Plus, Dawson had watched Pacey come out of a very serious relationship with Andie, which ended very badly. He probably expected that PA would eventually get back together.

Did they owe Dawson and Andie anything? You're right, they didn't. It's their lives. However, Joey's interactions with Dawson were very limited during Season 3 and so I'm not surprised that Pacey/Joey caught Dawson off-guard. I also think it's very easy to forget just how serious Dawson and Joey's relationship was in Season 2, to the point that when they got back together later in the season, they talked about when they might have sex (during their romantic boat ride).

Plus, and I can't stress this point enough -- there was something very superficial about the reactions to the love triangle in Season 3. Case in point, the way that people made fun of Dawson's crying scene in the episode 'True Love'. I didn't like that at all.

That's true. Then again, Pacey was always the strongest Dawson/Joey supporter in the early seasons, so I did wonder if he was pushing the boundaries by thinking it was a good idea to ask Joey out back then. I say that for Pacey's sake, because it's muddling yourself in an already messy situation.

You bring up some very good points.

I didn't really like the reaction to Dawson's/James' crying scene either. It was supposed to be heartfelt and it just became a joke. I understand how he must have felt, especially since he was still into Joey when she turned him away at the end of S2. He was just being cautious in S3 by keeping his distance, but if you want someone you need to go after them and that ultimately was his downfall.

I may be a PJo shipper, but I also appreciate the relationship that DJo had, they were a big part of each other's lives and that just doesn't go away overnight.

You are right, Pacey was a strong supporter of DJo, even in S5 when he said they never really had a shot. Good on him for recognizing that even though he still loved Joey.

yes the dawson cry. But what about how pacey acts in season 4? He's supposed to be an adult here. :look:

I disagree because they are all still in high school, they are not adults in high school.

I just started re-watching S1, I'm on episode 2 right now, other than when they are arguing about Jen, DJo are pretty cute.

I didn't like how dawson acted, ngl I did like pj in season 3.

^^^ I'm glad you agree that the majority of reactions were nasty to Dawson crying in the True Love episode :high_five:

Why is it considered okay to mock the main character who loves somebody in his most vulnerable moment? He was heartbroken when she left to be with Pacey, and it showed. :broken_heart:

Season 1 was so good for the whole gang :) I liked Pacey's naughty romance with Tamara  which actually became very meaningful and ended on a bittersweet note.

I wasn't a Dawson/Jen shipper, but I did like how their relationship contrasted with Dawson/Joey and how Joey exploded with jealousy.

Season 1 was the only season I was truly happy with. It didn't feel melodramatic or depressing.

I think the negative reaction to the Dawson crying face was more of a jab at James than at Dawson TBH. It was not the best acted moment for him, so I get it., but sometimes you just have to look beyond those weak moments. Even Josh had one or two weak moments in the show and I think he's an incredible actor.

I wasn't a Dawson/Jen shipper either, but I loved them together in S5.

james wasn't happy about it. I was glad he let joey go though. I do like joey and have to keep defending her. and I love JVDB as an actor.

I'm half way through S1, Dawson was so blind when it came to Joey. Even Pacey was more aware of Joey than Dawson was and he wasn't even interested in her at that time.

joey was always a character I liked, even though she didn't always make good choices.

^^ Dawson in Season 1 was written like a teenage guy whose head was so full of idealism that he couldn't see what was right in front of him.

I personally thought it was stupid in the episode 'Detention' that they had Joey pour her heart out to him and he still didn't get who she was talking about  That was bad writing, in my opinion. As a movie lover, Dawson should be one of the first people to understand subtext / hidden meanings.

Yeah I know it was a jab at James  and that's part of what turned me off this fandom for a while. Judging somebody's crying is just pathetic. Everybody has different ways of expressing emotion  Some criers are more dramatic than others.
