What is the best movie soundtrack? #2 DISCUSSION (no lists)

I kind of missed this topic.

I recently bought Chicago (better late than never) and it's wonderful

My favorite is still the soundtrack from "City of Angels" but next on my list will be "Lost in Translation" so that could change.

I recently saw Follow The Fleet and thought it had a great soundtrack I prefer musical soundtracks to just incidental songs.

Chicago is a definite winner; all three of the LOTR s-tracks are as well. Also, Peter Pan and Labyrinth get my vote.

To many to list here

Basically, any "classical" scores by the cinema giants like James Horner ("Apollo 13"); Jerry Goldsmith ("First Blood"); Hans Zimmer ("Lion King") and others.

I really like Trevor Rabin and Mark Mancina ("Con Air"; "Deep Blue Sea") of the "new" composers.

Not so fond of John Williams, however. He's a classic, but his scores are all to similar whereas the others listed have a more distinct sound to all of thier work (except maybe Horner who literally does recycle himself in certain movies).

I love James Horner -- it's impossible for me not to like a score he's done.

The soundtracks to Frida and The Royal Tenenbaums are the best I've heard.

Donnie Darko, both score and soundtrack.
The Virgin Suicides score (all written by the band Air, amazing atmospheric music).
Lost in Translation, featuring another track by Air and some other awesome songs.
Run Lola Run, best techno soundtrack ever.

And many many more.
