It's just unfortunate that those shows never lasted very long.

An oblivious realist, it's almost an oxymoron.

Dawson was more like an idealist which isn't a bad thing.

He was definitely an idealist, he used to call himself a dreamer
I know it's an unpopular opinion but I actually love that side of him __________________

Dawson was real for me. Yes at the end of season 3 he did the cry, but as someone had mentioned he was a teenager. Teenagers go through a lot of stuff.

Cyndie, I also like that side of him. I'm a pretty optimistic/idealistic person so it was nice to see a character on TV like that. I actually don't like that everyone in his life criticized him so much for it. You can be realistic without being pessimistic and I think Dawson achieved that by the end of the series. Of course, he can get so caught up in his ideals sometimes that he loses sight of people but he was always willing to see that and apologize for his faults. He had some bad moments but he's just as flawed as any of the other characters.

ITA I'm not really an optimistic person but I find that side of him pretty endearing actually

There is nothing wrong with being a dreamer and I sometimes think that Dawson got a bad wrap for that, but it's not a character flaw.
And I agree with the comment that he was no more flawed than any of the other characters, it just so happens they each had different flaws. __________________

Loved Dawson's character always and BIG reason I watched the show. Always putting everyone else before him! Strong character Always a dreamer just like me still to this day.
He was the best character in the show by far!!!! Dawson wears his heart on his sleeve! __________________

I think everybody needs an idealist side, or life would suck. __________________

^ That's very true. And I think we all tend to escape reality, in one way or another.
Dawson definitely wore his heart on his sleeve which got him into trouble sometimes. He's a highly emotional and sensitive character, not many like him on TV. Most artistic/creative people are like that so they wrote him well in that aspect. I also liked his passion for movies, it's something that set him apart from everyone else. Watched "Alternative Lifestyles" last night. It was funny hearing him "spar" with Mitch--he was so happy in the beginning of that episode. It's too bad we didn't get that side of Dawson a lot. __________________
