Seeing the Andie scenes in the series finale extended cut, I think they could have had a Pacey and Andie end if they really wanted to. Instead of the PJ off the hook speech, they could have had a quick scene having Pacey asking Andie out to dinner, but that would not have been satisfying and Andie would be indeed a consolation prize.

Exactly my thoughts, they could have done the D/Jo ending and the P/A ending if they really wanted to, but it wouldn't have been satisfying. After all the P/Jo hype we saw in season 6, I would have been very mad.

The first half of the final is groomed for a DJo and PA ending. I am not a big fan of the first half of the series finale. I think you can definitely spot the change in the second half of the finale, when the writers recognized something was amiss and began to write towards a Pacey/Joey ending.

Really?I think the whole series finale favored PJ. That's why I don't understand how the ending was changed at the last minute. Pacey and Joey had the slow motion reuion and the dance/kiss in the first half. Some of their best scenes, imo. All DJ had was the same old bedroom scene and Dawson's wedding dream.

I heard that too in the commentary, that the first half they were still going for the D/Jo and P/A ending, but they switched it in the second half. I don't think they would have been able to pull it off as well if they stuck with that ending, with all the chemistry between Joey and Pacey.

Pacey and Joey always had the superior chemistry, even I the first half it was clear that Dawson and Joey lacked some. It was not the chemistry between Dawson and Joey that made me believe there was any potential sparks, it was the constant cheesy scenes they got in that episode.

Anyways it is a good thing they changed it because Andie would have been a terrible consolation prize for Pacey. She was gone for so many seasons, after leaving dishonourably, and if their intention was to bring her back as a resident so she would look all put together and desirable for Pacey it would have failed. She was not the girl for Pacey, even though she did impact his story. I think the impact she had was that she made fans realize Pacey could be a romantic lead, but not with her.

I was glad that they changed the Andie ending too. Even if she was Pacey's first love, that doesn't mean she was his true love. They both had grown up so much from when they were 15 years old.

I just found this thread! I wouldn't say I am anti-PA, but I think the entire relationship was rushed. She had barely been introduced to Pacey before she fell for him. Then a few episodes later she was starting to exhibit mental health problems, and several after that Pacey and Andie had sex. Their entire arc is compressed into 10 episodes.

I thought it was just way too much for Pacey. He had major hero complex in this relationship, and it makes me wonder if he would have really fallen for her if she didn't need him so much, which he needed at the time. It was just really imbalanced and I could not imagine her as Pacey's endgame relationship. I was ready for him to move on by the end of season 2.

The only thing is because the audience felt bad for Andie, I have to wonder if they needed to damage her character a bit so that Pacey did not come across like an ass for wanting to exit a relationship with someone who was not doing well, mentally speaking. I wonder how he would come across to the audience to admit that the pairing was too heavy for him, given that he was only 16.

I was neutral on Pacey/Andie. I only disliked her when her behavior got ridiculous in S3. IE cheating on Pacey, lying about that guy trying to rape her, stealing the SAT test, and around that time when she was putting Pacey down in their little catty talks. Oh, then of course when she pounced on Pacey's friend Will then wanted to be a bitter and hypocritical baby when Pacey and Joey fell for each other. Outside of that, I liked Andie.

I think some of the behaviour was out of character but some of it wasn't. I do not think her stealing the PSAT is out of character given that she is high strung and a perfectionist.

I question whether she would truly cheat on Pacey, and whether or not she would accuse someone of rape when it didn't happen. I thought that was beneath the writing.

However, I wonder the audience may have reacted poorly to Pacey feeling attracted to Joey, even though I think he always was, after Andie came back from receiving help for a break down.

I really don't want to post in any anti threads right now. I will just say I think the writing for Andie went too far having her accuse someone of attempted rape and then have no following up. She should have at least apologized. The writing sucked for Andie in S3 in some ways worse than Dawson, imo.

Yeah, I do agree some of what she did in S3 was OOC. I think they should of had someone else steal the SAT test. Maybe they did it for shock value cause back then I was SHOCKED Andie was the one that took it. I think it would of made more sense for Jen to take it but I think that was Jen's best season and that would of tainted her. Then again, the whole stealing the test plot was dumb anyway. Especially Dawson being all self righteous about it when he brought the stolen test to them in the first place.

I’m watching season two again and I just don’t feel the chemistry. I also think they got together to fast. I know people think Andie wouldn’t cheat on him and that it was occ but I can see her doing that. She was lonely and going through things and didn’t have her friends or brother there to talk to. The people there were going through the same things she was going through.

I see people saying Pacey pressure Joey into have sex but he didn’t. On the other hand I felt like he did with Andie by standing in front of the condoms when they were in the store or when he took her to the bed and breakfast. She looked uncomfortable there and then they end up having sex in the car. Who wants there first time to be in a car.

For a guy who thinks they moved to fast and had to write a note to her saying that maybe they shouldn’t have. I also hate that he confessed his love after they had sex then before. Unless I’m wrong and he did. Lol

Also when Andie was trying to use sex to get him to dress up as a cop for the festival. He should want to do that because he loves her not because she promised to do whatever he wants during sex. So what he said in season three to Joey is true with whole sex and studying thing.

I hated that she got mad at him for not telling her about the teacher relationship but she lied to him about her mental health. If he really wanted to be with her in the beginning he wouldn’t have dance with that girl or kissed the teacher again. I felt like he was pressured to date Andie in the beginning because she was hanging all over him. Yes later on he did fall in love with her but he really didn’t want to be with her at the beginning of season two.
