Hidalgo (2004) #1 - Unbridled. Unbroken. Unbeaten
Hidalgo
Based on the true story of the greatest long-distance horse race ever run, “Hidalgo” is an epic action-adventure and one man’s journey of personal redemption. Held yearly for centuries, the Ocean of Fire — a 3,000 mile survival race across the Arabian Desert — was a challenge restricted to the finest Arabian horses ever bred, the purest and noblest lines, owned by the greatest royal families. In 1890, a wealthy Sheik invited an American and his horse to enter the race for the first time. Frank T. Hopkins (Viggo Mortensen) was a cowboy and dispatch rider for the US cavalry who had once been billed as the greatest rider the West had ever known. The Sheik (Omar Sharif) would put this claim to the test, pitting the American cowboy and his mustang, Hidalgo, against the world’s greatest Arabian horses and Bedouin riders—some of whom were determined to prevent the foreigner from finishing the race. For Frank, the Ocean of Fire becomes not only a matter of pride and honor, but a race for his very survival as he and his horse, Hidalgo, attempt the impossible. Release Date: March 5th, 2004 (wide). Viggo + horses = Rawwr! I'll definitely be in the theater to see this one on opening night. I adore Viggo. And another movie with him on a horse? How can I say no to that? I can't.
Thank you for the pix, E_E!! __________________

True. I have absolutely no knowledge on the background/story of this movie (aside from it being about a horse) but I kind of want to be suprised about it when I see it.
IMO Viggo usually picks movies that have integrity or has some interesting message. So I'm not too worried. __________________

Bringing this back on page 1. Anyone watching this movie this weekend? Come on, Viggo fans! I'm not really liking the reviews online but who cares if you're a Viggo fan.

I have to wait a while for it to come out. I'm not sure what the release dates are for the UK.
Did'nt Hidalgo get good reviews? I usually avoid them if I can so that I remain unspoiled. __________________

I'm shallow and just want to see it for Viggo's sex factor...it does look like a good story though.

I'm looking forward to seeing this film It got very positive reviews here in the states and it's nice to see Viggo in a different role now other than Aragorn...not that we got tired of it...but it's just nice to change it up

I watched this movie months ago. I loved it regarless of the whole "based on a true story" debate. It was a good story and everyone involved was credible and right on the money.
Plus, I like a good movie anytime. As some critics called it, it is one of those movie they don't make anymore. I loved Ebert's reviews and I agree especially with this: Quote:
