Hellcats is a coming-of-age story about Marti Perkins, a young, pre-law student at Lancer University in Memphis, Tennessee. Marti Perkins' plan was to get through Lancer University on her scholarship, go to law school, and leave Memphis and her hard-drinking mother behind to start a new life as an attorney. Instead, Marti's scholarship gets cancelled and her mother "forgets" to tell her. Out of options, Marti finds herself fighting for a spot on the Hellcats -- Lancer's legendary cheer squad -- and for the scholarship that comes with it. The squad needs a new member when the beautiful Alice Verdura is injured, and Marti's fierce style, soulful moves and gymnastic elegance win her a place on the team, despite an ugly encounter with Savannah Monroe, a petite and peppy Texan who ends up being Marti's new roommate. Marti instantly hits it off with her new squad partner, the charming and extremely athletic Lewis Flynn, and their budding friendship causes alarm bells to go off for Lewis' ex, Alice, as well as Marti's long-time friend, Dan Patch. Overseeing all the practices and personal drama is former Hellcats star and current coach Vanessa Lodge, whose job is on the line unless the squad wins the upcoming nationals. Just like Marti, Vanessa's future is riding on the Hellcats ascending to the very top of the fiercely competitive world of college cheerleading.
Hellcats is from Bonanza Productions Inc. in association with Tom Welling Productions, Warner Bros. Television and CBS Television Studios with executive producers Kevin Murphy ("Desperate Housewives"), Tom Welling ("Smallville") and Allan Arkush ("Heroes," "Crossing Jordan"). The pilot was directed by Allan Arkush.

• Alice gets injured in the pilot episode. She will be sidelined for a while due to a wrist injury.
• Dan and Savannah will start dating, which causes Marti to have conflicted feelings about her friendship with Dan.
• Jeff Hephner will play the Lancer's football coach Red Raymond. He banters on-and-off with his former romance Vanessa. He makes a pass on Alice while tending to her injury.
• Aly will sing in the fourth episode on karaoke night at her mother's bar.
• Elena Esovolova portrays Patty 'The Wedge' Wedgerman, a lesbian and plus-sized cheerleader.
• According to Kevin Murphy, Exe Producer, "Positive outcomes only" is the tagline for Ashley Tisdale's character. She will be nothing like Sharpay.
• Gale Harold will appear on Hellcats as Marti's law professor.
• Ryan Kennedy will play Jake Harrow, a charming but dangerous football player who was once friends with Lewis, but now holds a grudge against him.
