I watched the episode last night. I seriously was in a bad mood after viewing the episode for as weird as that sounds. Thoughts coming soon.

Thoughts While Watching

- Harold is talking to Ephram who is in his house on his couch and Ephram acts like he doesn't care that the father of the girl he loves understands that he impregnated a woman and he doesn't feel uncomfortable at all. Very strange. If I am in this position, I would be so uncomfortable and embarrassed seeing Harold. Ephram could not care less and even rips Andy in front of him.

- Infinity necklace dangling... oh Amy, you are about to be treated like garbage by Ephram. He even looks like he cringed when she got close to him. It made me uncomfortable how he's immediately acting with Amy and he doesn't even know yet she found out two seconds before he left for NYC.

- Andy with Linda, Amanda, but where is Delia? You have been ignoring her for years, Andy.

- Andy, you are so jealous of Nina and Jake. Everyone in the room knows this, including Jake, it seems.

- Cute that Bright got Hannah at the airport.

Quote:
BRIGHT: I can't believe you knew the word alabaster in the fourth grade. It's probably spelled right too, huh?

HANNAH: It's so weird reading those now. I found one thing actually.
^ Rina is totally Hannah.

- Ephram is consumed, for sure, but he doesn’t even care how Amy feels about this nightmare that all could have been avoided if he would have listened to his father. It is so horrible.

- Harold telling Amy that she didn’t sign up for this is so true. Amy didn't deserve this.

- Nina knows Andy is jealous.

- Andy is so clueless with Delia.

- Poor Amy, this is not your burden, Amy.

- Handle it alone, good idea, Ephram. Way to treat Amy like a pile of trash. Again, he is going there before even finding out Harold told Amy about the baby.

- Andy taking things out on Delia is sickening as well.

- Vivien Cardone shines in the scene with Delia breaking down, upset with Andy.

- Rose looks terrible, according to Bright. Foreshadowing.

- Harold/Hannah had lunch.

- Bright and Hannah fight… she does have a terrible family situation. Bright is wise though. He can see what's inside her heart fairly effortlessly.

- Nina and Andy talk. Nina knew Andy was troubled. They just always find a way to drink some coffee together and have a discussion. If only they would get their destined romantic relationship going already.

- Wow the Ephram and Amy fight is worse than I remember. I despise Ephram in this scene so much. DESPISE:

Quote:
[Cut to Ephram's studio - Ephram is lying down on the couch. The place is a mess, it looks like he has been living out of the studio. Amy walks in elated.]

AMY: I am a goddess. (closes the door and walks over to Ephram) Do you remember Chris Templeman? Guy from Colorado A&M who tried to recruit you?

EPHRAM: Uh, I didn't apply there. Remember, another one of my dad's brilliant ideas.

AMY: Whatever. I remember you saying about him is that he loved you of course and that he grew up in Long Island, graduated from Juilliard, but didn't like the touring so he got into teaching.

EPHRAM: Do you remember everything I say 'cause it's a little scary?

AMY: Anyways, I called him. Told him what happened - the short version, don't worry. He remembered you. I got him to Juilliard and you have another audition in three days.

[Ephram looks shocked.]

EPHRAM: Omigod!!

AMY: I know, you can worship me now.

EPHRAM: I love you, Amy.

AMY: I love you too.

[Ephram gets up from the couch and starts to pace.]

EPHRAM: But I-I can't go. I'm, uh, going to Marin County. I've already bought my ticket.

AMY: I thought you decided not to?

EPHRAM: I never said that.

[Amy shakes her head in disbelief.]

EPHRAM (CONT'D): Look, I'm sorry, if you'd told me sooner...

AMY: Ephram, listen to me, you-you have to go to New York. You just need to change your ticket.

EPHRAM: Well, I-I can't change my ticket. I already bought it.

AMY: Well, then unbuy it. Ephram, this is your future - New York, Juilliard.

[Amy gets up and walks over to him. She is getting aggravated by Ephram's attitude.]

AMY (CONT'D): You're getting a second chance here. You have to go be the piano genius that you were supposed to be.

EPHRAM: Yeah, but that's not who I am any more.

AMY: Yes, it is. Omigod, do you know how hard I worked to get you this audition?

EPHRAM: Well, I'm sorry you went through all the trouble if you'd told me sooner I could've explained...

AMY: Explained what? That you've completely lost your mind.

EPHRAM: Explained to you that every time I think about New York, I get sick and every time I look at a piano I get nauseous.

[Ephram sits back down on the couch.]

AMY: Okay, you know what, Ephram, you need to stop. You need to stop and focus and remember what your life is about. This life. Not the life that you didn't get. And I know that you should've gotten to choose for yourself, but you didn't and it's over and you can't wallow in it forever.

EPHRAM: It's been a week.

AMY: You're not going to get another chance at Juilliard, do you understand that? God, this is exactly why I didn't tell you in the first place. I'm just trying to protect that shot and now you're throwing it away again. I don't understand you.

EPHRAM: Didn't tell me what? (stands up) You knew.

AMY: No. I mean, yes, I-I knew that she got pregnant. I found out right before you left, but uh... My dad...

EPHRAM: Your dad knew?

AMY: I was gonna tell you, Ephram. I was going to but I didn't want to freak you out before your audition an-and I-I obviously didn't think that you randomly bump into Madison on the streets of New York and I didn't know your dad's part in it.

EPHRAM: You knew and you didn't tell me.

AMY: I was going to though. Don't you remember? I told you, Ephram, we need to talk, but it can wait.

EPHRAM: How could this wait? How could this possibly be something that could wait?

AMY: 'Cause you had your audition - the audition you have been working so hard for all year. I was just trying to protect you.

EPHRAM: To protect me?

AMY: Don't do this, Ephram. It's not the same.

EPHRAM: It's exactly the same. You're just like him only worse because I thought I could trust you.

AMY: You can. Ephram, this is me. I was just trying to help you realize what really matters.

EPHRAM: You have no idea what matters.

AMY: Okay, fine. Hate me right now, but think about what you're about to give up. Is seeing the baby right now really that important?

EPHRAM: Right now, it's more important that you.

[Amy is shocked by Ephram's comment.]

EPHRAM (CONT'D): You should get out.

[Ephram sits on the couch and then Amy leaves silently.]
^^^ I am so troubled while watching the scene in this rewatch. It has never hit me so strongly before. Ephram is like a demon in this scene. It is not because he is upset over the sickening result of his illegal relationship with Madison either. It is his tone and how he takes everything out on Amy. Not caring about the audition Amy fixed for him even if she gave up a year to put him first for piano, telling her a baby created illegally is more important than her, and just HOW he tells her to get out... I hate it. It is not abusive but feels like it's on the border... entering slight mental abuse given how he bluntly lessens her importance in his life and then orders her out. Don't even get me started on how the "get out" sounds and feels and she just "obeys" the request and silently walks out. If I am Amy I turn to him and say words that I wouldn't regularly say to anyone and then leave without looking back.

- Harold and Amy scene is beautiful but Harold, you set Amy up without realizing it.

- Then again Ephram was treating Amy like trash before he found out Amy knew. He was ready to punish Amy well before he found out she knew two seconds before NYC.

- Heart breaks for Amy.

- Weird how Topher knew about Hannah’s dad. Her brother doesn’t want to take the test which has to put guilt on Hannah knowing she is fine and most likely, her brother is not.

- Andy and Delia scene is so cute. Andy should have focused on Delia for years now.

- Ephram looks like a psychopath in the last scene telling Andy not to worry, he will be leaving soon. It feels so chilling.

- Where does Ephram have all this money? He does not work. Unless he got money after Julia passed he’s paying for trips to SF and eventually Europe how? I guess Andy is supplying him money to be devious which is ridiculous.

- Way to not consider your stupid mistakes, Ephram, when Andy warned and begged you to stay away from the adult woman your father hired. If I am Ephram, I would feel ashamed given all my mistakes in the past and immediately tell my parents how sorry I was for thinking I knew better since I should have listened to them in the first place.

- Ephram's worst episode, by far.

Thoughts After Watching

Ephram: Ephram's world has been turned upside down in a huge way, but he looked psycho during his treatment of both Amy and Andy. Truth be told, he was treating Amy like trash well before he found out she knew about the illegal creation two seconds before he left for NYC. They were headed for a break up well before he found out, you could tell. He even cringed when she kissed him and got near him a few times too, which is so disgusting on his part. What did she do, Ephram? It is unreal how horrible he is to Amy in this episode. Sure, most guys would literally be jumping for joy that the responsibility of conceiving a child, and dealing with the reality was taken care of but not Ephram. Okay, it makes sense. But what troubles me is his inability to conjure up any rational thinking right now... even a shred. Or energetically still exhibit light instead of darkness around those who are affected by your terrible mistakes. He cannot go there. I don't doubt that his huge dream for a career in piano was never ultimately about desperately needing Juilliard, but what bothers me is how he didn't even give Amy so much as an ounce of appreciation for putting in the work to get him another audition. What also bothers me is how he is allowing Amy to fly away, his true love, who has been fully committed, loyal, and completely in love with him in an obvious way ever since that mountain scene at the end of S2 when they declared that they wanted to be together... she has been all in, 100%, putting piano first at times, just for him. The way that he treated Amy in this episode does not allow me to sympathize with him one bit. Amy is the best thing that has ever happened to him and he doesn't even care. I understand he's still shocked and in pain. Fine, but your anger should be directed at Madison and Andy, not Amy, who did nothing wrong but remain loyal to you throughout many of your ridiculous, immature, mistakes the past year. Ephram's treatment of Amy was sickening. She gave up one full year to make sure he got through that audition, Ephram, and you don't even care. The "father unknown" bit must have stung but it didn’t give you the right to treat Amy like garbage. Hey Ephram, so Amy "betrayed" you by trying to protect your future. Well let me ask you a question: When it comes out that you sent in Amy's Princeton application (and forged her essay), isn't your excuse going to be that you were trying to protect her future? Going off on Amy, the one person who continues to be there for you is vile. You didn't even bother to ask her how she was feeling over you impregnating an adult babysitter, who, at times, acted like your babysitter, because you are a minor boy and she is an adult woman which is disgusting. Amy, the one person who always supported, always wanted what was best for you, who loves you does not deserve to be treated like trash... and as mentioned, given the Princeton application it makes Ephram even more of a hypocrite. Have fun really regretting what you're doing right now, Ephram. When you told Amy to get out it might not have been abusive, but it was reaching that border of out of line mistreatment. Amy told him very clearly, reminding him that she was going to tell him something before NYC, she was going to tell him soon, it was like he disregarded all of this. Truth is, like I said, he was ready to dump her the second we viewed him on the couch of the Abbott's. He was already thinking about not wanting Amy near him. What a horrible mistake you are making, Ephram. Watching this episode makes me even more pissed Amy was the one apologizing in the series finale and not Ephram, who should have been on his hands and knees thankful that Amy could even forgive him, let alone take him back.

Bright/Hannah: Bright obviously likes her more than a friend. And we know how Hannah feels, we have for a long time. Bright reaching over her in the kitchen was adorable and you know Hannah felt it. Hannah's fourth grade diary has to be Rina-related. Especially when Bright commented on how good her spelling and writing was... that was Rina. Bright can be a sage, and in this one he was as well while reading her inner most thoughts when she was just a kid and digesting everything. Their conversation about why God spared her from not getting the disease and basically her dad almost dying was significant. So sad that Hannah's brother statistically probably has the gene. The God quest though seemed to fall a little flat compared to the other horrible stuff going on in the episode. Bright really is a better guy around Hannah and I appreciate this. I just wish it would have lasted.

Jake/Nina/Andy/Delia: Major awkwardness of Andy wanting Nina and Jake to paint Delia's room. Pure jealousy. Ever since Jake told Andy about Nina's feelings for him he's been different, even around stupid Amanda in the past. You can see it so clearly. I loved that Delia is stepping up and saying something about Andy's parenting. Funny how Ephram wants a new father yet Delia cannot seem to find the time to get in one activity with Andy and it just be the two of them. I like the new father rule though, very effective. I honestly think the show was keeping heavier interaction between Andy and Delia from happening until later on but the problem is they ran out of time when S5 never happened. Episodes like this one showcase how it was in the works and yet, should have happened long before time ran out. Delia went with the flow of things for so long that Andy was just used to Delia being okay with everything. Well not anymore! Delia... you rock! Robin's Egg Blue!

Andy/Nina: Nina gives more advice. Nina owning the room and Andy's brain once again. Nina called Andy on his ways. He's fighting with everyone else, trying to make everything right because he can't begin to make things right with Ephram. I also think she understands Andy was exhibiting jealousy at the thought of her romantic relationship turning serious with Jake.

Amy/Ephram: I loved Amy's conversation with the music dude calling him an ass-face... pure gold. I love Amy and her strength! Ephram is a self absorbed prick, even now, yes, even now. He's so stubborn that he's willing to let go of the one gift that he's been given. But it all came literally crashing down when Amy, unaware, spilled that she knew. It was not her fault, Ephram, you tool. Princeton. Princeton. Amy giving up a year for you and your pounding on a keyboard, and how stupid you were after your first NYC return when you were crying over how you performed during the summer program, and the Madison band lie... but you go there now treating Amy like dirt? Ephram chucking Amy is so vile and sickening. Has he bothered to understand what Amy Abbott looks like, both inside and out? Right on, dude, like you would ever find better. You are an idiot, completely ridiculous given the Princeton situation and everything Amy has done for you. You never even bothered to ask her how she felt about what you and Madison did together illegally. GROSS. Go to hell, Ephram, and I hate to say it, but you deserve what happens next. You are damn lucky Amy didn't move on with someone much more handsome, intellectual, mature, and kind. Damn lucky, dude. How he tells Amy to get out of his space/studio (that his father bought for him) I really felt a chill. He wasn't abusive but pretty close, especially given how he talked to Amy. He talked to her like she was beneath him and was pure trash. I honestly think I dislike him more in this episode than the one to come when he says he never saw a forever for them. This one is bad because Ephram sounds like an unfeeling psychopath. When are you going to tell Amy about the Princeton Essay, Ephram?

Hannah/Topher: Topher is sweet but just not for Hannah. Topher seems like just a kid, even compared to Bright. But props to her for asking Topher out on a date after saying she's not brave. Topher does have a cute crush on her, it's just weird how he knew about her dad actively dying and they never really discussed further. They just feel "off" but this, for right now, is what she needed... to try and move on with her life and take some chances and risks.

Harold/Amy: Harold's concern was very appropriate and I love how he told Amy she didn’t sign up for this and it’s not her burden to carry. I think he knew it was coming, Ephram’s mistreatment and he tried to save her pain. I liked the moment Harold and Amy had in the car. Tom and Emily were sparkling.

Delia/Andy: I find it sweet that Delia did forgive Andy and went into IM-land and explained to him who liked who and told Andy he could use emojis. Delia is Julia. You would hope that Andy would realize this about his daughter and that he never should have been ignoring her. Delia is a gem and Andy should have stopped focusing so much on his immature, at times, troubled, son. Delia is just as important and in my mind, at this point, way more worth investing time and effort with. Delia would never screw up like Ephram, that is for sure. She has way too much sense and sensitivity to behave inappropriately and treat others like they are trash. Imagine Delia getting pregnant in the future? It would never happen. She has far too much sense, maturity and intelligence even at her young age. She is way more mature than Ephram.

I found this episode to be very difficult to rewatch. It left me feeling angry. I feel relieved that it is over.

It's absolutely mind boggling that Ephram would not be gushing out gratitude and apologies for the imposition he is putting on the family. Ephram can be very into Ephram and often believes he is entitled.

This infinity necklace has been front and center for quite awhile so that the viewers will not forget about it. I guess seeing it every episode will make the blow of Amy giving it back to Ephram in a future episode much more relevant.

Poor Delia is like an after thought in this family. She is the wisest one of all and has to put up with all of the garbage.

OMG...he is ridiculous! And seriously...Andy has no right to blow up at Jake for knowing about Ephram and the baby. It's not Jake's fault that someone told him! Andy continues to have that bad habit of opening his mouth before his brain is engaged.

It's incredible that the fact that Ephram got another girl pregnant is not the issue at all. all he cares about are his feelings and the hell with Amy's feelings. Ephram really is a paradox. For someone who has often acted selfless with Amy he can also be so self centered with her. This is not an attractive trait. I feel sorry for him, but also want to slap him upside the head!

He just sinks into his own feelings and doesn't even consider anyone else's or their motivations.! The worst part is telling Amy that the baby is more important than she is.

We both think alike! Ephram flies out of state...doesn't tell his dad and has the money to buy a ticket?? I have a feeling he is using the emergency credit card that Andy gave him, so Andy will end up paying. I wonder who will be paying for Ephram's trip to Europe??

When Ephram feels hurt or betrayed he feels no shame. All he feels are his feelings and no one elses.

Indeed. In looking back on my thoughts, they were probably too harsh, especially since we know it all works out. But those thoughts reflect how I feel during this episode in the moment if that makes sense. I looked back on the live episode rewatch and so many were furious with Ephram, saying really bad things. I was trying to downplay it which is interesting. I was an Ephram apologist but I think lost it in the next episode. But now I am pissed like them on the other thread. MAKRO on the other thread really says it perfectly.

Bingo. That is precisely why we are seeing it nonstop. Just like Rose and her symptoms progressing, which is foreshadowing, so is the Infinity necklace.

Right? Bright is kind of the same at the Abbott's too even if he screws up and Delia does not. But there is a slight parallel. The two in Delia and Bright are sometimes after-thoughts in their own families yet they have so much to say.

He had no right. Of course Nina was going to tell Jake, too. This is her steady boyfriend now. If they were going to be around Andy and the Brown's why wouldn't she tell Jake? What also irritates me is that Andy, just now, wants to start jealousy issues with Nina and Jake? Where was he when he was otherwise consumed by Amanda and that mess? He was jealous and even complained to Amanda about Nina and Jake but then just dropped it. Now that Amanda left he wants to focus on Nina and Jake and cause tension and drama, whether he realizes it or not.

Precisely. Too bad it backfired but Amy, in theory, is 100% correct.

It was interesting how it slipped in there they went out to eat. Are they showing that Harold is a substitute father for Hannah? He was there during the gene testing so it does indicate continuity I guess.

He honestly would. He has the ability to care, but not overly care like it personally affects him as an empath... he's not an empath but has plenty of empathy for everyone around him and can find a way to logically see the light on everything. He definitely is a sage with great clarity. Imagine if Harold always treated him properly or he wasn't so tied up with Colin in the past how much more he would have spread his wings?

How have you always felt about Nina and Jake? I actually like them better this rewatch! They are not soulmates, she is meant to be with Andy, clearly, but I do like them. I am glad Nina dated someone after her horrible cheating ex-husband, and the court battle... she needed someone normal and decent to just spend time and have fun with. That is Jake. Right now, they are just fine. They get complicated later but for now, they are fine. Andy should really stay out of it. He never listened to Nina on Amanda when he should have, so why on earth is he trying to make things tense and stupid with Jake? Nina used Andy being upset over Ephram and no doubt he is upset over Ephram but there's also clear jealousy and not liking Nina and Jake going on as well.

He just sinks into his own feelings and doesn't even consider anyone else's or their motivations.! The worst part is telling Amy that the baby is more important than she is.
I hate all of this! I never noticed it before but he looked like he wanted away from Amy the second he got up at the Abbott's on the couch. He cringed literally when she went near him. So finding out Amy knew two seconds before NYC was just an excuse to officially get away from her. Sadly, he wanted away from her well before this time. He even told her he was doing it on his own before finding out she knew.

Amy's feelings were not even a tiny consideration in Ephram's mind. And the fact that She went out of her way to get him another audition which he refused is horrible. You're an idiot, Ephram! Who are you punishing???
I DESPISE that he didn't go to the original audition but then Amy gets him a brand new one and it wasn't easy going there!

Yes. How the heck does he know?
Wasn't that weird?

Absolutely adorable! Girl drama is so entertaining.

Andy felt that chill very deeply...it went right through to his bones.

We both think alike! Ephram flies out of state...doesn't tell his dad and has the money to buy a ticket?? I have a feeling he is using the emergency credit card that Andy gave him, so Andy will end up paying. I wonder who will be paying for Ephram's trip to Europe??
Right?!?!?! Julia from the Other Side/Heaven cannot give him money and he doesn't work, so it has to be Andy!

When Ephram feels hurt or betrayed he feels no shame. All he feels are his feelings and no one elses.
Indeed.

No, I have not always felt this way about Nina and Jake. I guess all of us have been watching these episodes more carefully this time around so that we can get more/new information and ideas that we perhaps missed the other times we watched. Like you....I like Nina and Jake much better this time. Jake is not annoying me as much this time around. In fact...Andy is annoying so much more than he ever did. Andy is another self centered male of the Brown family. When he was with Amanda it was all about him and his needs at the moment with no thought to Nina. Now that Amanda is out of the picture it's still all about Andy. It's as if he expects Nina to just wait around while Andy takes care of his business/needs until he comes back. Well Andy...this time Nina did not wait and I believe she and Jake have a good thing going. She's got a sweet guy who really cares about her...gives her his time and probably would not yell at her for having a foot massager under her bed!

Why have you EVER said you can’t write out detailed picture-perfect analysis?

You always get to the heart of it better then I do no matter how much you say!

That’s so bang on. Completely agree.

I’m still frustrated that Andy did not ask Ephram why he didn’t listen to him from day 1. Andy should have played that card. He should have asked Ephram to listen to him for two seconds, even way across the room then proceeded to ask him if he remembers how the Madison story happened from the start and who was against it. Who begged him not to go there. Who could have and should have put his foot permanently down and demanded that he never go there with Madison. Then Andy should have asked him if he remembers his reaction. His immature reaction practically throwing a little boy temper tantrum. If he threw a little boy temper tantrum then why on earth would he believe he shouldn’t have had a natural instinct to protect that immaturity while finding out the worst possible situation resulted in the illegal relationship when Madison got pregnant. In what way throughout everything did Ephram give Andy even a shred of an idea that just because Ephram got Madison pregnant meant he was suddenly mature enough to handle a baby? What did Ephram do throughout that made Andy believe he shouldn’t try to protect his kid after finding out he created another kid? Then while Andy was on a role he could explain Harold witnessed his relationship with Amy at the beginning of the year and highly suggested to Andy that what they had together was real and pure and to please not shatter it by dropping the bomb about Madison. He wanted to protect Amy and Ephram and Amy.

Thus, Andy (and Harold) were only looking out for Ephram and Amy throughout and how on earth can he pull the psychopathic-like demeanor right now as a result?

I would bet Ephram would have seen some light after that discussion.

That would have been a normal human response...almost a reflex would be to yell back, "I TOLD YOU NOT TO HAVE A RELATIONSHIP WITH MADISON. I WARNED YOU! NOW SEE WHAT HAPPENED?!?" Most of us would do that.
But...with the mood that Ephram was in and his entitled frame of mind this would have backfired even more! Ephram was so abscessed with his own outrage that he would not allow anyone to give him any blame. In Ephram's mind everyone was wrong. Everyone wronged him. Ephram didn't care what anyone's motivation was...he was not listening. He lost all reason and believed that he was a victim. It was all about Ephram.

That’s a good point. He wasn’t listening. Maybe Andy’s words would have helped later on. Kind of like how he realized he big time messed up letting Amy go. He would have seen the light possibly a little faster if Andy told it like it was. Ephram eventually sees it regardless but it sure would have been nice if this was spelled out to him at one point. He would have thought about it in Europe.

I am sure Ephram would have eventually taken responsibility for this situation and think about Andy and his warning. But...I don't remember Ephram ever stating that fact and apologizing to Andy. All he said was that he forgave Andy a long time ago. Well...what about Andy forgiving Ephram?? Ephram put him through hell!!

So true about Andy forgiving Ephram or Delia forgiving her brother for bailing on her once again concerning a situation with Madison. Nope, he never apologized for anything. Just like make no mistake, I dislike Madison but throughout their entire relationship he never once acknowledged how much trouble she could legally be in. He never cared about this at all. If police wanted to arrest her, Ephram could have begged the authorities not to go there, it was mutual, and it wouldn’t have mattered. He didn’t care about this aspect or that Andy tried to prevent everything. If I'm Ephram those are the two things I think about the most. If I’m Ephram finding out about the pregnancy I’m terrified of what my parents think. In fact, after finding out they already knew I would wipe sweat off of my face thanking my lucky stars they tried protecting me, instead of being angry or ashamed of me. I find it bizarre Ephram never feels stupid or embarrassed. He never worried about Amy’s reaction either. How is that possible? He was 100% self-absorbed like he was wronged by everyone.

That's the thing that makes us so angry at Ephram and causes us to have no sympathy for his situation! In a different scenario if Ephram showed remorse and showed understanding for everyone's motivation to try to protect him...one would feel sorry for Ephram and understand his feelings about not knowing about the baby and having no part in what happened to the baby. But...in this scenario Ephram was so self-absorbed that he became so detestable and it was difficult to feel for him.
