Act I (from rbeezer):

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The info that I have so far starts off with Abby and Morris working on a patient together: Abby says, mr. welling you need to calm down, then I can help you. The patient says I told you, the VA burned all my files. My back's killing me. I can't barely walk. Then he stands up. Morris says You're standing. Look, it's a miracle. Morris is enjoying this crank. Furious, the patient pulls on his fatigue jacket. Abby says Morris. This guy needs psych. Morris says They've seen him 5 times in the last 3 months. He's not getting admitted. Abby says Mr. Welling, are you having any suicidal thoughts? The patient says Hell no. I'm not going to kill myself. I'm going to kill him. He points accusingly at Morris, then heads across the main ER. Abby says He's BP's elevated, we could call medicine. They might have a bed. Morris says Just let him go. Why do you care? Abby wastes a fu*k-you look on Morris, then follows as the patient heads into triage.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The patient’s making threats at Morris, and Abby tries to calm him down, but gives up. Luka comes in. She greets him, and then leaves (with the patient still screaming in the background). Sam enters the scene (coat still on) and makes a comment about the crazy patient. They start walking (although not quite together) and Sam asks if he’s back on day shift. He says he’s on ‘til 6 and asks about her schedule (she’s on ‘til 7). They’ve just run out of small talk when a nurse gives Sam some charts. Sam asks if she can take her coat off first.
Neela presents her patient to Chen. The patient seems shy and embarrassed; she had a fight with her girlfriend and has a split lip. She denies that her girlfriend wanted to hit her. Frank makes a dumb lesbian comment. Chen tells Neela to find her patient a place and Chen will help Neela close the wound. Chuny guides the patient to a bed.
From EpneBelle:

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Luka and Sam treat a 13 year old with chlamydia.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
A distracted Luka asks Sam a question about a patient, but Sam says she already told him the answer. He nods, but it isn’t true. They go over to the patient, who’s only 13. He’s in pain, and Sam asks if she can call someone for him. He says his father’s on a plane (he lives with his father). She asks if she can call anyone else, and he politely says, “No Ma’am, thank you.” Sam’s “charmed” by the kid. Luka says he has to take a look, but the patient’s embarrassed to drop his pants in front of Sam. Luka sees this, and asks Sam to get something for him. When she leaves, the patient tells Luka that Sam’s hot. The scene ends off Luka’s look (doesn’t say what kind of look he has on his face).
Carter’s in the ambulance bay, waiting for a rig to roll up. Neela/Chen’s patient (the one with the split lip) is walking out of the ER (through the ambulance bay). Chen’s chasing after her. The patient wants to know why she called the cops on her girlfriend. Chen explains that they’re required to do that in abuse cases. The patient says she should’ve never gone to the ER. Chen stops right next to Carter and watches her patient leave. Carter offers to chase after her, but Chen says (sarcastically) that she’s sure they’ll live happily ever after. Carter asks about Chen’s work schedule, and she says she’s only working a few shifts. She finally found a homecare nurse that her father hasn’t thrown out of the house. We find out the homecare nurse is a guy, and her father is really in a foul (probably depressed) mood: he hates the nurse and the diapers; he hates when she’s there and hates it when she leaves. Carter asks if she finds it hard to leave her father, and she says she feels like a condemned prisoner who’s been given “a 12-hour reprieve”. Carter’s sympathetic. The rig arrives: there’s 42 yo man in a vegetative state with fever and hypotension; his 19 yo daughter is with him. The patient has blood all over his arm from pulling out his PICC line. Cut to inside the ER and Sam enters the room. Chen tries to ask the man a question, but his daughter says he can’t speak. Carter asks about the man’s condition, and his daughter says that 2 years ago, he crashed his forklift and some steel fell over and crushed him; he has brain damage. Sam calls Chen’s attention to a really nasty skin infection the man has around his G-tube. Chen asks the daughter if she cleans around the area, and she says she does it 2x a day. They don’t believe her. She explains that he was in an extended-care facility, but she wanted him home with her, and the people at the facility showed her how to take care of him. An alarm sounds, and Carter tells Sam to give the man some saline. She doesn’t have a line in yet, and when she tries, the man groans. They can’t put in a line anywhere else, so they decide to put one in central (a central line?). Carter and Chen explain the situation (her father has low BP from the blood loss; he also has an infection, so they’ll try to put in fluid and antibiotics). They tell her that his heart might stop even if they do this and want to know if she talked to her father about his wishes. They need to page Corday, and Carter asks if the man has a DNR. He doesn’t, and she says that they need to help him.
Cut to Luka and the 13 yo. Luka’s doing an ultrasound on the boy’s testicle. The boy wants to know if he could see through someone’s clothes with the ultrasound. Luka jokes that he tried, but it doesn’t work. Sam’s there and asks him how he’s feeling. He says he’s “much better, thank you”. Luka and Sam step out into the hallway, and Sam says she’s going to call Urology. Luka says that the kid’s ultrasound is normal, so it isn’t a surgical problem.
Act II: Sam and Elizabeth doing a cutdown on the 42 yo man. His daughter’s in the room. Sam tells Elizabeth about a tank that’s moving pretty fast. Elizabeth says that a tank can go as fast as 35 mph on the open road (she heard it on CNN). While they’re talking, Corday cuts, exposing the man’s vein; he groans. His daughter wants to know if they’re hurting him. Sam tells her to wait outside and she’ll update her when they’re done, but the daughter wants to stay. Elizabeth finishes, and the daughter wants to know if her father will be OK now. Sam says he’s still very sick, but the daughter says he’s strong. Dr. Lawson enters and says he’s there to repair the man’s PICC line (he put the previous one in 3 months ago). Elizabeth (curtly?) thanks him for coming, but they’ve given him a femoral cutdown instead. Elizabeth leaves with Lawson following. From rbeezer:
Quote:
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Lawson says to Elizabeth I don't appreciate you poaching my cases. When your cutdown gets infected, call me. Elizabeth says I assure you I washed my hands. Lawson says We still on for dinner? You find a sitter?
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Frank enthrals someone with his knowledge of the weaponry/capability of the tank that’s on the loose. A detective, Weaver and Morris enter the scene, and Weaver tells everyone to get back to work. Weaver wants to know where the tank is at this point. Carter tells her it’s about 6 miles away. Weaver wants to know how long it’ll be until they get the crazy tank driver (who turns out to be Mr. Welling). Carter says he’s crossing Michigan, but the detective says he won’t get that far – there are road blocks to divert him and they’re going to get the tank to run out of gas. Morris questions the detective’s tactics, and then Abby enters the scene. She tells Morris that there’s also a helicopter with a big magnet on it to get the tank. Morris genuinely asks her if it’s true. She gives him that, “no, you idiot” look. The detective asks about Mr. Welling (the detective calls her Dr. Lockhart). She says he had some back pain and had “borderline personality with somatoform disorder”. He doesn’t get it, so Abby tells him that there was no physical explanation for his pain; he was angry because they couldn’t help him. Morris repeats that there was nothing wrong with him, and turns to Carter and tells him that Carter keeps telling him to dispo patients faster. Carter tells Morris that they’re not accusing him of doing anything wrong. Pratt’s there and notices on the TV that the tank is getting to the road block. The road block consists of police cars only, and the tank just rolls right over it and keeps going on its merry way. Weaver asks the detective if they’ve got another plan. Morris is scared because it seems the tank driver’s “coming for us”. Abby corrects him: “Not us, pal. You”. (Personal note: BWAH!) Morris exits, and Chuny tells Carter that there’s a double MVA coming. Abby goes with Carter. He asks her about her day, and she says it was great until her patient stole a tank. He says it’s not her fault, but she says it kinda is. Carters says Morris was there with her, and he’s an R2; she’s a med student. Abby says that Morris is never really there. She says the patient was “just a sad, angry guy” who’ll eventually run out of gas and wind up in the psych ward (hopefully).
Cut to the 13 yo and Sam. He’s telling her about some models he made, and Sam tells him about Alex (who she says is close to his age, making him 11 or 12): he makes models as well, but them blows them up with firecrackers. Luka enters and tell him that he has chlamydia. He doesn’t know what that is. Sam says it’s an STD and if he understands what that means. He says that’s something you get from having sex. Luka asks if he’s having sex, and he says he “hooks up” with some girls in school. Sam asks if he’s had sex with more than one girl and notes that he’s only 13. He wants to know how he can get rid of it and whether they have to cut anything off. Luka tells him that one dose of antibiotics will clear it up. Brian says, “Cool” and Sam says, “Cool?” Luka then says that the boy has to tell these girls so they can get treated, and he wants to give him some pamphlets on STDs to give to them. He says OK, and Luka and Sam leave the room. While walking away, Sam says (in a you-were-right kind of way), “13 yo kid with chlamydia”. Luka tells Sam to get the kid to consent to an HIV test and to give him some condoms. Sam asks if that’s what she has to look forward to. Luka’s sympathetic. Carter asks if Luka can help Lester because Carter has to meet an incoming rig. Luka agrees and walks away. Carter fills Sam in on the MVA coming in: a father and his little boy. Then he comments about snowplows circling (maybe the ambulance bay?) to prevent the tank guy from hurting them/the hospital. He asks if Alex is coming by, because it’ll be hard for him to get in.

Gillian shows up at the hospital, all ready to party with Luka. Wants to dance and gives him a kiss. Sam sees it and that's why she's mad.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Luka knows Sam saw them kiss, and has an Oh, @#%$ moment. Then one of the MVA victims (plus, docs and paramedics) enter. The MVA victim is the father. He speaks Spanish and is asking for his son, who is right behind them. Once they get past, Luka and Sam are alone, with Sam trying to “process” what she just saw. Sam asks, “Who was that?” but before Luka can answer, the second MVA victim (plus crew) enter. This time it’s the little boy: he’s bleeding from a head lac; he was pinned behind the passenger seat and is in respiratory distress. Pratt’s with him, and introduces himself to the kid in Spanish. Once they get past, Luka and Sam are alone again. Luka says, “She’s – Gillian”. Before they can go any further, Pratt comes out and asks if they’re going to help. And they do. Cut to Carter, Abby, Chuny, a paramedic and the father. The father’s got fractures all over the place. Abby asks what happened, and the paramedic tells her they got crushed against a bridge abutment BY. THE. TANK. Chuny makes a crack at Abby, telling her, “Your boyfriend better learn to drive”, but Abby doesn’t think it’s funny. The father keeps screaming for his son. Carter asks Neela what they should do, and before Neela can finish, Abby gives out a slew of orders. Carter tells her to calm down because they should be good with the “2 large bore peripheral lines”. But she can’t calm down. Chuny tells them that the patient wants them to find his wife. Carter tells Neela to do it, and to also check if Luka needs help. When she leaves, she tells Frank to locate the wife. Insert stupid, racist comment here. Neela tells him to just find the wife.
Pratt, Luka, Sam, and the little boy. Pratt’s trying to give him some lidocaine, but the kid’s squirming away. Luka tells him to just do it, but Pratt says he can’t and he’s not going to do anything to him until he can get the lido in. Luka notices the kid’s BP is falling and tells Sam to get Chuny to calm the kid. Chuny’s busy, and Sam says she needs the portable oxygen. Luka tells her the kid’s “on a wall line”. She impatiently grabs the oxygen tank and props the door open so the kid can see his father. He calms down, and Pratt injects him.
Pages later, Pratt and Neela are wheeling Frank down the hall.
Cut to Weaver and the detective. She’s chastising him, saying that he told them they have nothing to worry about, and now he’s telling them they should evacuate. He tells her it’s just a precaution, and she should consider closing. Morris offers to leave if he’s endangering their lives. Kerry says, “Good, why don’t you go stand in the middle of Lakeshore Drive and play Tiananmen Square?” Weaver goes to Triage and tells everyone about the crazy tank driver. She also says that they should be OK, but just in case, she urges them to go to another hospital for treatment. A few people get up and leave. She turns to the detective and tells him to do his job.
Cut to Luka and Sam, having a discussion while walking in the hallway of the ER. He explains that Gillian has a boyfriend. She retorts, “That’s nice”. From rbeezer:

Luka to Sam: you said you didn't want to be exclusive.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
She says, “I said that 4 days ago”. From rbeezer:

he tells her he forgot she was coming.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Sam: I really don’t care Luka. It’s fine. Luka: It’s fine? From rbeezer:
Quote:
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Sam to Luka: You think I care how many little french girls you're screwing? You already nailed every nurse in the ER.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Sam walks into another trauma room. There’s a note that says: “Kovac stands for a moment, screwed”. Luka’s 13 yo sees him and leads him over to 4 girls. The boy called them on his cell phone. Luka introduces himself to the girls and tells them they all need to get checked. One of the girls says that they have to get checked because the 13 yo boy gave them chlamydia. Luka tells her that he’ll give them an exam and a urine test. The girl turns to the other 3 and tells them that it’ll be easy. No shots – just a couple of pills and it’s done. Luka’s stunned by how casually they’re treating this. Luka tells them that although they’re experimenting, having sex at their age and with people they don’t have any feelings for is something they may regret later. They’re staring at him like he’s speaking Croatian.
Cut to Sam, taking care of the 42 yo man. She’s trying to shake off her anger. While changing his dressing, the patient groans and his eyes open.

Frank has a heart attack. And Neela and Pratt help Kayson work on Frank.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Pages later, Kayson’s working on Frank. He’s putting a catheter in Frank’s groin, using fluoroscopy images to find the occlusion. Frank asks for his wife, Connie. Pratt tells him where he is. Frank asks what they’re doing, and Pratt tells him that if they can open the blockage in his artery, he won’t have to have bypass surgery. Pratt asks Kayson a question, but he tells Pratt to just look at the pretty pictures and leave the rest to him. An alarm sounds. Frank’s throwing off PVCs.
A Chicago Police HBT (hostage, barricade, and terrorist) team are in the ER.
From rbeezer:
Quote:
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
We meet Frank's wife, Connie. We also meet Frank's daughter, Janie. Who has Down's syndrome.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Connie and Janie ask Carter where they can find her husband. Carter asks for his name, and they tell him it’s Francis Martin. Janie says her Daddy answers the phone; he’s in charge. Carter finally realizes they’re asking for Frank and tells them that Frank had a heart attack and that he’s getting angioplasty. Neela offers to show them to the waiting area.
Cut to the 42 yo man. His eyes are open and he groans when Chen asks him a question. Sam and the daughter are there as well. Chen asks if he can hear her. His eyelids flutter, but his daughter says that happens all the time and it doesn’t mean anything. Chen asks him to blink twice if he can hear her, but the blinking seems random. Sam tells Chen that he was “satting well before, he was alert”, and she thinks she had a connection with him. She says he wants his suffering to end. Carter enters and asks if they need his help. Chen says they don’t, but Sam says she asked him to come. Chen states that this is her patient, but Sam felt that she should call someone more objective. An alarm sounds; his pressure’s down, and Carter can’t find a pulse. Chen starts CPR against Sam’s pleas. She reluctantly helps.
Back to Frank, who’s a little out of it. He’s talking to Pratt and holding his hand; he’s frightened. Frank tells Pratt about his unit (in Vietnam, I assume) – half of them were black and just as cocky as Pratt. He says Pratt is what those guys might’ve been, and Pratt’s parent must be proud of him. An alarm sounds; Frank’s perfed and bleeding into his pericardium.
In the next room, their CPR efforts fail to revive the patient. Chen finally agrees to stop, but the daughter doesn’t want them to. Chen looks at the monitor and Sam says v-tach. Chen decides to shock him with the paddles. Sam says they’re torturing him. Chen shocks him again (Carter tells her that should be the last time) and gets a pulse. Carter explains to the daughter that they got him back, and the daughter tells them not to stop. Carter tells her her father’s heart is beating now.
Frank again. Neela enters the room, tells them Frank’s family is there, and asks about Frank’s condition. Pratt tells her that Frank’s artery was so calcified that the stent cracked it. His heart is surrounded by pressurised blood and it need to be drained. Neela steps up to help, but Kayson tells her to stop. Looking at Pratt, Kayson tells him that this isn’t the ER and things are more controlled in the cath lab. Pratt tries to convince him otherwise. Frank’s heading south, and Pratt offers to do something that Kayson knows is the right thing to do, but is reluctant to admit it and accept Pratt’s help. He finally accepts the help, and Frank’s better. Kayson tells Pratt that “one lucky needle doesn’t make you a real doctor, Pratt”. Pratt knows he’s not lucky – he’s good.
Cut to Abby, Morris and other hospital workers who are gathered in the surgical conference room. They’re looking at the TV, which is showing helicopter footage of the approaching tank.
Act IV: The hospital barricade worked: the tank’s stopped and the crazy driver’s being wheeled in. He has 3 GSWs. He tells Abby that he said he was coming back. Abby’s trying to get a pulse but he’s handcuffed to the gurney. The cop won’t take it off. The crazy driver’s now unconscious and unresponsive. Abby gives out a few orders, and makes Morris (who is, once again, frozen to the spot) help her. Inside the trauma room, Carter and Chuny help them. Morris offers to intubate, but Carter does it instead. Morris tries to help by offering to give crichoid pressure.
Sam tells Luka that one of the chlamydia girls is being admitted because she has a “huge tubo-ovarious abscess”. They’ll try treating it with antibiotics and hopefully she won’t need surgery. The girl’s crying and scared, and her parents are with her. There’s an awkward pause, and then Luka asks Sam if she’d like to go out for coffee. She says no.
Cut to Neela and Frank’s family. Connie tells Neela that this was her worst nightmare. When Frank was a cop, she’d be afraid that she’d get a call to go to the hospital. Since he retired, she stopped worrying. But she says you can’t ever stop worrying. She says Frank took the desk job to save more money for Janie, who is all he thinks about. Connie thinks Frank talks about Janie on the job. Neela lies and says he does. Connie says that he loves working in the ER and he has lots of stories to tell when he gets home. Neela’s nice and says that Frank makes working there more interesting. Connie says she knows about Neela because Frank says Neela’s bright and is doing well. Neela’s surprised. Connie says that Frank’s always been a people person. (?!?)
Sam, the 42 yo patient, and his daughter. He’ll be taken up to the ICU, and his daughter notices that his eyes aren’t open. Sam tells her that he might’ve suffered more brain damage and it might be harder for her to take care of him once he’s allowed to leave the hospital. Sam offers to help find a long-term care facility. The daughter asks if Sam thinks people get what they deserve. Sam doesn’t believe that, and the daughter tells an icky tale. Short story: her father used to molest her. Sam offers to find someone for her to talk to, but the daughter says she doesn’t need to talk to anyone.

Gillian and Luka walk out into the cold night. Through the arch, police guide snowplows away. Gillian says We could go to the Beat Kitchen, it's very hip. Luka says Dancing? Gillian says You want to just go home? We could dance there. She kisses him, then--she can tell something is wrong. She says You don't want to dance. Luka says Gillian......She searches his face. She asks him Are you in love with her? The nurse. Luka doesn't say a word. That's enough for Gillian. She says You know, I'm jealous. I don't have a right to be but ---I'm going back to Africa in May. I'll call. Luka says We can have coffee.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Sam and Chen talk to the daughter of the 42 yo patient. Chen says she knows what her father did to her. She denies it and keeps asking when she can take him home.
Frank’s in recovery and Pratt tells him what happened. He also tells him to stop eating junk. “Today’s the first day of the rest of your life.”
