I watched this episode today! It was a great episode.

I really enjoyed the storyline for Harold and Edna. It was fun watching those two work together again, and I liked the ending scene with the alcohol. Its about time that those two work on their relationship and I feel like this show has constantly kind of ignored it.

I was so happy to finally get a Nina and Andy scene but I am very frustrated with the lack of development for these two. And its constantly like this. It feels like we just keep getting scenes of Nina telling Andy what a crappy friend he is... I wish they were written better, like they were in early season 1. Nina had a point about Amanda, howeer, the road goes both ways and she never told Andy about Jake either.

I did like seeing Any a bit jealous of Nina, and how obvious it was in that scene with Amanda. But I was very confused at how Jake/Nina and Andy/Amanda ended up moving forward after this episode????

Jake finds out that Nina's crush was AND IS Andy and yet, he doesnt seem to mind that much? They should have broken up right there. Same for Andy and Amanda. After his talk with Nina (where she was spitting facts) I thought and hoped he would have ended things with Amanda, like wtf? She even says in the scene that Andy was right and that being home reminded her that she was still married. So wtf are they doing??? And yet we still have zero conversation about her getting a divorce? Uh maybe thats the first step. Amanda did make points about not caring what the dumb town thinks, but in this case, andy had a right for feeling guilty.

Ephram and Amy were cute in this episode, enjoyed the first scenes and the ending one though I wouldnt have minded some more cute/shippy moments rather than slight fighting/awkwardness. I also enjoyed all the scenes with Bright in this episode. For once he was a good character that had intelligent things to say and good advice. I like that he stayed with teh group and also how nice he was being to Hannah, those scenes were sweet.

Hannah's crush is still pathetic to me though, like damn, how much can you throw yourself at someone with them being not interested?? (i say this even though i did the exact damn thing in highschool lmao) It was good of Hannah to open up to everyone about her dad though.

The snow was so prettyyyyyy. It made the episode feel so homey and very winter like. Im ready for summer but still, that was nice.

Top 5:
1. Bright (who knew)
2. Harold
3. Edna
4. Hannah
5. Nina

For once E/A dont make my top 5. I didnt dislike them by any means I just dont think they were stand outs compared to the other characters.

Completely agree. We were teased in S1 that we’d see plenty of Edna/Harold centric storylines and then it evaporated. We didn’t get anything in S2 and S3, they were mostly largely ignored until this episode. We’ve basically gotten crumbs throughout the first three seasons without any substantial moments until this episode. It was a good one. I absolutely loved how they used their professions and memories with Harold Senior to go there too. Every moment of Edna and Harold shined in this episode. Finally!

This is another pairing like Edna and Harold where there was major promise in S1 and then a big time slowing the brakes and hardly anything. Granted, Andy and Nina have gotten some development (and even foreshadowing) but like you said, there is a similar irritating pattern with these two as well. It’s frustrating. You also make an excellent point about Nina not telling Andy about Jake.

I hear you. Yes, the jealousy was crystal clear obvious.

Right? It was lunacy. I do not understand either. Jake, he understands everything now and is okay with it? Amanda, she's pretty into her own stuff obviously and doesn't know the Andy and Nina history but even she should be seeing that there is something going on between them based on Andy's reaction. At the very least, Jake should have told Nina she needed to figure out what she truly feels and go from there.

The annoying twist of them still remaining together after Nina told him pure facts and even Amanda felt the same way yet Andy persisting is so nonsensical.

The Bright/Ephram and Amy/Hannah scenes, as well as Hannah telling Ephram and Bright about her dad really highlighted their interaction. Yes, Hannah and her ongoing Bright crush has been pretty pathetic. I mean, it's natural to crush of course but she has been so obvious about it for a long while now and I am not really sure it matches her personality. When we first meet her she is basically scared of her own shadow, super shy. She was upset over Amy going into her journals. Then suddenly she sees Bright and is forward and obvious about a crush. It is weird.

The snow and mountains in the series really adds such a beautiful element.

Like your list! Bright is sage in this one.

Agreed about Ephram and Amy overall... I mean, you can tell they are basically in a holding pattern until Madisongate explodes and it's infuriating. The Madison band lie was so unnecessary. We should have gotten way better scenes between them before NYC.

Yeah its a little odd they didnt develop the Harold/Edna or have them interact more til now, they definitely dropped the ball on that relationship.

If I wrote the show I definitely would have had way more interactions with Andy/Nina and shown them to have at the very least a strong friendship. We know they did but a lot of their scenes were talked about but now shown.

Its baffling. And makes me not really feel bad for Jake that their relationship crumbled because hello, the signs were there. She rejected him the first time, was hesitant getting with him, then lies about liking someone else, yikes.

And the way that they wrote that ending A/A scene was like they were trying to show that they were so epic and stuff??? ehhh???? IDK, this show someitmes... I love it but gosh, its dense. How it wrote E/Madison and now A/A? Do they even understand people dont want this?

YEah, idk how to feel. A part of me is very disappointed rewatching E/A this season. I think i expected better moments between them but thus far their relationship kind of has just been them fighting?? At the same time, I do like that they are written realistically and there is this natural aspect to their scenes. i guess thats probably the actors making it work. I feel like they are written better than some couples after they get together but idk, I want more cute moments thrown in with the other stuff too.

Definitely. I think you can tell they understood this later on in the series because S5 was tentatively planned to be focused on:

1. Delia/Andy
2. Andy/Nina engagement
3. With Irv’s passing it was set up for tons of Edna/Harold interaction.

Not a coincidence the three pairings criminally underused would have been focused on.

Absolutely. Especially scenes like Nina telling Andy what he was doing with Amanda was so wrong and yet he didn’t respect the friendship enough to take her advice. He did the complete opposite of her advice. So even the friendship scenes we received weren’t fully satisfying. It is obvious Berlanti was waiting for Andy/Nina romantically until later on in the series. He had it mapped out from the start. I think their obsession with Scott Wolf delayed all the more and really got screwed up when it didn’t transition from the WB to the CW. So Andy/Nina were rushed and sacrificed the most.

100%.

Right! So true. That A/A scene made it appear as if they were star crossed soulmates. Mind blowing.

I remember Greg Berlanti in an interview being shocked the vast majority didn’t like Amanda or Madison. He was legitimately shocked. WTF.

Completely down with your thoughts. I feel the same. It’s conflicting. We definitely should have gotten more but like you said the organic realism is incredible.

Interesting. Its a bummer we didnt get a season 5 if this is the case. I would have liked to see those moments. But that makes me wonder what they would do with E/A then? If it was just them together and happy and maybe getting engaged or something then I would have loved it. Darn. lol. But at least the show didnt get a chance to get ruined or a main character didnt leave etc. Ill keep the 4 seasons tbh. But it makes you wonder if the writers were just waiting for later on to do more big moments/scenes. But they handled ephram/andy so well, so you would think edna/harold would have had the same treatment.

That is insane. Why would they??? It just confuses me so much that some writers think people like triangles. Uh, no.

Basically Greg Berlanti started talking a lot during this time period of not knowing if the merger was happening or not. In so many words, he basically said they had a long-term plan for Andy/Nina and you could tell that they really were going to make them the definition of a slow burn (even more than we witnessed). Should’ve added way more friendship scenes but I think they thought they had way more time. Things got all screwed up for Andy/Nina due to the merger not happening. There was also mentions that Edna/Harold and Andy/Delia would be highlighted after the merger. Comments about Ephram and Amy being soulmates and “making it” were noted with the assumption that if Madison (as speculated) would have returned to temporarily fight for adoption it might have slightly messed with the timing of Ephram and Amy’s reunion but overall the drama for Ephram and Amy was done. Probably moving in together, eventual engagement was in the cards. Series finale down the road might have been their wedding. Their last scene of the actual series finale was showcasing/foreshadowing all of that stuff. Since the show didn’t go over to the CW we didn’t actually get to see it.

However, it really does seem like the drama and tension would have been focused on Andy/Delia (instead of father/son it would have a father/daughter theme), Edna/Harold and continued fleshing out the Andy/Nina romantic storyline. Secondary storylines in play as well (Harold/Rose/family, Bright in general, Hannah).

I don’t get it either. What’s so ridiculous about triangles is while they happen in real life, television makes it seem like triangles happen all the damn time and that’s just not the reality.

If we had gotten a Season Five Madison's return would have at least temporarily delayed Ephram and Amy's reunion and it would have been awful for all of us to see, especially since Amy always felt vulnerable and insecure in regards to Ephram's feelings for Madison, and Madisongate caused their breakup. So if Amy had to stand out by that Ferris Wheel all alone and if she found out that Ephram didn't come out because he went back in to call Madison, it would have really hurt and angered Amy because she was putting her heart and soul on the line for Ephram, only to find out that once again, Madison was in the picture. I'm so glad that we didn't have to see that.

Precisely.

Those are my thoughts as well. We seriously were relieved from seeing more Madison BS. The good stuff would’ve been nice but it’s also possible the bad might have outweighed the good.

There was also talk that Berlanti was thinking of a flash forward showing everyone at Andy Brown’s funeral. He was thinking of going there if the series would’ve gone on longer. No thank you. I’d rather not see Andy and Nina married or even Ephram and Amy married if it meant we’d have to see Andy’s funeral.

Very good point Jerry.

The Ferris Wheel scene was so cute too. Cant wait to rewatch season 4.

I also would not want Andy's funeral.

Gosh show writers just end up destroying their own shows when given too much time lol.

I don’t know if Berlanti was trying to be cute and “brilliant” with Julia passing in the beginning and Andy in the end but NO thanks.

You are so right… too much time is a dangerous thing for writers and creators!

it kinda makes sense. If you want your show to keep going you start thinking "what other drama can i create?" even if it doesnt make sense and the story is over.

anohter reason i appreciate and love breaking bad. He said, theres 6 seasons from the beginning and thats it and thats all they didnt and he didnt allow the show to keep going.
