Actually usagi gets called bunny most of the time in the old anime. At least in the german dub the other girls always use her nickname for her. Possibly in the english version they always call her usagi.
Edit, I looked it up, Usagi is the japanese word for bunny. So i guess in the german dumb they went with bunny as her name most of the time, at least when called by her friends, so that kids would understand the meaning of the name (since most kids know at least a few english words here but definitely not japanese words).
