Why not do a "Red Squad" series? It's exactly what Trek needs right now, you could have a young group of cadets, the best and the brightest, an elite crowd at Starfleet which might hook the younger viewers. It's high school/college meets Star Trek and that's what networks want now, young viewers.

As mentioned in the episode, "Red Squad" go on missions so you wouldn't be earth bound and the fact that it's set in school could easily make for new cast/exiting cast members.

I think it could be an interesting chapter in Trek history.
