Boromir wanted to go home with the others because he had to fix a wall. Denethor however suggested that everyone starts to collect wood. They went to chop the trees and gather extra wood. A decision was made to put up the Christmas tree in Bilbo's living room. He protested that there was not enough room for them to put up the tree. So, Gandalf decided they would use a different tree.
