Unforgettable Movie Character Names!
Its hard to think of Fight Club without thinking of the name Tyler Durden, just as its hard to think of Usual Suspects without thinking Keyser Soze and Verbal Kint. What are some of your favorite movie character names and why do you think they stand out? Why are they sometimes more memorable than the movie titles themselves? All theories welcome! Oh, I like this thread idea!
And yes, who could forget Keyser Soze? But then, the movie centers around that name. Let's see...a few of my favorites are Prince Humperdink, from The Princess Bride, along with the unforgetable Innigo Montoya...("Hello. My name is Innigo Montoya. You killed my father. Prepare to die." LOVE that!). And of course, Dirty Harry, his character being named Harry, but that's a great nickname for him. Umm...you know, there are tons, but I have to think about it. I'll be back later. __________________

Sugarpuss O'Shea But I also love the way Lee Leander just rolls right off the tongue!

I think the name Donnie Darko is a bit memorable in tis self, but especially since its the name of the movie.

Others include...
James Bond, Pussy Galore, Austin Powers, Neo, Morpheus, Trinity, Agent Smith, Obi Wan Kenobi, Qai Gon Jinn, Luke Skywalker, Princess Leia, R2D2, C3P0, JarJarBinks, Yoda, Frodo, Legolas, Aragorn, Arwen, Gandalf, Harry Potter, Ron Weasley... These people are household pop culture references now. But if you want to go back to before the last 5 years... Gaston. (Who has ever heard of a Gaston? I didn't before the movie!) Bruce Wayne.(No duh.) Clark Kent. (No duh.) Kikuchiyo. (Toshiro Mifune in Seven Samurai. He was just crazy.) Calamity Jane. (nice musical, catchy name...) Bugsy Malone. Ah Choo. ( Robin Hood, Men in Tights!) Shrek. (because he's Shrek.) I'll come back. __________________

I don't know how I can beat any of those, but the two that immediately came to my mind were Lola (from Run Lola Run/Lola Rennt), Ferris Bueller(from Ferris Bueller's Day Off) and Lloyd Dobler (from Say Anything)
Lola and Ferris are title names and Lloyd Dobler is stuck in my head because of those quotes in the movie and the boombox scene. __________________

Yep, I thought about movies with the name of the character in the title, like "Shrek." Definitely unforgettable.
And the classics are also good, like Scarlet O'Hara, or Dorothy, from The Wizard of Oz. Who hasn't heard of them, even if you haven't seen the film? Or Darth Vadar (although I really don't know the names of the characters from the last two Star Wars films, since I don't consider them part of the great legacy - didn't watch them). But I get your point. __________________

Excellent suggestions. I was definetly thinking of the characters from The Princess Bride, but we failed to mention Princess Buttercup, which is actually what came to mind when I read the thread title.

In Taxi Driver, De Niro's Travis Bickle always fascinated me, and at one point he gives a false name, Henry Krinkle, which is even better.
Also I like Jack Nicholson's Garrett Breedlove in Terms of Endearment. And talking Shirley MacLaine, all the names in Steel Magnolias are pretty unique. Truvy Jones, Ouiser Bordreaux, M'Lynn Eatenton, Annelle Dupuy Desoto, Clairee Belcher, Shelby Eatenton Latcherie and that's just the girls. And who's the guy? Drum Eatenton. Fab. Novalee and Americus Nation from Where the Heart Is
Narcisse, Babette, Baphomet and Peloquin from Nightbreed Harry D'Amour from Lord of Illusions (what can I say, I love the names Clive Barker comes up with) Speaking of Pretty in Pink, Blane McDonnagh. My favorite line from the whole movie is Duckie making fun of Blane's name: "Blane, His name is Blane... oh that's a major appliance that's not a name." __________________
