Yes, but hot pepperment tea only tastes good with honey.

Yes, he is very proud. France is pesky...but the US is pulling away. The shooting is still not great, however, and what is it about these players and the fact that they shoot free throws worse than my 12 year old neighbor?!

LOLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL, I know it. It amazes me how something that should be so automatic is not. I used to practice free throws with my eyes closed. No joke. I would close my eyes and shoot it. The free throw is an easy stroke and you honestly shouldn't even need to concentrate on the basket all that much if you have the shooting motion nailed. You never see the women missing free throws like the men.

Very cool that she was right there. Michelle might need a shower after hugging all the sweaty players.

As strange as it sounds I drink even peppermint tea without honey. I'm trained. I had to drink disgusting tea because of my stomach (mixture of 6 herbs) without any additional things. So I drink all my tea clean. Anyway, that's not so important .

Does anyone where I can watch the volleyball match between USA and Serbia? It's not shown in my country and I want to watch it.

Hmm, about where to watch... let me PM you.

I'm sitting here waiting for the technician to come while watching the US/Columbia match from yesterday. I just heard Chastain's first comment about RB and I have to say, it was very, very nitpicky. I didn't say anything wrong at all with what the did. Even Chastain admits it was nitpicky. It really was but I still don't think Solo should have broadcasted her anger over it. I will continue to watch and hear more of Chastain's comments.

Thanks for the new thread.

So far USA and Serbia make wonderful game to watch. I'm enjoying every bit of it. The way I see it USA will win, we will see if it would be clean win.

Earlier I watched beach volleyball - Spain vs Netherlands. It was very interesting game, with a lot of twits. Netherlands started better, but Spain won in the end.

Yeah, the tie breaker is only 15 points.

South Korea just squeaked out a win in team archery. They've won six straight gold medals in that event.

Rhode won women's skeet shooting, setting an Olympic record and tying a world record by hitting 99/100 shots. That's amazing.

Koni, let me know how the match turns out. The technician is presently fixing our internet and dvr issues. Apparently it's a weak signal situation. The guy slightly made me nervous (I am shy and introverted! ) so I left and am currently heading to take my nieces out for ice cream to celebrate getting through their soccer try outs this weekend. Hopefully tech dude is done when I return.

Alan, I love the events you focus in on since you provide great feedback on sports that are more rare and difficult to understand so keep it up! LOL

Wow, on our sports radio, they're ripping Solo saying you don't poke at one of our greatest American players of all time in Chastain and tell her she needs educated on the game! She is also hired to be an analyst so her job should not only be peaches and cream. I agree.

USA volleyball team defeated Serbia and they deserve it, so congratulations! The way I see it USA are one of the favorites for gold medal. The other ones are Poland (team that I dislike ). I still haven't seen Germany, Russia and Brazil, but if they are good in shape, we're in a treat for volleyball.

I just watched badminton (women) and our player won. It's a good start for her .

P.S: Haha, I'm the same with tech guys . It's like they are sitting and trying to fix something and I'm quiet and not talking . Unless they ask me something and we start talking about software or hardware. Then I talk, because I do know some things.

The Malaysians are dominating the American team in badminton right now. It started tight, but the US made a lot of service errors and Malaysia is playing a very aggressive game that led to a 21-11 first set victory. The speed of these matches is insane. I can barely keep up with the action.

Early in the match, Montenegro is tied with the US 1-1 in their opening round water polo match. Apparently there is a professional league in Europe that most of the US player play in, but they took this year off to prepare for the Olympics. How awesome is that?

ETA: The US pulled it out 8-7. Nice victory over a quality team. Watching beach volleyball now. I was watching dressage, but I had no idea what was going on. The only horse event I like is jumping.

The US women dropped a heartbreaker to Germany in field hockey. I still don't know all the ins and outs and rules of that sport, but I like watching.

All the US beach volleyball teams have looked good. Dalhauser put on a blocking clinic just now against China.

Ariel Hsing is giving the second ranked player in the world all she can handle in table tennis.

Yes! LOL I got so nervous since my room has all the equipment he needed. He also was using my computer. I just got uncomfortable and told my dad he was there for the tech dude, so I was going to leave for a bit. LOL

He knew what he was doing since everything is fixed. He replaced a bunch of stuff and said there were several problems. He was shocked I could even get on the Internet at all based on what the issues were!

Alan, thanks for the updates! What are you watching now?

Hope Solo won't be punished

MANCHESTER, England -- Hope Solo met with the coach and captains of the U.S. women's soccer team Sunday to discuss her latest outburst of candor, a Twitter rant that did no good for the image of the squad and distracted from preparations for the upcoming game against North Korea in the Olympic tournament.

Coach Pia Sundhage said Solo will not be disciplined for the series of tweets that criticized former U.S. player Brandi Chastain's commentary during the NBC broadcast of the Americans' 3-0 win over Colombia on Saturday.

"We had a conversation: If you look at the women's national team, what do you want (people) to see? What do you want them to hear?" Sundhage told reporters at the team hotel. "And that's where we do have a choice -- as players, coaches, staff, the way we respond to certain things."

Solo rattled off four tweets following Saturday's game, upset over Chastain's criticisms of the team's defensive play.

"Its 2 bad we cant have commentators who better represents the team&knows more about the game," tweeted Solo. She also told Chastain to "lay off commentating about defending" and goalkeeping "until you get more educated" and "the game has changed from a decade ago."

Those are hardly the type of positive comments the naturally upbeat Sundhage likes to hear, especially in the middle of one of the sport's biggest showcases.

"On the field, it's OK to make a mistake. There's no such thing as a perfect game," Sundhage said. "And sometimes you make a mistake outside the field as well. Myself as well. I've regretted that I've said that or whatever, but at the end of the day if you have good teammates and recognize it and say something that we are proud of, then it is easier to prepare for the next game -- because it's all about the next game."

The meeting with Solo took place after the team arrived in Manchester, where the Americans (2-0) will play the North Koreans on Tuesday in a game that will determine pairings for the quarterfinals. Co-captain Abby Wambach said the meeting lasted about five minutes.

The team said Solo will be available for comment Monday, following a walkthrough at Old Trafford. She did take to Twitter again on Sunday, however, to respond to a reporter's tweet that she wouldn't be disciplined.

"discipline? Ha! For what! Never even a topic! We talked about our team deserving the best!" she tweeted.

Chastain, one of the most accomplished players in U.S. team history, refused to be drawn into the fray.

"I'm here to do my job, which is to be an honest and objective journalist at the Olympics, nothing more than that," said Chastain, who earned 192 caps from 1988-2004 and is best known for scoring the decisive penalty kick in the World Cup final in 1999.

Wambach said the meeting focused on the goal of maintaining a "bubble" around the team during the Olympics.

"We just wanted to get on the same page on the things that we are focused on," Wambach said. "And the things that we're going to be talking about, whether it be in the media or behind closed doors with your teammates. ... We have to appreciate different people's personalities and their opinions. However, we also want to create a bubble. We want to create some sort of symmetry in terms of what we're doing here and why we're here, and that's what we're all about."

Wambach also noted that TV commentators have nothing to do with winning gold medals.

"At the end of the day, none of it matters," Wambach said. "Because what really does matter is the results."

Sundhage said she didn't tell Solo to stop tweeting or to tone it down.

"I don't punish people," Sundhage said. "And I don't know what's right and wrong."

Five years ago, Solo expressed an opinion that made her the recipient of the starkest punishment ever dealt to a U.S. women's national team player. She was essentially kicked off the squad at the 2007 World Cup after she criticized then-coach Greg Ryan for benching her for the semifinals.

She made her way back onto the team to become arguably the best goalkeeper in team history, anchoring the gold-medal run at the 2008 Olympics and winning the golden glove award for top goalie at last year's World Cup in Germany.

Now she's a media superstar, highlighted by her appearance on "Dancing With the Stars" last fall, and she hasn't stopped making waves. Three weeks ago, she had what is believed to be the first positive drug test in the history of the program, receiving a warning over the banned substance Canrenone. She said it resulted from a premenstrual medication prescribed by her doctor.

Solo was also one of several athletes quoted extensively in an ESPN The Magazine story about sex in the athletes village during the Beijing Olympics and has also been promoting her book "A Memoir of Hope," scheduled for release two days after the London Games.

Nevertheless, Sundhage said she's not concerned about Solo's focus.

"Hope is different," Sundhage said. "What I see is one of the best goalkeepers in the world. If you look back, she's been dancing with the stars, she'd been in a lot of media, she's done this and that, and you would think, 'Well, will she ever come back to the game and will this be a distraction?' If you look at the way she played the first two games, I would say no. She's ready. She prepared. She wants to win, and she know what she needs to do."
I'm actually in the middle now since I see both sides to it.

Couple comments:

Nonstop negativity from an ex player who thinks she can still do better. About time someone told Chastain to finally hang it up. Some are sick of hearing about her and her team over and over - and then the negativity over and over about this team. Please replace her - she's the distraction.

Hope Solo needs to understand that Brandi C will be more critical on the US team than on any other squad because she fully expects this team to be better than any team she ever played on. (A high bar to say the least)

Brandi Chastain needs to understand that any criticism from anywhere will draw fire from the team members because they believe in and live for their teammates above anyone else. They don't care what Brandi did (or anyone else), and have said several times that their goal is not just to win but to redefine the sport. To them the only connection they have to Brandi C's teammates and generation is the fact that they played for the same country...

Hope can twitter whatever she wants. No problem. But she is acting more like a high school girl cat-fighting than a world class athlete.
My take is Chastain is there to analyze for sure. Though admittedly I thought she was a little harsh in her criticism. Not how she said it but WHAT she said. I thought the US defender clearing that ball instead of passing it off was just fine. I do think Hope was cool for being loyal and sticking up for her teammate, but I don't think she should have blurted it out for the world to hear. Yet I can also see where Solo and others are sick of hearing about the "Dream team" with Mia and Foudy, etc. So comparing constantly to that team has to get annoying.

Thanks for the new thread, Michelle.

I just got home and don't know what happened...but was anyone watching the US Gymnastics team tonight? What happened with one of our gymnasts?

Regarding the Hope Solo controversy...I understand why she said what she said, but I really believe she should have found a different way to impart her thoughts..perhaps privately.

ETA: Spain was eliminated by Honduras? I guess the Concacaf is not that weak after all.
