That was a huge trope in the 90s so in a way it makes sense that they did it to DJo but in retrospect, I wish we had seen them together longer in s2 and in s6. Them ripping the rug out from under them/the fans twice without any payoff was really disappointing.

s1 is great because it was all filmed prior to fans seeing it. I think it was more "soapy" after s1, as much as I like the show. It did lose a little bit of its magic once s1 was over. I actually didn't see most of s1 until later on--I saw the s1 finale before anything else.

There was a def. shift in the writing even Season 2 with KW. It really did get more like a prime time soap. Well by the time KW was gone that is what it all turned into for the most part.

Season 1 will always be the best written IMO.

I got it off of Pinterest this time, but I'm not sure where it originated. You used to be able to order pencils like that from Regal, so maybe that's what someone did.

I remember when she said the quote in the title, season 3.

Jaime Bee 11-21-2016 02:25 PM

I don't remember exactly when it was.:goof:

I do remember it.

That's a movie, right?

Jaime Bee 11-23-2016 08:50 PM

When did Joey say this in the title?

I think it's a movie.

JJH85 11-23-2016 10:20 PM

The Giver is a movie and it came out in 2014. It's based off of a book which I hear was really good, so when the movie was being released they anticipated that it would do quite well at the Box Office, but it did not do very well with a Domestic Box Office total of only $45 Million.

I saw and it was just okay which is a shame because it had quite a great cast with Jeff Bridges, Meryl Streep, Alexander Skarsgard and even Taylor Swift was in it and of course Katie.

Oh those pencils!! I want a few of them.

I agree that didn't give them a enough of a shot in S2. I think Season 2 would have bee much better if they had kept them together longer. I know in shows, they don't like to put couples together too early, but I think in this case, having two childhood friends all of a sudden fall in love is a great storyline. I think they should have left them together throughout the whole season and then if they wanted to break them up, they still could have in the same way at the end of S2.
That's kind of a hard one for me since their original breakup made a lot more sense than the one in the s2 finale. I like how they found their way back to each other in s2 and they were both in a better place by then. Their relationship in late s2 felt a lot more mature and permanent than it felt earlier in the season. I think they could've kept them together into mid s3 at the very least. But like Jamie said, the "will they, won't they" thing indicates an endgame payoff and that's why the writers continuously dragged them apart. Without that kind of payoff, it's just frustrating to see it happen in seasons where they could've been together a while to satisfy their fans. For me, DJo never naturally resolved their feelings for each other so I still think they'd get back together again someday. That's just their pattern.

I think the network had more influence in the ensuing seasons. I don't think KW expected to get a second season so he wrote the story he wanted to write from start to finish. The show was a mid-season replacement so they probably didn't expect it to explode the way it did.

I thought so. I remember Katie doing the talk shows promoting it. Too bad it didn't do better.

I thought she said the quote in the title in season 3.

rossfangirl86 11-25-2016 07:59 AM

I just googled it--she said it in "Bostonians" when she called him.

cyndie57 11-26-2016 01:15 AM

yes, she said it in Season 5-Episode 1 :)

[Frat Bathroom – There’s a line and Joey is inside on the phone. Someone knocks on the door.]

Joey: Just a sec! (into the phone.) Hey Dawson, it’s me, umm… I wanted to call you up. I’m at this party with Jack and Jen and my crazy roommate. Guess what? I’m having a pretty great time, but as great as it is, it’s not completely great and that’s because of you. You’re not here and I know that I said that it’s okay that you didn’t come this weekend but you know what? It’s not okay because I miss you. And there was this guy tonight and he was hitting on me or at least I think he was hitting on me. And he was perfectly nice and I blew him off and I’m not even sure why. But I’m pretty sure it was because of you. And… I’ve spent these past couple months acting like you were just going to show up outside my door one day, but you’re not. You are out there following your dreams which is what I want for you, Dawson. (someone knocks loudly.) In a minute! (into the phone.) Dawson, I think it’s time that I let you go. And it’s really hard for me to do because I know that there’s a part of me that will be in love with you for the rest of my life. But this whole running and place and day dreaming is just not healthy for either of us. So this is me cutting the cord, this is me doing what I should have done three months ago. Say goodbye, Dawson. Call me back. Bye. (she hangs up.)
