The truth about the 2002 Academy Awards:
"I went over to do some work on the DVD. To do some interviews for it, and some commentary... I was doing that and some other business things not associated with 'Lord of the Rings.' I don't know if that's allowed, but I was... also I was over for the Screen Actors' Guild Awards."

"The Oscars, to be very technical about it, had been moved to a new location this year that was a smaller location and had less seats. So basically the only people who were allowed were people who were nominated - Ian McKellen, Pete Jackson, etc. And Pete took Elijah as a guest, which I thought was great... The rest of us knew we weren't going."

Screen Actors' Guild Awards:
"Pete wasn't there but he came on to someone's cell phone and so we all spoke to him from the table. And I was just pretending that I was trying to kiss Nicole Kidman and he was like, 'Well, you should.' And I said, 'Well, I can't reach!' It was a fun night. Really good."

On the Empire Awards:
"**** Empire! You had to give Best Debut to Mr. Cheekbones, didn't ya?!" His co-star Orlando Bloom won that one!

On his "Lord of the Rings" co-stars:
