^^ I know but there are theories that they landed in 1590 and the door opened with a maid in the rooms?
I mean book 2 they are IN 1590, so I can't see them not doing that, plus I think they just wanted to give us a bit of a 'cliffhanger', especially for those who haven't read the books!
Yes likely the focus is more on Diana and Matthew as well as meeting the people Matthew knew in 1590 etc, There is also Matthew's father and Ysabeau's love, Phillipe who we're supposed to see as well as a viking like right hand to Matthew, named Gallowglass.
So with new characters expected, I don't know if they're going to jump from 1590 to present time and back etc.
