See, I went to one a while back, it was in the 90's and we met the guy who played in the "Spawn" film, forget his name, and I met Kenny Baker, Anthony Daniels, Peter Mayhew, but didn't get their autographs or photographs taken...b/c I was like, well I'll meet them again at another convention and the line was huge, whatever! Big mistake. Since then, I think they've cancelled that convention, and it was the only one to ever come to the ATL.

Producer Rick McCallum told SCI FI Wire at the Saturn Awards on Tuesday that George Lucas is starting the basic concept of the new live-action "Star Wars" TV series. "We're interviewing writers. We're seeing a lot of people. But I'd say it's not going to be happening for another at least 18 months," said McCallum.

He repeated that the show will take place in the timeframe between "Episode III" and "IV" with all new characters. "That missing 20-year period when Luke is growing up... Think bounty hunter. That's all I can tell you. There's nobody else that you'll know [in it]."

McCallum added that they are moving forward with 3D versions of the "Star Wars" movies. "It's just a question of how many theaters will be out there. Hopefully, by the end of this year there will be about 1,500 [3-D] theaters. We need about two or three thousand before it makes it, you know, viable for any of us to go out in 3-D." He expects that will happen sometime in 2007.

Lucasfilm is also working on a new animated series on the Clone Wars, which "won't be ready for another year."

The guys over at IESB.net have posted online a video clip interview of Rick McCallum from a recent awards show appearance where he discusses the future of Star Wars. In the conversation he hints at several future Star Wars projects.

Celebration 4 - Rick digged Indy, wouldn't mind going back. Mentions another "celebration" possible around a big anniversary next year.

New Star Wars Animated Television Series
Animated series will be released first, before live action show.
Not the same style as past Clone Wars Cartoon

Live Action Television Series
Shooting in Australia
To be more dramatic, intense, darker, heavy duty
May not go to television, mentions iPod, future "home" unknown
Writing to start end of this year
Starts shooting end of next year

Star Wars 3D
Rick mentions he entire Star Wars saga re-released on the big screen in 3D.

OK George, we know you hate big film corporations and such...but the TV series not even on TV? WTF? Ipod? Have you ever tried watching something on a screen that's an inch and a half wide? Get over it GL, contract someone like NBC, they are falling behind competition, and probably will be throwing themselves at your feet to be able to show this product on TV.
