I loved the Will parts. Leave it to James Earl Jones to imbue a character with such charisma and realness to a character, even a very layered one that takes time to get to know and understand, so flawlessly with uniqueness and intrigue. It was so sweet of Will to give Ephram a musical piece that he had written for Ephram to use in his audition. The drama that followed with Ephram changing Will’s composition was very real and Will's reaction was expected given who Will is. They were both right and they were both wrong if that makes sense. The final scene between them was gorgeous, when he had Ephram play the piano without hearing the music.

Anne Heche's storyline continues to get tricky. Every time she and Andy are together, I am holding my breath. We all know how it turns out but I still get nervous and try to prevent the inevitable, almost like if I don't watch closely enough it won't appear to be as devastating, or maybe it won't happen at all. My mind is like that. I am simply afraid that Andy is going to cross that line... the line that states you don't cheat with an invalid man's wife. At the same time, Anne Heche’s acting talent cannot be ignored. Trying to not think about where this is leading, I still thought it was nice of Amanda to want to give everyone hope about her husband’s condition when she had lost all hope herself, even mentioning Colin Hart’s death. Under different circumstances, this could have been a great pairing, Andy and Amanda. The actors certainly have the chemistry. But their story was meant to be controversial and a means to show Andy's downward spiral due to the guilt he continues to carry over Madison's pregnancy that haunts him and the audience at the same time.

Bright's story is interesting to me. You can continue to see the obvious parallels between S3 Bright and S2 Amy. The Bright/Harold/Rose storyline was interesting. I was REALLY disappointed in Harold. I understand that Bright screwed up and he never should have lied, but Harold needed to let it go and move on. I will also state that it's very obvious during this rewatch how much they want to escalate Bright's sex life so it can make sense when Bright and Hannah get together. In S1 and S2, we knew Bright loved girls but it was mostly all talk and very little action. In S3, we are seeing him actually hooking up and having sex with girls. Which is fine of course, but it is obvious the writers want to emphasize this because of the upcoming Bright and Hannah storyline. It is clear they want Bright and Hannah to appear to be complete opposites when it comes to sex (and other things) which is why S3 right now is really hitting home Bright's status in this area of his life.

Back to Harold... he really shocked me given how his anger seemed to have escalated to a full rage as the episode concluded. I couldn't believe how he was acting towards Rose. I think that Bright has been shouting out in such a silent but powerful way, that all he really needs is for someone, ANYONE, to start believing in him. And Harold is not at all aware of what Bright needs. He is merely embracing the surface point of things. Bright getting fired is so minor compared to what is REALLY going on with Bright. There are layers upon layers of issues that need to be dealt with in order to help Bright yet Harold is either clueless or just doesn't care at the moment. We watched him try to help Bright at times at the end of S2 but it was more about helping "situations" and less about actually helping Bright as a whole, especially emotionally. I know a lot of people think Amy is Harold's favorite and she obviously is. However, we are seeing a perfect parallel of how Harold handles emotional moments with his children. He failed Amy, quite frankly, in S2 as she battled her very real and serious depression and currently in S3 he also doesn't care about Bright's emotional needs. It is disappointing to see. Harold was actually there for Bright back in S1 more after finding out he was driving the truck compared to how he is with Bright years/seasons later. That is not evolution at all, Harold. You can do better.

Jake had another decent episode. I know we understand how things develop, but the last few episodes have been good ones for Jake overall. I actually did appreciate his scene with Andy, and he was right when he told Andy that Amanda wasn’t the patient, and he needed to intensely investigate the cause of John’s tears before assuming that he had made a massive breakthrough.

The Epham and Amy interaction was spiritual in a S1 way that had me smiling and embracing this special pairing. I love the realness between the two. Their chemistry is amazing and it is not only the obvious stuff. Take a look at the little things... the intimacy of these characters on-screen is absolutely astounding. The little things such as the lingering gestures, the perfect timing of eye contact, the inflections and intimacy of their voices... it blows me away. And how Amy has the innate ability to just "know" what Ephram needs without him having to say a word. She passionately listened to him and as he put his head on her lap, she gently stroked his hair and listened even more. It is absolutely beautiful to watch this relationship unfold. It is the anti-soap opera type of teen romance coupled with incredible chemistry between Greg and Emily as Ephram and Amy. It cannot get any better than these two.

After all of these years rewatching I still get giddy viewing all of Ephram and Amy’s scenes. Seeing Amy just hanging out and studying while Ephram practices the piano, because they have to be together. They truly have this very real, easy, loving and sweet relationship that is built to last. The loving support that Amy gave Ephram after his argument with Will was golden, and I really adored watching her stroke Ephram’s hair when he poured out his heart to her about his feelings about Will and his feelings about music. Ephram and Amy also have such a uniquely intimate banter, unlike anything I've ever seen once again. When she told him that her father cried every time she beat him at tennis, and Ephram said “really?” and she answered “no.” :D

By far my favorite scene was the one when Ephram had his head in Amy's lap. Just the realness of that scene... Ephram venting while Amy listened and played with his hair... everything about it just conveyed a sense that this was just a slice of these characters' lives, and we just happened to be there to witness it. The realness of that scene was almost overwhelming. To watch how Amy intently and passionately listened to Ephram and looking at her eyes said it all. Amy has so much love for Ephram and she knew what he needed. She listened as she stroked his hair. Even right before Ephram put his head in her lap, I loved how they were sitting closely next to each other and Amy was gazing up at him listening to every, single word he was saying. I could feel the spiritual connection between these two just based on their expressions and energy together which was as one. They are so in sync with each other. The intimacy between the two is absolutely phenomenal. I have never seen better. The little things... the lingering gestures, the bang on perfect timing of eye contact, the inflections... the changes in their voices to suite this intimacy, completely blows me away. Greg and Emily are the perfect definition of chemistry. I have never seen two actors convey such beauty on either the small or large screen like Greg and Emily as Ephram and Amy and I know I never will. In that scene where Ephram is in Amy's lap and she is stroking and playing with his hair... it showed me more about how in love with each other they are instead of watching them start to kiss each other. This scene was passionate, real and purely amazing. Or how Amy was leaned up close to Ephram as she was gazing up at him with admiration, Soulmate feel, listening to his every word, and having even her voice sing out how much she loves him just based on her tone. These two are the masters at portraying a deep emotional, spiritual, romantic love like no other. Ephram and Amy have essentially been a pairing since the start of the series. In the very first episode they were spiritually connected and they never let go... always together, always as one and throughout everything they remained together. Even at the end of S3 and S4, they still find a way to connect and never leave each other until they ultimately reunite for good. I have never seen anything like Ephram and Amy before and I know I never will.

Excellent episode. Looking forward to the next one.

I really enjoyed this episode which followed a theme of where a series of changes in the lives of these characters caused other changes, some good, and some bad, and some of these characters reached crossroads (or tipping points) in their lives.

One development that’s really disappointed me in this season is how Bright is being depicted. There are times where he’s almost become a caricature of a sex-crazed and aimless teenager, as we saw in tonight’s episode where he got fired after being found half naked in a supply closet with a waitress by his boss. I know it was wrong for Bright to lie to his parents about being fired, but to be honest, if I was his age and I was in his position, I might have done the same thing, because it’s humiliating to be fired, and it would be especially hard for Bright to tell his parents why he got fired, because it’s always embarrassing to talk to your parents about sex, and any parent would be outraged, as Rose and especially Harold later were, that their son was fired for making out with someone in a supply closet. Still though, Bright’s actions were irresponsible, and he was wrong to lie to his parents about it, especially when he made up a story about needing to find that avenue for his future and getting serious about what he wanted to do with his life, and Rose and Harold talked about some possible job opportunities for him and I was disappointed to see that he still doesn’t seem to want to take any responsibility for his actions.

We got to see Andy and Amanda grow closer in this episode as he wanted to try yet another type of therapy on John and he mentioned Linda, who he referred to as a friend, as concurring with the treatment that he was proposing, and this was the first and only time that we found out that him and Linda were still in touch, and while I was happy to see him mention her, I also felt sad about the way she left and how Andy broke her heart. We saw Harold suggest that Andy employ a little caution in dealing with John’s case, and that hope was a dangerous thing, but Andy saw hope as a good thing, and his hope for John and his growing attraction to Amanda resonated throughout this episode.

I loved seeing Will and Ephram together again as his curmudgeonly mentor showed the pride and affection that he had for Ephram by composing a song for him to use in his audition, but we later saw that song set off a chain of events which would end their role as teacher and student.

As always, I loved watching all of Ephram and Amy’s scenes, and it’s really so sweet watching how Amy will just hang out and study while Ephram practices the piano, and they have such a loving and easy-going relationship. We saw Ephram continue to practice using Will’s composition and he told Amy that the song had some weak spots, and Amy told him he shouldn’t risk his audition on something that he wasn’t sure of. Ephram then suggested reworking some of Will’s composition, which Will called Bella Rae, and Amy thought that was a good idea. I really enjoyed seeing the humorous intimacy and teasing banter between this couple, like when she told him that her father cried every time she beat him at tennis, and he said “really?” and she answered “no.” and when Ephram said “I think I made a mistake, and Amy responded “God forbid. Where's my paddle?”

We saw that Will reacted in a harsh and outraged way when Ephram told him that he had changed a few parts of his composition, and they parted on a bad note as the stubborn pride that they both had caused them to say things to each other that they shouldn’t have said. I do feel that it was presumptuous of Ephram to change Will’s composition, but I also feel that Will overreacted when he found out what Ephram had done, but Will has a lot of pride, and Ephram inadvertently hurt that pride by doing what he did.

We saw Andy and Amanda out on a trail in the mountains with John, and Amanda hoped that the place they were at would trigger some memories in John, because that was where he had proposed to her, but when that didn’t happen, she told Andy that she already thought of John as being dead and she didn’t know what she was in love with anymore. She then asked Andy about Linda and he said that she was the first woman that he spent time with after Julia died but Linda was sick and when he found that out it changed things. I thought it was key that he never said that he loved Linda, and I still thought that it was unfair of him to basically dismiss her once he found out she had HIV. Amanda told him that she knew the Harts and she saw him at Colin’s service and it was the saddest thing that she had ever witnessed, and she said that it must have been nice to not be lonely, at least for a little while, and it looked like they were going to kiss, but then Amanda noticed that John seemed to be crying and the spell between her and Andy was mercifully broken.

We saw that Harold found out that Bright had gotten fired, and he harshly admonished him for lying to him and Rose, and as always, the drastic disparity between how Harold treats Amy and how he treats Bright was totally evident in this episode as he went way overboard in reprimanding Bright, and his overly harsh and unforgiving attitude toward Bright continued throughout this episode. I could understand that Harold was upset, but every word he said dripped with contempt and disdain for his son. I didn’t like how he also admonished Rose for pulling some strings to get Bright another job at the Clerk’s office and she said that she wanted to help Bright because he needed and deserved their help and she wasn’t going to let him make the wrong decision on his own, and I really didn’t like how he issued Rose an ultimatum and he said that if she went ahead with this she would be doing so without his consent, without his approval, and without his respect, and he held true to that ultimatum when Bright came home and he said that he had gotten the job, and when he thanked both of them for their help, Harold sneeringly told him to thank his mother because he had nothing to do with it. I really disliked the way that Harold looked down on Bright so much and how he drew a line in the sand with Rose, and just like Amy brought out his warm and caring side in the last episode, Bright and to a lesser degree Rose brought out his harshly judgmental and cold side in this episode. Granted, Bright had screwed up and he did lie to his parents, but Harold never treated Amy the way that he treats Bright, and I always found his blatant favoritism toward her versus Bright to be one of his worst characteristics.

I absolutely loved the scene between Ephram and Amy in this episode as he poured his heart out to her about what had happened with Will and how music was this pure thing to Will and that when he played piano with Will it was the only time that it wasn’t about a career or school and that he didn’t have to worry about the future or yesterday, and it was the only time he could remember why he was doing any of this, and now he didn’t have that. I loved how Ephram laid his head on Amy’s lap and she gently stoked his hair, and this scene between them was so beautiful and so wonderful and it perfectly illustrated how much they loved each other and how in sync they were with each other. I can honestly say that this scene is my favorite scene of all time on this show. I just loved it and I loved seeing the love and tender affection between Ephram and Amy. Greg and Emily did an incredible job in depicting a young couple in love, and I never saw so much chemistry between two people as I saw between these two amazing actors. There are so many subtle things between them that I pick up on every time I watch one of these episodes, and I simply love this couple.

I liked the conversation between Jake and Andy as Andy reminisced about taking the subway to work and how no one on the train cared about him and what he was doing, but there in Everwood, everyone paid attention to what he was doing and they either loved him or hated him depending on what he did, and right now he was “on top” again due to his apparent breakthrough with John, but he wasn’t sure if this breakthrough really was a breakthrough, but he wanted it to be a breakthrough for Amanda’s sake. I thought that Jake was right when he told Andy that Amanda wasn’t the patient, and he need to thoroughly investigate the cause of John’s tears before assuming that he had made a breakthrough.

We then saw Andy go to see Amanda, who was throwing a party at her house to celebrate the progress that John had made and he sadly told her that he didn’t feel that John’s tears were due to emotion but they were due to a reaction to the medicine that he was on and the cold conditions in the mountain. Amanda then expressed her frustration at the situation she was in but she told Andy that she kept up hope for everyone, including him, and that she wanted him to find success again and to forget about what happened with Colin, and she wanted him to have hope for every patient that came through his door. We saw their growing attraction as they gazed at each other intensely, and it was very obvious where the writers were taking this story. I didn’t like seeing this development between Andy and Amanda and I wish that neither one of them had gone down this illicit path.

I was happy and relieved to see Will come to see Ephram in his studio and he asked him to play the reworked Bella Rae, and Ephram apologized for springing those changes on him, but Will admitted that the changes he made had improved the composition, and he told Ephram that he needed to feel the music and not just hear it, and Ephram and he admitted that he needed to find a new piano teacher and Will referred him to someone he could work with, as he had run out of tricks to show him, and that Bella Rae was always a going away present, and that Ephram was on the path and he couldn’t let get in the way. He then said in response to Ephram’s statement that he wasn’t going anywhere that he saw his future and it wasn’t there, and I saw this scene between them as incredibly bittersweet.

Overall, I thought that this was another excellent episode of this show and it seemed to represent a watershed in the lives of some of these characters as events that took place set the course for their future.

I loved the scenes between Ephram and Will and I agree that they were both right and wrong. Ephram had improved to the point where he could objectively look at Will's piece and saw that it needed some changes, but he should have realized that making those changes would hurt Will's pride and he almost ended up losing Will's friendship forever, and as it was, he ended up losing Will as a piano teacher, but it seemed like they both realized that Ephram needed further instruction and help that Will couldn't give him. I was glad that they parted on a good note though.

Like you, part of me saw where this was leading and I wish it wouldn't happen and that they wouldn't cross that line, but Anne Heche and Treat Williams really played off each other well and you could understand Amanda's loneliness and frustration as she had lost the man her husband had been long ago and she felt that the situation they were in was hopeless.

Completely agree. I was kind of shocked Ephram even asked Amy if she thought Will would mind if he toyed around with his music. Of course Amy wouldn't really know the exact answer but Ephram should have known. LOL. But then again, like Will clearly stated, giving Ephram that piece of music was a parting gift. He was always leaving so Ephram going there didn't change his intention. But yes, I see both sides because the music didn't work for Ephram regardless even if it was good. Ephram had the maturity, passion and determination to work through it. The spark in his eye was there. That spark didn't exist in S2 because Ephram was a little boy worried about a babysitter. We are seeing a well-rounded mature, intelligent Ephram in S3 as he uses his relationship with Amy as a way to embrace all aspects of his life, even taking risks with his piano due to passion. I loved to see it and deep down, so did Will. It was a great storyline between Ephram and Will in this one and I loved the final scene so much.

It is a very complicated storyline. You can tell what Amanda especially said about Colin and how much it hurt Andy really resonated with Andy. He kept gazing at Amanda to signal he had been waiting for someone to utter those words until this time.

Exactly. Even though Rina was basing Hannah and even Bright and Hannah (she crushed on Bright types) it is quite clear the intention was for Bright and Hannah to make it to romantic relationship status but have all kinds of problems once it arrived. We saw that take place. I feel like a lot of fans were disappointed that Bright and Hannah didn't reunite romantically in the series finale. I believe it was the right choice for a couple of reasons: 1) I do not believe the Bright and Hannah love story was meant to be long-term. 2) Two pairings from the start of the series were getting the spotlight in the series finale and that was Ephram and Amy and Andy and Nina. Not to mention, father/son focus. So reuniting Bright and Hannah romantically would have attempted to water down what we were seeing taking place between Andy and Nina and Ephram and Amy and the writers thankfully weren't willing to go there.

But to me as I rewatch it is crystal clear not only are Bright and Hannah mismatched, but they were never set up to be soulmates or twin flames, let alone even sustaining something long-term. I really wish they would have remained friends and nothing more. I feel I would have gotten more out of their friendship scenes.

Quote:

Harold was absolutely horrible to both Bright and Rose in this episode, and while I could understand that he was angry with Bright for having lied to him and Rose and frustrated with Bright's lack of direction, his horribly disdainful and contemptuous attitude toward his son and his the ultimatum he gave Rose showed, like you said that he doesn't handle emotional moments with his children well at all, and in many ways he failed both Bright and Amy.
Definitely. He really came across as scary around the end of the episode. He threatened Rose when you think about it. After Rose didn't listen and still gave Bright the job opportunity, Harold looked dark and burned, almost like he wanted to get back at Bright and Rose in that last scene. It was really bizarre.

Yes I did like Jake in this episode and his advice to Andy was really good.

I absolutely loved all of Ephram and Amy's scenes in this episode and I just loved seeing how much in love and perfectly in tune they were with each other. They were just pure perfection and like you, I've never seen a couple as wonderful as they were and I know I never will again.

I feel the same way!

Yes, it was so beautiful. The title of the episode flowed perfectly. I also love how that secondary theme (and one that is cemented as classic Everwood) is HOPE. Hope flows throughout every episode of the series in some form, but we really feel hope all over the place in this one. Especially amazingly during the Andy and Amanda scenes. I cannot stand what happens next with them but the chemistry between the actors and some of the content and quality is so thick with believability you cannot help but pause and take in what is being stated as it applies to real life so often.

Completely agree with your Bright take.

It could be that I am older and more mature but I am able to appreciate these Andy and Amanda moments more simply listening to what is being exchanged. It is quite good stuff if you can put aside what happens later on between them.

I loved seeing Will and Ephram together again as his curmudgeonly mentor showed the pride and affection that he had for Ephram by composing a song for him to use in his audition, but we later saw that song set off a chain of events which would end their role as teacher and student.
I really wish we would have seen Will more in S2. For as much as I love Will, it does seem like the time has come for Ephram to move on from him and get a new teacher as he continues on with his musical path. But I will always believe we missed a chunk of how things got to this place in S3 because S2 was devoted to pure trash concerning Madison and Ephram's obsession with her. So many of the main dynamics of this series suffered and were ignored as a result of gross Madison and Ephram, and Ephram and Will were a secondary pairing that certainly were affected as well. It is really frustrating thinking about this many years later.

Quote:

  These two are the very best. It doesn't get any better.

Quote:

We saw that Will reacted in a harsh and outraged way when Ephram told him that he had changed a few parts of his composition, and they parted on a bad note as the stubborn pride that they both had caused them to say things to each other that they shouldn’t have said. I do feel that it was presumptuous of Ephram to change Will’s composition, but I also feel that Will overreacted when he found out what Ephram had done, but Will has a lot of pride, and Ephram inadvertently hurt that pride by doing what he did.
It was all real and I loved every minute of it.

Quote:

The only part of that scene that bothered me when he told Amanda about Linda's status is when he said she was SICK. I know it was a general term but she actually wasn't sick when you think about it. I guess maybe I am seeing how HIV is basically treated like a Diabetes now... careful follow up, medications, and you do not die from it because it is 100% treatable.

But when he said Linda was sick I just think it felt weird. She really wasn't sick, she was handling and battling a chronic illness, yes, but she wasn't actively sick. I guess we also are reminded of Andy almost holding her HIV status against her during tough moments in S2... he literally broke up with her too as a result. So I suppose it makes sense Andy told Amanda that Linda was sick given how he behaved in S2.

Quote:

I do agree with everything you are saying about how he treats Bright, but I still cannot get over how Harold treated Amy when she had Clinical Depression. He was borderline abusive and cruel to Amy and certainly didn't act like she was his favorite then. In many ways how he treated Amy in S2 was even worse than what he's ever done to Bright. It was that bad. She begged him for help and medication and he made her believe she was damaged, diseased, and could control everything. He made her feel like an addict almost. It was vile. He is lucky she didn't try to take her own life given how he made her feel. Any psychologist would be appalled over Harold's actions and literally classify HAROLD as a problem for Amy in S2. Getting over her depression in S2 was delayed because of how Harold treated her in an abusive way and it was really difficult to watch. He never even apologized and in this very episode he even brought it up! :irked: He acted like he learned nothing when he made it seem like Amy was "the problem" in S2 and it disgusts me. I was shocked he brought it up to Rose in this episode trying to justify his actions. Infuriating. He really never learned from what he did to Amy in S2. Wow.

Harold definitely doesn't treat either of his children with kindness and understanding at times during the worst moments of their lives.

Quote:

Quote:

Jake has definitely had a few good episodes in a row that make you forget about how long he actually stays in Everwood.

Quote:

They would have been so much better off as friends. We could actually appreciate the acting, writing, quality we are seeing between Treat and Heche much more efficiently if they wouldn't have had Andy and Amanda have an affair. It sucks but it is what it is.

Quote:

We needed more Will and Ephram in S2! It continues to frustrate me while thinking about it.

Quote:

Overall, I thought that this was another excellent episode of this show and it seemed to represent a watershed in the lives of some of these characters as events that took place set the course for their future.
Agreed!

That's a really good point about how hope resonated throughout this episode and I did like how Amanda said that she wanted Andy to have hope for every patient that walked in his door. I just wish that they hadn't embarked on an affair.

I think that Andy referring to Linda as sick was wrong as well, because she really wasn't sick, but him saying that could also reflect how people viewed HIV at that time. This was in 2004, and I think that many people still viewed HIV in a dire way and almost as a death sentence, which was wrong, but I think that mentality existed.

My Thoughts....

That waitress seems more Bright's type...Uh Oh...definitely his type! You blew it, Bright. Now who's going to marry the Ketchup bottles??

Amanda certainly makes herself at home in Andy's office. I'm still wondering how much her husband and hear and understand what is going on around him.

I love Will and I definitely missed piano. Not enough of it on this show.

Bright, you're certainly lucky that your parents have alot of connections.

It's so cozy having Amy on the coach in Ephram's studio while he practices piano. She's got her book and it appears that this is all the two of them need to be happy! All Ephram has to do is talk piano and Amy is satisfied!
Amy, your feelings about Jazz are exactly my feelings! lol You look adorable even when your eyes are rolling.

The scenery in Everwood is so stunning.

I can understand Will's hurt feelings when Ephram made changes to his song. He is a proud man and definitely human. The ending of his argument with Ephram was very sad, because it reminded me of Ephram's argument with Bright. How many people can Ephram lose? :(

Did you actually believe you weren't going to get caught, Bright? Thank God for your mom. She has always had much more compassion for you. Harold should get a job in the Tough Love organization.

John is probably crying because he sees you flirting with Andy, Amanda.

So beautifully said, Ephram. Amy is so attentive and impressed and she always has the perfect lap for you to rest your head on. Plus....she likes your hair. lol

You wouldn't miss the subway these days, Andy. Lots of homeless and lots of crime.

There's nothing wrong with nepotism, Harold. Do you want Bright not to have a job?? Seriously, Harold is often so ridiculous and adamant in his principles and opinions. Sometimes he just has to bend a little.

Andy, you do realize that Amanda is going to continue with John's treatment just so that she can keep seeing you.

Understandable that Ephram needs to move on from Will, but so sad to see none the less. I will definitely miss Will's grumpiness and presence on this show. Such a asset.

 I wonder what the casting process was like? Actress: So what do I need to do in this episode? Producer: You need to flirt with and make out with Chris Pratt! Actress: That's it? Producer: That's it. {Shows her Chris Pratt's picture}. Actress: I'm in!

That was a stupid move on Bright's part, but many years ago, a guy I worked with made out with a girl in the supply closet, so it happens, but in their case, they didn't get caught because the person who saw them just laughed it off, which Bright was hoping his boss would do.

I agree! Bright has always been jerky, but has shown signs of integrity as well. This careless irresponsible behavior is because of his hopeless state in life and I believe a call for help.

They are so wonderful together. Will can dish it out, and Ephram is more than happy to take it. Will was what Ephram needed, but they've gone as far as they can go...unfortunately.

These two are so easy to watch. No expectations, no high maintenance...merely contentment.

That's the thing I hated. They say that discipline is love. This was not love. This was contempt.

It does make sense. Ephram was right to want to change the piece and make it perfect for his audition, and Will was right to feel offended. I guess what should have been done was for Ephram to ask Will if he could change it, but I'm not sure that Will wouldn't be angry anyway! It was kind of a lose lose situation.

I was holding my breath when Amanda was pouring her heart out about no longer feeling affection from John and again holding my breath when Andy and Amanda were in her kitchen. I thought that they were going to go at it there! Yeah...it's coming.

Bright's story is interesting to me. You can continue to see the obvious parallels between S3 Bright and S2 Amy.
There is a parallel. Amy was depressed season 2 and Bright is depressed season 3. It's just that Bright's depression is not as evident as Amy's. And it's interesting how Rose and Harold reacted so differently to their children.

It was a really nice scene. I'm glad they finally are acting like professional adults and can actually talk to each other respectfully.

I agree. Watching these two is so beautiful. They take care of each other's needs wonderfully and know what to say and how to touch. Amy stroking Ephram's hair while he was lying on her lap was exquisite.

I agree.

I agree! Bright has always been jerky, but has shown signs of integrity as well. This careless irresponsible behavior is because of his hopeless state in life and I believe a call for help.

Bright's character really seemed to regress in this season, which is sad to see.

Absolutely.

It was sad that this episode represented the end of their association.

It really was contempt and I hated the way that Harold looked down on everything Bright had done with a sneering, condescending and contemptuous attitude.

Exactly. I loved how she gave the extended family and friends hope too even if it was 1%. Hope was a great secondary theme in this one.

Thanks!

I agree.

I really wish that we could have seen more of Will in Season Two as well instead of wasting time on Madison and Ephram's unhealthy obsession with her. I still find it so incredible that they got a legendary actor like James Earl Jones to play Will.

Yes! I cannot believe it either. I guess it's possible he was only available for a limited number of episodes so even without the babysitter torturing Ephram (and most fans as well) we still wouldn't have seen Will much.

I will always wonder about three things:

1. Was James Earl Jones only available for the amount of episodes he was in or could he have done more episodes?
2. Did Marcia Cross state she wanted to leave and only be in one season of Everwood or did Everwood decide Linda's story was only meant to be one season out of four?
3. Why did the character of Laynie leave our screens after only two seasons? Was it Nora wanted to move on or did Everwood tell her she wouldn't be in the last two seasons?

Quote:

It really doesn't get any better.

I did too.

Yes, how people viewed HIV in 2004 was quite different, that is for sure. I remember in the 90s how people viewed HIV when Magic Johnson was diagnosed.

That's an excellent point. Harold really didn't do well at all in handling real issues involving his children, and he handled Amy's clinical depression horribly, and he handled Bright's situation horribly as well.
 I read some past comments from others stating they thought Harold was a terrific father. Stunned. He was not a great father all around. He loved his children, he was always there, but he was awful to Bright and Amy at times. Andy had faults but never treated Ephram and Delia like Harold treated Amy and Bright during serious moments.

That said, Harold was there when Bright revealed he was the driver of Colin's accident. He was also there for Amy when she was heartbroken and confused over what was going on with Ephram at the beginning of S3.

So Harold has been there during tough times. But when he messes up such as Amy's S2 depression or Bright so lost and confused in S3, he really handles it poorly.

They're just so wonderful.

It was one of the rare times when Jake wasn't annoying!

I would have much preferred that Andy and Amanda had remained friends instead of embarking on an illicit affair right under her husband's nose, but like you said it is what it is.
Exactly.

I completely agree.

That waitress seems more Bright's type...Uh Oh...definitely his type! You blew it, Bright. Now who's going to marry the Ketchup bottles??

:lmao:

That’s a great point. Bright had more chemistry with his coworker. Yes, it was superficial and a physical attraction first but they seemed to fit much better. Reckless and stupid they were, however. LOL. They didn’t realize the laughing in the closest was going to draw attention to the door?

Quote:

Amanda certainly makes herself at home in Andy's office. I'm still wondering how much her husband and hear and understand what is going on around him.
Right? I cringe seeing the scenes where they are strolling with John in his wheelchair while flirting. He’s not a vegetable. :irked:

I love Will and I definitely missed piano. Not enough of it on this show.
100%.

Bright, you're certainly lucky that your parents have alot of connections.
I was thinking the same thing.

They are SO CUTE. :in_love:

The scenery in Everwood is so stunning.
So true. I always notice the majestic scenery in every episode. One of those beautiful added extras of Everwood.

I can understand Will's hurt feelings when Ephram made changes to his song. He is a proud man and definitely human. The ending of his argument with Ephram was very sad, because it reminded me of Ephram's argument with Bright. How many people can Ephram lose? :(
:( I was sad when Ephram suggested they could still play together casually and Will is like no. WHY not?

Quote:

Did you actually believe you weren't going to get caught, Bright? Thank God for your mom. She has always had much more compassion for you. Harold should get a job in the Tough Love organization.
:lmao: Exactly.

Quote:

John is probably crying because he sees you flirting with Andy, Amanda.
:rotfl: I truly wonder if the writers wanted us to feel weird for even a second. Seriously. Some of their scenes are set up in a way where it seems like the audience is meant to feel very uncomfortable.

Quote:

So beautifully said, Ephram. Amy is so attentive and impressed and she always has the perfect lap for you to rest your head on. Plus....she likes your hair. lol
:lmao:

I’m with his soulmate… I like Ephram’s hair too! :lmao:

You wouldn't miss the subway these days, Andy. Lots of homeless and lots of crime.
Times have changed.

Quote:

There's nothing wrong with nepotism, Harold. Do you want Bright not to have a job?? Seriously, Harold is often so ridiculous and adamant in his principles and opinions. Sometimes he just has to bend a little.
I agree, especially in this case… Rose has a political career and Harold is a healer. It is their young late teenager/early 20s son. It is not like they are giving an advantage to an adult family friend. In addition, both Rose and Harold take care of the town. They DESERVE to use their connections and status sometimes if it helps one of their children while they’re helping the entire town!

Quote:

Andy, you do realize that Amanda is going to continue with John's treatment just so that she can keep seeing you.
Right?

Understandable that Ephram needs to move on from Will, but so sad to see none the less. I will definitely miss Will's grumpiness and presence on this show. Such a asset.

I was thinking about his "genius" throughout this entire episode in particular. Not only was he passionate about his music but even wanted to attempt to write. Even if it was insensitive, I still love Ephram's passion and wanting to "collaborate" with Will. I love when Amy called him a "genius" too. She might not understand music and she loves to banter with him when it is over her heard, but she fully supports his talent and even finds it hot.

That was a stupid move on Bright's part, but many years ago, a guy I worked with made out with a girl in the supply closet, so it happens, but in their case, they didn't get caught because the person who saw them just laughed it off, which Bright was hoping his boss would do.
I was wondering the same thing... was it even necessary to fire Bright and most likely, the girl? It was dumb but they didn't do anything severely criminal. If they stole money, were rude to customers, I could see instant firings. Even this boss kind of half-smiled (sort of) while realizing what was going on before opening the door. I would have thought a strong warning was more necessary over instant firing. Bright was a good worker.

But I think the point regardless is Bright was doing "reckless things" because he wasn't happy overall with his life. He wanted to get fired essentially maybe without realizing it.
