King Arthur (2004) #1
King Arthur
As the Roman Empire crumbles (circa 450 A.D.), the British Isles are thrown into a loose anarchy as errant knights are entrenched in years of territorial battle. Then, one king emerges to unite them, Arthur, with his concept of a Round Table of united knights. Starring: Clive Owen, Keira Knightley, Ioan Gruffudd, Stephen Dillane Releas Date: July 7th I can't wait for this one. I've been waiting for this movie since Keira signed up for Guinevere. __________________

I'm more than likely going to see this movie 2-3 times.
Instead of the traditional King Arthur, old being over run by a young Lancelot, it loks to be the forming of what we've all invisioned when we hear the names. And, Keira looks damn good as usual. __________________

And to think, I was just going to start a thread for this flick... Anywho, I'm pretty excited about it -- looks really neat. I'm not a fanatic for Keira, but she'll prolly do good in it. My favorite part in the trailer is when Merlin's name pops up, and he's standing on the cliffside yelling...I don't know what it is about that part, but I get chills. I think this one's a keeper. And plus...Horatio Hornblower guy is in it. Can we say hot British boy? I know I can.

I've been eagerly anticipating the release of this film. I'm very interested in the whole King Arthur and Guinevere legend and with a great cast this looks like being a fantastic film.

This one seems like a really good telling of the (possibly) real life origins of King Arthur and his knights.
We've got Antone Fuqua ("Training Day"; "Tears of the Sun") directing, Clive Owen, Kiera Knightly and a cast of other good actors and it's produced by Jerry Bruckheimer. Er.. Okay, forget the Bruckheimer part ... But it should be a fun movie anyway, regardless I like how they are focusing on what probably REALLY happened in that at the time this takes place, the British Isles were under Roman rule -- which means that the WOAS (Native Brits; Guenivere's people) didn't like Arthur much as an occupying force.army... However, when the empire crumbled and Arthur is ordered to pull out, another enemy, the Saxons pop up to fill the void and take over when the Romans leave... But Arthur decides to stay on by himself (with his knights) and protect the people regardless of what Rome -- or what is left of it -- wants him to do. I think this aspect of King Arthur has never been addressed before and this is what I think will carry the movie in terms of its emotional core: Arthur has to come to terms with fighting for a people who don't like him and those same people have to learn to accept him as a leader since he (ultimately) unites the British Isles to repel the Saxon invaders (at least as far as the legend goes). David Franzoni ("Gladiator") wrote this film so expect a lot of themes involving honor, what it means to be a leader, questioning ones beliefs, doing what one has to in the face of overwhelming odds, etc. |
