Gossip Girl S&S #18: Cause we just can't stop talking about Gossip Girls

PREVIOUS THREAD

1.09: "BLAIR WALDORF MUST PIE!" Airing: November 26, 2007

THE HUMPHREYS AND VAN DER WOODSENS SHARE THANKSGIVING — When Dan (Penn Badgley) hears that Serena (Blake Lively) and her family are spending Thanksgiving alone at The Palace, he naively invites them to spend the holiday with his family, creating an uncomfortable situation for Rufus (Matthew Settle) and Lily (Kelly Rutherford) whose children are unaware of their complicated romantic history. Meanwhile, Blair’s (Leighton Meester) emotions spiral out of control when she learns that her father isn’t coming home for Thanksgiving. Nate (Chace Crawford) spends the holiday with his mom (guest star Francie Swift) and dad (guest star Sam Robards), but their awkward dinner quickly goes from bad to worse. Taylor Momsen also stars. The episode was directed by Mark Piznarski and written by K.J. Steinberg & Jessica Queller

1.10: "Hi Society " Airing:

General Spoilers
Although (thank you sweet Jesus Imitation of Christ) new episodes will air tomorrow night and next week, the L.A. Times is reporting that the CW only has 13 of the 22 planned episodes for 2007–2008 in the can, which means that, depending on how long the strike lasts, we could run out of new episodes by February. And do you know what that means? It means that we won't get to see the Very Special Valentine's Day episode in which Serena's brother and Jenny finally, adorably hook up and Blair wears lingerie again and Dan constructs an elaborate holiday surprise for Serena which adorably fails. {courtesy of Kaleiokalani}

Casting for episode 1x09
From the Ausiello Report:
Gossip Girls gets a full season pick up.
Nate yells at Chuck for sleeping with Blair. Chuck says that Blair needed someone and that he was there for her, she's different from all the other girls. Nate tells him to stay away from her. Click here to read more. Thanks to DreamOn777

Thanks for the new thread!

And can we please stop commenting on who others should like? Some people like Blair, some like Serena, some like both! It's all fine.

Omg, thanks Lucy!

But the only thing that bothers me is when people are constantly on his case about Blair and Serena when everyone conveniently forgets what Chuck did in the pilot, which was so much worse, IMO.
Trust me, no one ever forgets that Chuck is a "raping rapist who rapes". People are falling for Chuck/Blair and when they say so they always add "I still hate what he did in the pilot, but..." It's like everyone has to justify being a fan of Chuck's or any relationship he is in and I just think that is lame. As if if you're a fan of CB or C over N then you support rape (not saying you're saying this but it's the way I read it online). Also, I feel guilty when I say that I do not believe that Chuck had forced himself on two girls in the pilot, that I can never see it as "attempted rape" because I don't think that was ever his intention to begin with! And what kind of show will introduce a character that will go around raping girls and might continue to do so in future episodes and expect us to care about the character or watch the show at all unless he was presented as a monster or a criminal or a villain from the get-go?

Anyway, for me the Nate debate as always come down to this: sell your character. If the roles were reversed and Ed was playing Nate and vice-versa I might be a Nate fan, because I need a strong portrayal to sympathize with the character or to enjoy them.

Sorry for the long post, but as someone who has never read the books and is not a fan of Chace or Ed particularly that's how I see it.

Like I said, Cecily mocked and contradicted her characters and their relationships way too much for it to be taken with anything more than a grain of salt.

I completly agree with who said this...the prequel was completly thrown together and from what i read in all the other books nate and blair were true loves...well the very last few were pretty bad but i think they were just running out of ideas..newayI love chuck and blair...heck i loved chuck in the pilot. Im not saying i ageee with what he was doing but there are alot of guys in high school that will try to force themselves on girls esp if they think no one will know (jenny) or that the girl is a **** (serena). which obv serena isnt a **** but im just saying the idea of chuck doing what he did isnt that ridic and he didnt rape anyone so as far as im concerned hes not a rapist....

I said that! LOL.

I mean, I enjoyed the books at first, but when I'm going to read something more than 100pages, I don't want to read trash. That's why they were a guilty pleasure. There's only so much I can take. The Gossip Girl books were fun, but after awhile, they're empty, shallow, and then it just feels like you're watching a scripted reality show. People/characters are being conducted to do things that compromise why we love and sympathize them in the first place just for the sake of drama.

The books got so bad after awhile, and no, Cecilly was not always writing. It was mostly ghostwriters.

That's why I like the show so much better. They take the heart of the characters and manage to make their stories witty, fun, and dramatic w/out being too heavy.

sorry for the dub post but i asked this question earlier...so with this blurb we have about 110 hi society
MAY I HAVE THIS DANCE? — Serena (Blake Lively) has absolutely no intention of attending the upcoming Debutante Ball, until her grandmother, CeCe (guest star Caroline Lagerfelt), announces that she won’t take no for an answer. Unfortunately, Dan (Penn Badgley) isn’t exactly what CeCe had in mind in terms of a suitable escort for Serena, and she makes her opinion heard loud and clear, causing a riff between Serena and Dan. Although they are officially broken up, Blair (Leighton Meester) and Nate (Chace Crawford) decide to go to the ball together as friends, but a jealous Nate begins to suspect that Blair may already be seeing someone else. Jenny (Taylor Momsen) finds herself torn between attending her mother’s (guest star Susan Misner) art opening or following her dreams to the Debutante Ball, even though it’s against her parents’ wishes. Finally, Rufus (Matthew Settle) learns the real reason Lily (Kelly Rutherford) broke up with him all those years ago. Ed Westwick also stars. The episode was directed by Patrick Norris and written by Joshua Safron (#109).

for those of you have read the sides....is anyone thinking that chuck is going to try and convince nate that blair is hooking up with carter in order to tear them apart???? I really hope thats what it is i cant wait for this epp its gonna be STELLAR!

There's nothing wrong with seeing it that way at all. In fact, that's kind of how I see it. But no matter how you spin it, he put his hands on two different girls when they did not want him to. I mean, that's just what it is. I, personally, am so over the whole "Chuck is a raping rapist who rapes" thing. If people think that's anti-feminism, whatever, but that's just how I feel.

What I was trying to say was that it's frustrating that people will hate on Nate no matter what it is. He's damned if he does, damned if he doesn't, you know? He's an ass because he doesn't love Blair, and then people are on his case because he discovers he does care for her and gets mad when Chuck sleeps with her.

Anyway, I'm kind of sick of talking about this.
