Niche has nothing to do with overall sales or success, the style of gameplay of Baldur's Gate is niche, it's not common, it's not something you see on many AAA titles. Maybe that's why it's so popular. Maybe because people like customizing penises? I'm not putting down the game at all or knocking if people are having fun with it.
