Delia had female issues. Andy and Delia: Seems Andy continues to make dumb move after dumb move and telling the coach about Delia's situation was disgusting on his end. What an idiot. He had to have known the coach is abrasive before telling him and he thought nothing of embarrassing Delia in the end which was so utterly uncalled for. Delia wanting Julia was Vivien at her best. This is such a confusing moment for a girl so of course Delia would think of Julia. Emily: She is one brilliant dancer! Wow! I found myself feeling cheated for only getting to see her dance for a short bit. How she gets on her toes is beyond me! Man, is she talented. Watching this episode, it is more than obvious that in addition to her flawless acting, this girl could have continued on with her dance and had an outstanding career doing that instead. She is multi-talented. I feel blessed Emily VanCamp played Amy Abbott. Harold and Amy: I loved how wise Harold is as his words to her were all knowing and loving. He knew what she was doing was excessive and told her as much, but still supported what she was doing. I think it is sad that Amy missed two years of dance because she was in the hospital torturing herself to the point of ultimate depression and anxiety over Colin's situation. She was not able to just dance in high school and do normal teen things. I think about her S1 scenes in the hospital alone and it is so sad knowing she should have been dancing and smiling. S2 scenes in her deep depression not able to once again dance or have fun. It is heartbreaking. This episode took me back to how bad Amy had it during the first two seasons. I am also reminded of what is it come in a short time period in S3 too. Ephram and Amy on the phone: Ephram's pep talk to Amy before her try out was so cute. I loved how he told her that if he got into his car right then, he could probably make it in time, with an adorable smile on his face. Too cute. Ephram offering her cookies was so sweet. I love how many times with these two, Amy will bring up something serious in a blunt way, that will throw Ephram off guard and he will start to respond in a bumbling sort of way. This happened as she mentioned she might have to go off the pill. This comment was significant because it proves that Ephram and Amy are still sleeping together on a regular basis. Their communication was phenomenal. Ephram's talk to her about how she can be whatever she wants to be was marvelous. As an audience, we needed these things before Madisongate happens as we are convinced and understand how meant to be Ephram and Amy are because they work so perfectly together with this constant emotional, romantic, and spiritual connection swirling around. We know they are able to get through anything eventually together due to their unstoppable bond. Jake and Nina: I cannot find it in me to like them because I know what is it come. But the big thing I realized during this episode watch is how Jake is not honest with her about his past in the least. We are lead to believe he is pouring out his heart over his practice in LA and only because he thought his ex might have told her. But Jake never takes it to the ultimate truth and reveals to her that he had issues with substance abuse that we see later on. He was not fully honest with Nina. Bright and Amy: Even though Bright's screen time was short I still loved their sibling bickering about the remote/television. I laughed when Bright told his parents he could go talk to her since he has failure nailed. Amy mentioning Bright should get his own place is foreshadowing as well. Ephram and Amy: Couch scene. Outstanding. They are so cute together. They just "look" like they belong together. It is like they are a well-oiled machine. Everything is in sync and in fine working condition. The love between these two is so evident. They don't need to be physically intimate in an obvious way to see how much they love each other. I also love how they sit there and debate what kind of food they will get for take out. I just love seeing something so simple and beautiful. Imagine them ten years from this time period married discussing what to eat on a cozy Saturday night. I love this. Amy and Delia: One of my favorite scenes, ever, on this show. Sisterly bond flowing all the way during this amazing scene. If you really listen to how incredibly amazing the words they exchange actually are, it is simply perfection. Hands down, the best moment of the episode was the Amy and Delia scene. I melt during the entire conversation. They have so much chemistry together as you feel such an immediate "sisterly" bond between them. Their conversation is precious. Every. Single. Word. It was so appropriate that Amy was the "female figure" for Delia. The best scenes are meant to be last and there is a reason why this scene was given the honor. Delia has both Nina and Edna but Amy is a true sister. We did not view many scenes between them throughout the series (they had the scene in S1 Is There A Doctor In The House?) but what little we did get is profound. I also love in this episode how Andy mentioned Nina and Edna as the obvious choices, but it was Amy who is there for Delia. We are meant to understand that these two will be very close as Delia gets older. This scene is foreshadowing. Quote:

My thoughts....
Cute that Hannah is hanging out with the gang.. Edna has the greatest critical "looks." I would hate to be on the receiving end! I forgot about Cameron. Girls have to stop being so pushy...get the hint! Stop being annoying...Jake is a doctor and has to get back to the office! No time to play with you. Amanda....stop calling the Brown home. These pushy women! Grrrrrrrrrr Oh No!! How many times do these two have to break up? Remember your ulcer, Andy! Gee, Amanda, talking is just not enough for you....huh? Your mullet is getting longer, Ephram. What is it about these nasty recruiters and instructors?!? Did they all take a course on how to crush a young person's dreams? It looks like Amy is going to go by the way of Ephram...going in head first into practicing non-stop! Poor Andy. Nina should have taken Delia shopping. Thank God for Judy Blume! Cameron keeps popping up like a dirty penny! So nervy. Who else shows up unannounced early in the morning at someone's house? Thank God Nina has a neat house! They have gay men in Everwood? She's ignorant and nervy. Now Amy has to feel badly about her weight? That instructor is despicable. Amy would have been adorable as a Carrot! I agree with you, Harold. I don't believe that being a ballerina is necessarily Amy's true passion. That is sweet that Jake doesn't like to hurt people's feelings, but sometimes you just have to. Amy is definitely the prettiest girl at that audition. The instructor is just too mean...he could have given Amy time to warm up.. She didn't have to go first. Poor Delia. Don't get annoyed, Amy. I would love if someone called me a Stick! You are...no matter what the creepy instructor said! Amy, take it easy on Ephram. What do you want him to say..."I know you won't get it?" That was a wonderful pep talk, Ephram. You're right...Amy can do anything and be anything she wants to be...so many talents. You on the other hand would be a basket case in the same situation. Too much Cameron this episode. Break up with her already, Jake!!!! Ridiculous!! What the heck is wrong with that coach announcing that out loud?!? Doesn't he have daughters?!? What do you expect, Cameron? Did you actually ask Jake if he wanted you to move there? Let this be a lesson learned, Cameron, and it was very uncalled for to say that to Nina. What did Nina do to you except be a friend? Delia, don't quit the team over this. I know you want your mom. Nina, you have to keep Jake around if only to have someone take the shovel out of your hand and shovel your snow. It appears that everyone who goes to Everwood to get away ends up finding a place where they could stay. Sweet talk, Jake. I believe you have won Nina's heart. Being a good kisser also helped! Amy didn't get in and it was so sweet of Bright to offer to talk to her. "I'm all about failure." Awe...... Oh No! I'd rather see Cameron again than Amanda. Yuck!!! We don't need you to talk to Delia, Amanda!! Delia found her person.....Amy!!!!!!! We just never got enough Amy/Delia moments! Recurring theme...Don't give up your dream in case you may one day regret it. Good episode which included some annoying elements (characters). Last edited by everwoodfan52; 03-27-2022 at 08:39 AM |

I feel like this episode for Amy was more about realizing what she lost two years prior due to the Colin situation and the aftermath of his situation. She gave up so many things and it made her sad and frustrated. Quote:

Which is why I blame Andy. Obviously he had no right saying a word but he also understood the personality of this coach, to be sure. So why on earth is he setting his own daughter up like that? Quote:

Delia, move to Minnesota and play actual girls hockey! Hannah is from Lakeville, Minnesota… she can guide you to numerous girls hockey programs and teams here and I’ll attend your games. Quote:

Andy's not his physician anymore. He's at that facility now and under the care of another physician. So she literally used that prescription like Andy was still taking care of him as code for him going over there for more cheating. Sickening. Quote:

From that moment she set up that play date thing between Delia and Charlie she has been after Andy like a serpent not stopping until she gets her prey. Not that Andy doesn't play a role, of course he does. But it's like Amanda made a decision that she was going to go for it with Andy without feeling any hesitancy, pause, guilt or remorse. She has been on the offensive ever since. Quote:

I think I would act more like the psychologist as far as wanting the deeper meaning behind it. But the thing is Amy doesn’t even know the full story. Overall though the audience understands Ephram loves only Amy in the purest way. |

I thought that that this was a good episode that followed a theme of how you sometimes have to give up something or someone in your life that no longer works for you, from a person that you no longer want to be with or a dream you once had.
The opening scene was hilarious as the camera followed a mysterious gorgeous woman stepping out of a cab and walking down the street, and everyone was wowed by her looks, including Amy, Hannah, Ephram and Bright, as Amy told the boys to close their mouths, and Bright said “I’m totally going into medicine” when she asked them where Dr. Jake Hartman’s office was, and Amy sarcastically told him that he’d have to get into college first, and Hannah said “So that’s what zero percent body fat looks like. Interesting.” We saw the mystery woman walk into Mama Joy’s where Jake was talking to Nina, and we found out that she was Jake’s ex-girlfriend, Cameron, and he didn’t seem too happy to see her at all. She seemed like a typically annoyingly perky stereotypical airhead California girl, and you could see why he seemed dismayed that she came for a visit in an obvious attempt to rekindle their relationship. We then saw Andy carrying an overjoyed Delia as her hockey team won their game, but his reverie was ruined by a coded message from Amanda saying to “make sure that John’s prescription would be ready” setting up their next illicit tryst, but this obvious ploy filled Andy with anxiety and guilt as he filmed Delia talking about her game. I was glad that Amy was so happy as she announced to her parents that she found a ballet class in Denver, but that she had to audition for it and if she got in she wouldn’t be home for dinner five nights a week, much to Harold and Rose’s dismay. I was disgusted to see Andy and Amanda in bed together, obviously in Amanda’s house, as they discussed what to call their affair, and Amanda said they should call it “soup.” I was really glad that Ephram brought Amy to the ballet class that she intended to apply to and I was glad to see him offer her support and encouragement, but the instructor, who I recognized as the actor who played Principal Green on Dawson’s Creek, was very condescending and he talked down to her and he told her she was ten pounds overweight, which appalled me as Amy/Emily wasn’t overweight at all, and he told her that she wasn’t going to make it as he told her that auditions were in one week. We saw Ephram compliment Delia about being the only person in the family with athletic ability, but Delia said “it’s here,” and a panicked Ephram frantically yelled “Dad!” Andy then took Delia to the drug store to buy different tampons and pads for her period, but even though he was a doctor, he was a typical male who didn’t have a clue concerning what she needed to get, and he offered to talk to her about this change in her life, but Delia was more concerned with being ready for her next hockey game. We saw Cameron go to see a not quite awake yet Nina as she told her that her and Jake were “basically engaged” and the plans they had for their wedding, which included a chocolate fountain, and she expressed concerns about being the only single girl over 30, and Nina told her that marriage wasn’t all it was cracked up to be sometimes as she had been married for ten years and she was recently divorced because her husband was gay, which Cameron comically expressed disbelief that someone could be gay in “macho outdoorsy land.” When Nina asked Cameron why her and Jake had broken up, she revealed that they had never, in fact, broken up, but something had happened with Jake’s practice in Los Angeles which compelled him to leave his practice and move to Everwood, but she didn’t reveal what had happened. Nina then unwittingly encouraged Cameron to move to Everwood to be with Jake, which is the total opposite of what her intentions were when she talked to her. To be honest, I thought that Cameron was way too caricatured as a totally ditsy California girl in this episode. We saw Amy frantically practicing in the cold in her garage to the point where her feet were bleeding and starving herself to get herself ready for her audition, and Harold was right when he said that she couldn’t make up for two years of not doing any ballet in one week, and that trying to do that was like trying to train for a marathon a week before the run, but Amy, determined to fulfill her sidetracked dream, refused to listen to him. This scene really concerned me because I hated how that instructor’s cruel words set Amy off into a frantic tailspin, and it also made me see how easily young women can develop eating disorders or injure themselves in reaction to harsh words like that instructor said. We saw Nina confront Jake about Cameron still thinking that they were together and Jake revealed that he wasn’t good with breaking up with people and he assumed that Cameron would get the hint when he left and didn’t try to contact her, but Nina told him that if he didn’t want to be with Cameron anymore, he needed to tell her, and Jake, wanting to avoid confrontation, asked Nina if she would tell her, which, ironically, Nina later ended up doing. Amy seemed intimidated as she tried to fill out the application at the dance class that she wanted to get into, and then the instructor wouldn’t give her a chance to warm up for her audition, so she, and we, had the feeling that her audition was destined to fail. We then saw Amy nervously waiting to find out if she had gotten into her dance class and Ephram tried his best to be supportive but Amy told him that he didn’t understand, and I loved how Ephram offered her encouragement and support as he told her that he would have fallen to pieces if someone talked to him like that instructor talked to her, but she worked harder due to it and that she was the most driven person that she had ever seen, and it was who she was and it was what defined her. I hated that at Delia’s hockey game Andy told her coach that she had her period, and her idiot coach pulled her from the game and announced it to the entire team, much to Delia’s very understandable humiliation, and putting her in a terrible position as all of her teammates made fun of her. I hated that Nina was put into the position at the diner of having to tell Cameron that Jake didn’t want to be with her and have her move there, as Jake, looking on sheepishly, couldn’t summon the courage to tell Cameron himself, and she loudly called him a selfish coward and accused him and Nina of sleeping together, which Nina denied and said that she wouldn’t want to be with Jake for, among other reasons, for what he was doing to Cameron, but Cameron wasn’t having any of it and she told Nina that she hoped that she would fall in love with another gay man, and she left in a huff. We saw Andy talk to Delia, who was mortified by Andy revealing that she had her period, and she said that she was quitting the hockey team and she didn’t want to talk to him about it, and when he asked her who she wanted to talk to and he suggested Nina, she said that she didn’t want to talk to Nina, and she tearfully replied: “I want Mom. She never would have done what you did. I want to talk to Mom,” which broke my heart, and it reminded me once again of what an incredible actress Vivien Cardone was. We saw Jake go to see Nina and he told her what had happened with his practice and that he had become “the doctor to the stars” and he would fax in prescriptions to anyone that asked, but he ended up faxing in a prescription for a young actor who ended up overdosing and dying, and his guilty feelings compelled him to leave his practice and come to Everwood. He said that Everwood was a place where he could do better and be better, and he attributed the fact that he felt that he was a better man to Nina, and she told him that he was a good man, and they shared a tender kiss, beginning their romantic relationship. We saw Amy get the phone call that she didn’t get into the ballet class that she had auditioned for, which didn’t surprise her and she took it in stride. We saw Andy tell Amanda what had happened with Delia and he missed having Julia for this moment in Delia’s life as he acknowledged that he mishandled everything, and he wished that he could find someone to talk to her about this. We saw Ephram being the perfect boyfriend to Amy as he told her that if she wanted to talk to him about not getting into her class, she could, but he would wait until she wanted to bring it up, and he said that this was how he wanted her to be when he didn’t get into Julliard, so she should take notes. I loved that it was Amy who ended up being the one that Delia talked to as they commiserated about how hard it was to be a girl and how boys had it easier than them, and Amy gave her some wonderful advice about not letting anyone intimidate her into quitting something that she loved doing, and she told her to make sure that if she did decide to leave hockey behind, it was because she wanted to or otherwise she might end up regretting it, and if she did decide to move on, sometimes in order to move on to the next great thing in your life, you have to leave the first great thing behind. I loved this scene and I wished that we had seen more scenes like this between Amy and Delia. Overall, I really enjoyed this episode, with the exception of the Andy and Amanda parts, as we saw some of the characters enter new phases of their lives. __________________
