Both Damon Wayans Jr. and Nasim Pedrad play big roles in New Girl (Coach and Aly respectively) but play memorable characters in Brooklyn 99 too, Wayans as Stevie Schillens, Jake’s (Andy Samberg) first partner, and Pedrad as Jake’s half-sister Kate. Creating a shared universe created obvious problems for these characters, especially as Coach ended up moving to New York and was even featured briefly at the end of the New Girl crossover episode in New York. While these two characters definitely cause a plot hole, New Girl has a bizarre cameo that causes even more issues for the shared universe with Brooklyn 99.
