What meaning do their songs have for you?
This thread is to discuss the meanings of our beloved Evanescence songs.
And I'm not talking about what we think they mean for Amy or Evanescence, but what they mean for us. I'm gonna start with Field of innocence Since not all of you will know this song, here are the lyrics: Quote:
For me the song is about childhood dreams and ideals one used to have when growing up. And then - having grown up, all the dreams are blown away, you can't live up to those ideals and the world is not what it looked like when you were a kid or a teenager. Instead, everything is about being grown up and about responsibility. Everything is so serious. - And you actually mourn those carefree childhood days when you didn't have to worry about bills and earning money and all that stuff. Does that make sense? Just my interpretation of the song, but that may be because I am afraid of growing up (though I'm almost 28, I should have grown up long ago. lol) - But I sometimes get depressed because I feel I can't cope with being a grown up and all the expectations and responsibility being grown up brings with it, I can't cope with the fear of letting people down and not being good enough and stuff like that. Is that normal or should I see a shrink? __________________

I think you have it right, Caradeangel. And I feel the same. I think it also speaks of the restlessness of knowing you can't undo time, though you may want to. How with age, all of the things you took for granted as a child occupy the forefront of your mind, and knowing this, if you could go back, you'd savor what you didn't notice at that age. I think this song has meaning for everyone since almost everyone wants to return to the age of a child now and then.

First of all, Caradeangel, I completely agree with you about Fields. I'm getting to the age where people expect you to grow up and take responsiblity [turned 16 last month], but it's scary to give up my childhood, the dreams I had, the way I viewed the world... The line that especially speaks to me is "I want to go back to believing in everything and knowing nothing at all", because I think that the more you find out about how the world really is, the less you like it, and the thought of being innocent again is insanely tempting.
Another song that means a lot to me is Anywhere: Dear my love, haven't you wanted to be with me And dear my love, haven't you longed to be free I can't keep pretending that I don't even know you And at sweet night, you are my own Take my hand We're leaving here tonight There's no need to tell anyone They'd only hold us down So by the morning's light We'll be half way to anywhere Where love is more than just your name I have dreamt of a place for you and I No one knows who we are there All I want is to give my life only to you I've dreamt so long I cannot dream anymore Let's run away, I'll take you there We're leaving here tonight There's no need to tell anyone They'd only hold us down So by the morning's light We'll be half way to anywhere Where no one needs a reason Forget this life Come with me Don't look back you're safe now Unlock your heart Drop your guard No one's left to stop you Forget this life Come with me Don't look back you're safe now Unlock your heart Drop your guard No one's left to stop you now We're leaving here tonight There's no need to tell anyone They'd only hold us down So by the morning light We'll be half way to anywhere Where love is more than just your name It makes me think of my ex-girlfriend... A lot of our friends didn't support the relationship because of the age difference, which eventually caused us to break up... and really, all I'd want is just to be with her in a place far from here, when no one will care, no on will say anything. __________________

Nice choice, Mely. I absolutely LOVE that song.
Does anybody have an idea who the background singer is? Because he has the most amazing voice. Just love it, love it, love it. It sounds like the same guy that is on other songs, like Farther away and My immortal. __________________

Anywhere There is absolutely most romantic I that heard. I think, this song tells about fallen in love girl, who want to be always with her's sweetheart. She wantes to hide from other with her's sweetheart, she wanted to stop him. Beautiful song.

I think anyone who has ever been in love and had it opposed by people can relate to Anywhere. It's very simple in it's intent which I think makes it that much more powerful. I just love it.

I can relate, I also fall for those who have no interest in me what so ever, eh, makes us more interesting people.
Anywhere, the anthem for those in unloved by the ones they love. Sounds like a Jerry Springer topic. BTW, I love you signature. :rose: Mandy __________________

"Everybody's Fool"
perfect by nature icons of self indulgence just what we all need more lies about a world that never was and never will be have you no shame don't you see me you know you've got everybody fooled look here she comes now bow down and stare in wonder oh how we love you no flaws when you're pretending but now i know she never was and never will be you don't know how you've betrayed me and somehow you've got everybody fooled without the mask where will you hide can't find yourself lost in your lie i know the truth now i know who you are and i don't love you anymore it never was and never will be you're not real and you can't save me somehow now you're everybody's fool This song probably is most important to me that is on Fallen. It helped me realize that this one particular person I was hanging out with really wasn't a true friend. __________________

That's the thing about Everybody's Fool, you can see it so many ways. I personally see it as an anthem for an old relationship where someone was unfaithful, bt that's just me. You can also see it in the way Amy presents it in the video, as it relates to fame. I don't know, it's a grab bag.

I don't remember where I read it, but I know I did read somewhere that Amy said in an interview she's happy that her fans put their own interpretation into her songs and don't try to find whatever the song meant to Amy or anyone else in the band.
So obviously, it was their intention that people see different things in their songs __________________

I really like Fields of Innocence as I feel like I have a strong connection to it. I believe the song is about the the realisations that the world brings and how as much as we want kids to grow up, we want to protect their purity and innocence in believing the world is good.
I dont want to grow up. I'm 18 and in my final few months of school and it scares me. I want to go back to when I was 13, I was ignorant about the world and my Nana was still alive. I want to be a child again and I guess that is where my distaste for my body comes from- the fact that I am growing up. __________________

One song that really hit home with me is Missing. Please, please forgive me But I won't be home again Maybe someday you'll look up And barely concious you'll say to no one Isn’t something missing You won't cry for my absence, I know You forgot me long ago Am I that unimportant? Am I so insignificant? Isn’t someone missing me? Even though I’m the sacrifice You won't try for me, not now Though I’d die to know you loved me I’m all alone Isn’t someone missing me? Please, please forgive me But I won’t be home again I know what you do to yourself I breathe deep and cry out Isn’t something missing Even though I’m the sacrifice You won't try for me, not now Though I’d die to know you loved me I’m all alone Isn’t someone missing me? And if I bleed, I'll bleed knowing you don't care And if I sleep just to dream of you, I'll wake without you there... Isn't something missing? When I first heard this song (waaaaaay back when I first got into Ev) you could say I was vulnerable. This song totally described the way I felt: Alone; feeling like if I were to just disappear no one notice and/or care... Anyway, to me the song's about a girl (I'll just say it's a girl to make it easier) that loves another person a lot, but the feelings aren't requited. She would do anything for that other person, including giving something up of her own (her life?) for him. But she knows that even if she did, it would all be in vain because that person doesn't care for her. - - Nellie __________________
