Terra Nova Theories #1: What exactly IS the badlands?
So I've asked a bit and found out that while it has been touched on, there doesn't seem to be a thread to keep track on the theories/ ideas we as fans have on the Bad Lands. So I create this thread in the name of Terra Nova, to discus what we know, what we believe, and what we think might just be out there.

TFTNT Great to have a place to talk about them!
Perhaps we should make this a general theory thread? That way when we learn about what is going on with the badlands this thread doesn't die __________________

I like that idea Jess Kind of like the usual spoilers & speculation threads has, but minus the spoilers. I think keeping it titled "Theories" would be better.

So what if the Badlands are the end result of the Bermuda Triangle? BAM! I'm crazy, I know.
Far fetched and I don't know where the thought came from. But the ship figurehead was weird. And it looked old. And Terra Nova isn't in the same time stream path as 2149, like Maddy said in the pilot. So what if it Terra Nova isn't in a different time stream at all, but the place where all lost things go? I mean, at one point, a part of Pangea (I guess the place that the TN writers were going for?) was probably in the same place as the Triangle is now, so what if the continent of Terra Nova is the part of the land that was caught in the Triangle? Just a thought lol. |

Hmm sure do sound interesting! It could be that the badlands is connected in some way with the Bermuda Triangle, would explain the part of the ship from that era.
I sure have not thought so much on that, but now when you say it it could defently work. __________________

Topping this thread, just so we have something to discuss since we don't have any upcoming episode discussions right now.
TheFirstArchitect that's actually genius, lol. When I think about it, it could totally work. Definitely agreed with Marielle on it explaining the ship prow they found. |

Wow. The Bermuda Triangle? Usually, it's the answer to everything. But... I don't really think the writers are going there.
For one thing, Malcolm mentioned the era from which it looked like the ship mast came (I don't remember what he said ... was it the 16th century?) and it's not really the ship you'd expect to be sailing in the Bermuda triangle. Or am I just dumb??? I think there is an ancient civilization that lives there...Maybe the same portal that was opened in 2149 was accidentally opened a long time ago too, and people went to Terra Nova back then. Time travelers from the past going further back into the past to be discovered by people from the future! That'd be COOL! __________________

That would sure be cool! And in the same time it is a big planet so their could be people living on another continent. It is not like they have seen the entire planet

Now that I think about it, the earliest unusual disappearance in the Triangle was around the 1950s or 60s, can't remember. So how they would get a 16th or 17th (or whatever Malcolm said ) century boat through there, I'm not sure. Unless the writers came up with some bizarre but awesome thing where there were time fractures as early as those times.

I love the Bermuda Triangle idea because I'd love to see what other ships and lost people may be in the badlands. It would make the time travel thing even more complex I think. The lost civilization idea is fun too. Though if there were people there it is odd that Taylor did not come across them in his time before Terra Nova was established. It would be interesting to have a new group of people though for some new characters

They just opened up so many possibilities with introducing the badlands. I love it, whatever it is. I'm trying to figure out why Taylor didn't encounter the badlands as well. Could the portal maybe be something completely different than the one they all came through from 2149?

Possibly
It would be kind of cool also if it was from like a third time. If Terra Nova is in a separate timeline than the one that they came from, who is to say there aren't more of them? __________________
