Episode 4.16- You Call It Madness, But I Call It Love

LUCAS FINDS OUT WHO KILLED KEITH — It will be an unforgettable Prom at Tree Hill High when Lucas (Chad Michael Murray) discovers who was in the hallway when Keith (Craig Sheffer, who does not appear in the episode) was killed. Meanwhile, Peyton’s (Hilarie Burton) decision to skip Prom leads to dire consequences. Nathan (James Lafferty) and Haley (Bethany Joy Galoetti) vow to be romantic teenagers at Prom, while Dan (Paul Johansson) tries to win Karen’s (Moira Kelly) affections, as the witness to his murder closes in. Barbara Alyn Woods, Danneel Harris and Lee Norris also star.

Episode 4.17- It Gets The Worst At Night

EPISODE SHOT ON LOCATION IN HONEY GROVE, TEXAS AS PART OF NATIONAL CONTEST — The teens of Tree Hill mount a rescue mission to retrieve Mouth (Lee Norris) from his ill-advised road trip with Rachel (Danneel Harris). While on the trip, Haley (Bethany Galeotti) and Nathan (James Lafferty) get a second chance to enjoy the prom, and Lucas (Chad Michael Murray) and Peyton (Hilarie Burton) decide to take their relationship to the next level. Brooke (Sophia Bush) tells Haley that she lied about stealing the calculus exam, and Nathan struggles with the residue of a past mistake. Barbara Alyn Woods, Paul Johansson and Moira Kelly also star.

The reason that they would make Nathan bitter in 5 years if he loses the scholarship is because he did what he did for Haley and the baby. He is going to harbor some resentment towards them because of that. He could have dealt without basketball at the time he said that but now I don't think he could.

As for Stanford, they much like Duke, have made exceptions for players grades and test scores in the past.

I just don't really think Mark would have Nathan/James lose his scholarship and kill off the remaining sole link to basketball. You just know that in 4.21, Nathan is going to somehow retain his scholarship. After all this show is magic.

I think it's a bit of a stretch to say Nathan's going to be bitter five years from now. Nathan's not my favorite person, but I don't see him reacting that way. We all have regrets or a few 'what ifs' in our lives. It doesn't mean we wind up bitter. And I would never see this Nathan ever being resentful towards Haley or the baby. I'm never Nathan's biggest defender, but that seems like a bit of a jump to make logically.

ETA: And I remember reading back a few pages about how basketball is Nathan's dream, his life, and if that was taken away from him, he wouldn't have anything else. That's a pretty sad conclusion to make or to assume. It's a pathetic reflection of Nathan's character if that is true. It doesn't mean his life is going to be falling apart if he doesn't get his scholarship. It's not the end of the world, and if it is indeed the end of his own world, then he has some growing up he needs to do.

Ha, I just started thinking about it, and I had a change of heart, and believe that Nathan would not be some bitter, broken man. I agree with everything you said. Sure he would be disappointed, but I really do think he would find some way to bounce back. And I guess I could see him blaming himself for his mistakes, but I don't think he would hold Haley and Baby Scott accoutable for them also.

That's exactly how I feel. If he were to carry some resentment, he wouldn't project it onto his wife or his son. Nathan has a roundabout way of showing his selflessness, and in this case, I could see him being hard on himself throughout the years if he didn't wind up playing college basketball. I'm sure it wouldn't go unnoticed by Haley either, and she may have some insecurities or fears that she held him back, but in the end, I could never picture Nathan being resentful towards Haley or his son. There's a difference between pondering 'what ifs' and being bitter for the rest of your life.

We will probably skip 5 years or so, we won't get to see any Duke BBall related events anyway, unless we get flashbacks, right?

I also think it will be a great dissappiontment if they wrote Nathan like that. He already did what he did for Haley and the Baby, blaming them would be even worse than what Dan did with Deb & Nathan. It'll be character assisination and no one will sympathize.

Well just because he would loose his scholarship doesnt mean he wouldnt be playing basketball. There are plenty of other good basketball schools around the country (esp. this year) that he could play at. Maybe this is the event that causes Haley and Nathan to stay close to home and go to UNC..or maybe they go to Stanford. With the series jumping 5 years they could go anywhere.

I hope we do get to see either basketball flashbacks of him playing at Duke or he is going to enter the NBA draft or even what came to me a little bit ago due to the new NBA eligibility rule Nathan could play at Duke for a year and then decide to enter the draft so in 5 years we see that he is already playing for a Pro team. I do hope that we get basketball next season. I love seeing the basketball games and that was one of the big storylines for the entire show
