Star Wars - What if lightsabers were common?

Interesting... I never knew that before.

What would it be like? Probably an ineffective weapon without the Force, as you couldn't anticipate and deflect blaster bolts. You can imagine Jedi taking on a whole swarm of lightsaber wielding stormtroopers.

hmm ... I think that you're right about lightsabers being enhanced with the use of the Force.

The original McQuarrie Stormtroopers actually had a lightsaber and a light shield, capable of deflecting a saber.

still, they would be effective weapons, capable of cutting through anything. In the hands of an effective person, still deadly.

Which I guess means, even if we give the storm troopers the lightsaber, they'd still miss everything at point blank range. [img]smilies/smile.gif[/img]

I wouldn't want everyone to have shields that can stop blasters/lightsabers, or lightsabers... but it would be neat if there was an elite stormtrooper force that fought that way.

But the true question is, would they be able to hit anything?

In the comix, the emperor had a special Dark Trooper guard that were force sensative, and while they didn't use lightsabers, they used a force pike, not a blaster.

Force Pikes are pikes that have forcefield generated tips, so they deflect energy. Very efficient against a weapon like a lightsaber.

I think mine would be blue or red.

Lightsabres being common like you said, AlexEvans, definetly wouldn't be effective without the Force. Thanks for the link, I need to hang out around there more.

Mine would also be red or blue.

And I have this discussion of lightsabers being common almost every day with my neighbour at my student dorm. And they even go to how it would be if lightsabers existed in our daily lives.These discussions, about all kinds of SW things, drive everyone around us crazy.
But they keep life interesting

Without the Force, as been said before, it wouldn't be any good.
So hopefully the Force would be strong in all of us

I think I would love a green lightsaber, the same as kick a## Luke

Although, I think Chris would say that I should have a Red Sabre, like the rest of the Dark Siders.
