Dawson's Creek 5x04 "The Long Goodbye"
The group reconnects back in Capeside in order to support Dawson at the funeral of his father. They make separate attempts to let him know they are there for him, perhaps most notably Pacey, who makes an emotional attempt at convincing Dawson that he was not to blame for his father's death. Dawson and Gail are devastated that Lily will never remember her father. airdate: October 31, 2001 |

From the beginning the episode already felt like the old DC and like it had much more depth. I much prefer the serious side of the show to the funny cheesey side that it’s been going to lately.
I really liked the Pacey and Joey scene, it was really sweet. I love their friendship and interaction. I was glad that Joey gave Pacey a hard time about saying he might not go to the funeral. Dude, wtf. Go to the damn thing! So glad he actually did even though he and Dawson haven't been talking much this year. I loved all the little DJ moments and Joey grabbing Dawson’s arm at the funeral. It sucks that he rejected her, but I mean, he’s going through something really rough and people need to let him grieve in the way he needs to. I did feel a bit bad for Joey by the end of it though, that he wasn't opening up to her. The Jen/Dawson hug was so sad but also sweet. I just knew that Dawson was eventually going to break. It was heartbreaking watching his overreaction to the voicemail. I did like the Mitch “flashbacks” in a way because it was nice to get some closure on him but at the same time they felt pretty cheesey. I think I would have preferred it if they had been actual flashbacks instead of the present time characters in those scenes. Pacey also shouldn't have gotten the last flashback, I found that odd. I absolutely LOVED the Pacey and Dawson scene. I love that Pacey helped Dawson realize that Dawson wasn’t to blame for his fathers death. To be fair though, Mitch had been leaning down to get his ice cream so he wasn’t completely faultless either. By far the best episode of the season imo. |

Thanks for starting the thread.
I agree with you. It was a very emotional episode. Dawson was very relatable for me here, and everybody gave great performances. __________________
