Because Sony only has the rights to Spider-Man and they know they painted themselves into a corner doing that. They could've bought the rights to all of Marvel's titles for only $25 million, but they thought no one cared about any Marvel characters other than Spider-Man, so now they have no way of competing with the MCU. But they still try, so they're using all of the Spider-Man related characters they have in an attempt to build their own cinematic universe using Spider-Man villains and supporting characters. Dumbest strategy I've ever seen. They should just bite the bullet and relinquish control of Spider-Man to Marvel Studios. They had their chance back in 1998 and they blew it.
